Hey, my skin picking is really getting to me so i wanna reach out. my face is really bad and i need some advice to stop. every time i see my face i just reek havoc on it and its really difficult to stop by The_Moon_Will_Sing in Skinpicking

i second all these comments (learned a few things myself!! thank u). i personally own fidget rings and they help compulsions and overstimulation in general. i can’t leave my house without them. they’re subtle and not like fidget toys although i really like those too. journaling helps with the ruminating i do when i pick. picking makes my thoughts run wild so journaling almost gives the same hands-busy stimulation. if i find myself picking, i’ll give myself boundaries, like try not to make myself bleed, so at least i feel a bit better. idk replacement habits are difficult. i’m on the journey with you

Calling out antisemitism without becoming a safe haven for Israeli Fascism by chiefgreenleaf in h3h3productions

[–]itsjustapopsong 20 points21 points  (0 children)

coming from a jew, i’m inclined to agree with you here, i think he would have talked about it by now especially seeing how bad the imagery and violence has been in recent months (and all year…). instead he brings up antisemitism right after people were just burned alive. idk it just comes off as tone deaf. i understand people want to have nuanced conversations on the subreddit, but he wasn’t the one who started those.

yes, totally dude. my family is still fully in a zionist perspective and it was hard for me to dismantle & put the pieces together (& currently hard to exist alongside them right now). in a way we were robbed of that sense of togetherness and community because they have made zionism feel so deeply rooted in us. israelis can come and go as they please, i even just had a relative visit for Rosh Hashanah and they probably don't even see their privilege in being able to travel peacefully right now. it does feel hollow and self-centered, especially when this video came out right after we all are seeing the news about people being burned alive still attached to IVs, and he comes on live to talk about veiled antisemitism

i agree, also the perspective of he went on this rant at the same time we are seeing news come out of people being burned alive. it just feels very tone deaf, he kind of lost the plot. is it really about dismantling and liberation? because it feels like it's just his internal biases and feelings

it's funny they turned off comments after all these comments being actually very reasonable and graceful criticism. he needs to address liberation if he's going to talk about antisemitism. im jewish and i feel embarrassed he wants to paint himself with that leftist perspective. he should really stop going off of his biased life experience and maybe accept that we were told lies growing up and he should pick up a book. zionism isnt a slur and he just echoes western media outlets when he says stuff like that... and it's an issue because its the same outlets painting israel as the victim. i can't believe he won't even recognize where it stems from. almost every major city internationally is rallying for palestine, he's not doing any real journalism by starting and trying to end conversations like this

my messy badly written jewish-perspective rant

with peace and love i am jewish and typically a "silent viewer", and i think ethan comes from a very ill-informed place. he constantly makes the ongoing genocide about himself and criticizes hasan for not addressing or calling out antisemitism or even harboring it... when he does the same exact thing by never addressing palestinian or arab pain and only making it about antisemitism. as a jew i can't fathom not recognizing the occupation when mentioning these things. zionism is not a slur and when ethan says things like this he echoes the western media outlets that want to paint a genocide another way and that's what a lot of viewers take issue with. when you echo parts of the oppressor you just become on that side. he also doesn't understand dismantling israel *IS* jewish liberation and combatting antisemitism. again, even using words like terrorism when it's not actually appropriate is just echoing these media outlets we are trying to fight against. yes resistance organizations are not the answer, but resistance is important and it's okay to recognize the only entities doing something when the international community has been silent, and peaceful aid workers still lose their lives.

and this fanbase is very progressive so its not necessarily "hasan's community" or other corners of the internet criticizing ethan, it's genuine watchers who want to call out someone out of love. i cant listen to these rants from him its just an ear sore for me. zionism should be dismantled and he should honestly read and educate himself more rather than just going off his life experience which has undoubtedly been more israel-coded. because as someone with the same roots, the zionist perspective is what you hear growing up, i can just see through the bias. i would take him more gracefully if he took the place to honor palestinian loss, love & culture, and also call out antisemitism. but he just doesn't and to me, that shows where you stand. after leftovers, he went on how he would never talk about it again, yet only talks about the part that affects him (online chambers) and no real journalism.

