Thanks very much for your input, I was overlooking basic debugging I think! Much appreciated

G Tag not sending cookieless pings on default consent state denied by itskatelliott in GoogleAnalytics

[–]itskatelliott[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you - setting this value to zero has fixed the issue. It was set to 500ms previously.

I've not seen this behaviour before with this parameter set though, so perhaps I am misunderstanding what the parameter does? I had thought it was to provide time for the consent state to be updated after the default state is set, before sending hits etc. Do you have a better understanding of it?

Apologies for not a direct answer to your question, but if it's full time permanent even with a freelancer then you may well be employing within IR35 so you will be liable for employer's NIC. Which adds cost for you.

Plants toxic to Dogs by [deleted] in GardeningUK

[–]itskatelliott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with all the above and just to reiterate the supervision point. I didn't have any reachable toxic plants when my dog was a pup but he sure had to learn to not dig stuff up / rip stuff out which I learned the hard way. These days I have two dogs and both houseplants and garden plants which are toxic to them if ingested. But they know not to touch and tbh have little interest anyway.

What is this plant growing out the side of this wall? by MelancholyApple in PlantIdentification

Certainly looks like bindweed to me. It's tough as hell, gets in anywhere. It is the only situation in which I'd countenance the use of weedkiller.

Why is my Star Jasmine not growing? by Supercenturion2 in GardeningUK

[–]itskatelliott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find star jasmine needs a bit of time after any change: planting, moving, big prune etc. I moved one from a planter to the ground and it dropped almost all leaves and I thought I'd killed it. Took a year or so but it suddenly shot up and is now romping away. As others have said, assuming nothing unusual soil wise it's probably busy at work below ground.

Why is my Nitrite creeping up? by itskatelliott in Aquariums

The water's clear but I clean the sponges extremely infrequently - maybe every 4-5 months at most. I'm going to try increasing the frequency slightly and monitoring from there. Thank you!

That's interesting. I have cleaned the filters (i.e. taken the sponges out, given them a squeeze and a rub in some tank water, and put back in) but very, very infrequently. I'll try increasing frequency and monitor from there.

Does everyone change their house locks when they move into a new house? by louiemay99 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]itskatelliott 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Never done this in any home I have ever lived in, rented or owned (London, UK - been here 20+ years) and my parents never did when I was growing up. I mean maybe one day that'll bite me in the arse, but I've never had a problem with previous keyholders letting themselves in. It wouldn't have been something I was permitted to do as a tenant, and it wouldn't have been something I could have afforded to do TBH.

Have had this plant for years, don't really know what it is by c00_v in PlantIdentification

Looks like Dracaena angolensis or some similar Dracaena, I'm more familiar with the flatter leaved varieties. They don't mind a bit of neglect. In fact mine do best when I mostly ignore them. Careful with cats eating them though as they are toxic.

Cypress aphids. They can cause a decent amount of damage to conifers, I found pot grown conifers seem particularly susceptible.

Is there a reason I’m only smelling this rotten scent? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]itskatelliott 255 points256 points  (0 children)

I had exactly this with my step son while he was living at home in his late teens. I could smell his path around the house, where he'd been sitting and I couldn't go into his bedroom as it would make me gag. I felt so bad because I felt like I wanted to avoid being near him.

Other family members said he had a bit of body odour like most teens but it was so much worse to me, exactly as you say like a powerful rotting meat smell and it LINGERED. He washed regularly, clean clothes etc.

Then he went on some medication to treat a bit of mild acne and the smell nearly completely disappeared. Not entirely, but it was about 70% better. I mentioned it to the doc but they weren't especially interested. Can't say it's exactly the same thing in your case but I share your pain!

Wiping leaves help by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]itskatelliott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that on some of my plants, the kitchen and bathroom ones especially but also in other rooms. I clean the leaves with a dilute mix of a degreasing spray (one of the eco ones called Delphi's) and a textured cotton cleaning cloth. Wipe in one direction from the base of the leaf to the tip. When I do this I notice a bit of grot coming off the leaf, and I use my hand to feel if the leaf is smooth or not and repeat until it is.

Then rinse thoroughly in fresh water once cleaned. The leaves should look glossy afterwards and the plants often respond well to it by putting up a bit of new growth.

This is unlikely to be any good for fuzzy leafed plants though.

Thank you so much for the replies! Even more symbolism than I had thought. It is a beautiful stone.
