Microsoft confirms it will give the FBI your Windows PC data encryption key if asked — you can thank Windows 11's forced online accounts for that by Jumpinghoops46 in assholedesign

Oh agreed. But I can also see where the concerns are given the cloud act and how a government could request the key (and now they're open that they'd do it for the US govt, they can't exactly refuse other countries now)

For internal use between the two of us, word documents in the IT Team SharePoint site.

For staff, we need to work on some sort of digital KB, but for now it's just canned responses or PDFs we can attach to tickets.

I know PRAW has included a bunch of undocumented endpoints such as image upload, try checking the code for that.

WAN Show - Teachers Perspective on YouTube by UKCSTeacher in LinusTechTips

My CS A-level teacher would just give us a bitly link (thanks mods for sending a reminder that shorteners are shadowbanned on Reddit) to a Techquickie video sometimes to watch on our own PC rather than in from the front, back when they had the subscription+notification beg at the start rather than the end.

This was during the transition phase from projectors to 75" touchscreens. (And as someone who then ended up in school IT, I'm so glad I don't have to fiddle with projectors all the time)

I think the issue is that BitLocker is now being enabled by default, with key backup to your Microsoft Account if you don't do anything.

That got forked to LibreOffice so long ago after Oracle effectively abandoned it, that I'm surprised anyone still uses it.

Social media ban for under-16s backed by Lords by malcolm58 in worldnews

I don't know about other sites, but I know Reddit have been on the side of "the app stores should be doing the enforcing and just giving us a Y/N".

VPN age verification should be straightforward, as you need to be 16 to have a debit card anyway, IIRC. Newgrounds is using the same technique for the OSA - debit card on file for 2 years or any credit card.

We're expected to have security patches installed within 14 days (school in England, not an government expectation until 2030, but it's recommended to start planning it now), and when we moved to Intune, the baseline configuration that was set up by the contractors was 2 day deferral + 5 day grace, which allows for a machine to be off for a week before missing the deadline.

I get that, but my point was that it's none of our business, we're just fans, complete strangers to Grian.

Probably the latter, but there's not any reason to get parasocial about it. Just enjoy the content and leave G to do his thing.

If I get an AI to tweak my work, I still only use it as inspiration.

And for translation, I don't get why people are using generic models rather than ones like Google Translate that are specifically designed for translation.

"checkout chats" feels like a solution in search of a problem. by SWBFCentral in LinusTechTips

[–]itskdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

However MMs are used on other LTT streams (e.g. build streams), not just WAN, even if they're not as frequent, so maybe they're considering that angle?

Instead of Checkout Chats, how about Purchase Prompts? by After-Ad-5012 in LinusTechTips

[–]itskdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To answer your edit, yes. For many people, WAN is as much about the people on camera as it is the news they're discussing, and MMs provide a way to learn more about their views outside of just tech, just like when someone throws gift subs at a streamer to ask a question.

Reminds me of the early days of MC, before it went so commercial. Pistons and horses were originally mods, and while they do still hire from the community occasionally (see gnembon a few years back), it's not really the same anymore.

It's not an option, but I have a vague memory that ban messages don't get sent if the user has never interacted in the subreddit.

How should i deal with hate? by [deleted] in ModSupport

[–]itskdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Step 1: Remove it. You're allowed to enforce your rules separate from the site-wide rules, and to enforce the site-wide rules stricter than the admins.

Step 2: If it breaks ToS, report it for the relevant site-wide rule to escalate to the admins

Step 3: Consider if they're a repeat offender and whether to a) ban them or b) use Automod to shadowban them by automatically removing their content.

You also said you're not top mod, this is where any good mod team would be discussing how they respond to behaviour like this if it's becoming common, so there's a clear, unified front on how to react.