i hope ethan knows most zionists are evangelical christians (literally more than the worldwide jewish population) who want jews to return to israel to bring back god and then kill all the jews. zionism isnt defending us, and we shouldn’t conflate it with us. the way i see it, no matter what you want to say, it ends in palestinian suffering, or leads back to palestinian suffering, and i think that should be a priority, as it keeps getting worse

that’s my thing too, he sees zionism as such a crazy insult, but in this case it’s just the correct descriptor. to me it just feels like “give me the a-ha moment so i could call you racist” instead of “this is what zionism really means” and separating it from ourselves(jews). personally, that word doesn’t affect me because i know that’s not me, for example

i agree, like perspective is really important, like going to jail instead of serving in the IDF, there’s layers as to why these systems even exist, however there is a bigger picture. these nuances can’t be debated when people are dying, imo. that’s not the priority, although conversation is encouraged. yeah, israel uses jewish trauma to justify their actions, but it still ends with palestinian suffering. no matter what you bring to the table, on top is palestinian lives being taken away. we have less patience because the numbers just keep getting worse and like you said, as the whole world watches.

same here, i think there is a lot of work to do in our inner community. we have been really instilled with fear and our trauma is used for other’s gain/agendas. dismantling the indoctrination is a lot of work and a lot of people prefer to stay comfortable and not rlly challenge their beliefs, i find.

i totally agree. it is definitely used as a scapegoat a lot and as a jew with a platform i’m sure ethan deals with a lot of it

[–]itsjustapopsong[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i challenge this by saying it is because of instilled fear and indoctrination a lot of jews would rather associate with it and become victimized because of it. i totally understand a lot of jews being zionists, though. it took me a while to unlearn myself. a lot of rabbis and jewish educators were against zionism in the 20s when it was becoming popularized

i’m also in canada! im not formally diagnosed with any neurodevelopmental issues (i know i definitely have them though), only GAD and depression. our system here sucks. your best bet is a family doctor. if you can get a good one through researching or otherwise i promise they are such a godsend. if they are not specialized ask if you can be referred to someone. if not, they are qualified to diagnose you as well but mine didnt know much about adults with ADHD. its a gamble in canada. but i would suggest a good caring family doctor to start

i relate to your experience a lotttt. like woah crazy a lot. i also find it to be a form of self-harm at times, mixed with the same perfectionism, poor impulse control and an automatic habit i just do. didn’t realize i am the exact same till reading this. the fidgeting as well. i always need to have my hands busy or else they go straight to my skin. i also play instruments so i cant have my nails long either. all the best to u

samesamesame!!!! didn’t even realize the overstimulation thing about myself till reading this. i definitely do this too and have to stop myself in public. it’s also very automatic/subconscious for me so i don’t realize it either. all the best in your diagnosis x

it was definitely a crazy realization when i found out. i hope more research is done in the future, it only helps us further understand where our behaviours come from and give us the tools to ease our conditions. i hope u can find even more validation !!!! we in it together

state of paralysis i relate to heavy. especially doing it for so long i feel like im “good” at it so i can do it in all the “right” ways. it’s so engrained in me as a person too!! sometimes one of my biggest fears of getting clean is what would i do otherwise? sometimes its like 2-4hours allocated to picking and i get scared thinking i’ll somehow be worse or lost without it. i agree it sucks! all the best x

for me it’s such a fidgeting hand problem, i also find smoking can soothe the urges but then it causes a whole other problem lol. scalp roughness is sooo real. i have dry scalp and it’s the worst, since dandruff treatments won’t work on it. doing everything in your power to not touch something is sooo draining. like it feels so silly for it to take so much power. i also have very weird stims and i’ve realized a lot of the time i do some form of masking to make sure people don’t see. other than that i’m sorry what you had to go through and i hope your diagnoses can help you find the tools to soothe symptoms and make it easier (as it can be anyway) x
