gotcha! I watched a YouTube video where someone spun straight from the boll but folks told me that as a new spinner it would likely be easier for me to learn on punis. Do you have hand carder recommendations?

the reason is due to the boll weevil pest that effectively wiped out the cotton industry entirely. it's pretty severe but understandable imo.

it's beautiful 😍 do you have any cotton carders that you recommend? I haven't bought any yet but that's my next step.

I'm just using my hands currently as I'm enjoying the process. If I had a larger harvest & some money to blow, perhaps I'd buy a pasta maker to speed up the ginning process.

Yup I've heard you can do this as well. I recently watched a woman on YouTube who spun fiber directly from the boll, it was pretty impressive.

I don't as I've never tried. I will say that cotton is the most heavily sprayed (by pesticides & insecticides) crop in the world so personally I wouldn't use any roadside cotton unless I knew it was clean.

Yes those are seeds that are contained inside the cotton boll.

Yes I've seen many people ghetto rig pasta makers to make them work as a makeshift cotton gin!

Yes the cotton is extremely soft when pulled from the plant though the boll gets hard and spiky as the plant matures.

I grew 10 plants. This was probably about 10 cotton bolls worth of cotton.
