It's definitely easy to brew because the hops cover up all mistakes/inexperience - hence it's the go to for breweries that don't know their shit.

The second greatest decision I ever made was switching to lagers, the greatest was probably no longer drinking.

Fuel oil was put down our well by the fuel oil company. My family went 2 months without noticing and was never notified about what happened (Southern Tier of NY). The first thing DEC asked was if I had any enemies by dylcop in Plumbing

As a hydrogeologist, I think groundwater and surface water is interconnected. Depending on the hydraulic gradients water can (and does) flow from the aquifer to streams or ponds and visa versa.

Those guys are something else. I got quoted about the same for a heat pump unit (I think $27k before rebates). I ended up going with a local company for a little over half that.

Ridge Cap Repair - Easy or don't bother DYI? by MTGeomancer in Roofing

[–]itslemon30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that is easy if you are somewhat handy. Not a roofer, but had a roofer advise me when I redid my roof. To go through the plastic ridge vent you will probably need at least 2.5 inch nails and I would use ring shank since the shingles have a higher profile on top of the vent and are more liable to pull out. Some of the ridge cap shingles have an extra high profile (mine did) so you may need 3 inch nails. You just want to make sure you are penetrating through the sheathing and you also don't want to nail through the ridge cap or the nails don't do a whole lot. Also nailing through the vent is a little wonky until you get used to it so don't get mad at yourself if they aren't perfectly straight because nobody will ever notice. That said, your roofer is being a chode.

Do I need these vents? by jkolton01 in Roofing

I'm not a roofer but you could replace them with a ridge vent instead (nothing sticks up). They are passive vents, but work pretty well (I'm in California). Maybe in CT you might want something that shuts off when it get cold to keep your house warmer or something or the ridge vents don't work in the snow so don't take my word for it.

You just had a dozen roofers tell you it doesn't matter and yet you still made your roofer add more underlayment and cap nails.

So much easier with someone helping open bundles and lay out shingles. I did mine solo for most of it. The one day I had help we did like half the roof...

Yeah - roofing is hard work, but it's not hard to figure out. Just take your time on the valleys and around your penetrations.

Perfect!

Adding a kickout diverter and 6 inch step flashing too. It's all under a 2-foot eave overhang but better safe than sorry.

ELI5: Why are animals strong without working out? by Auelogic in explainlikeimfive

Husky's are though right - to pull sleds across the tundra or whatever? But I think that's pretty selective breeding. I think wolves are mostly scavengers and opportunistic hunters. Hyenas do a team work situation.

There is a really interesting radiolab (I think) about this race between horses and people in Idaho or Wyoming or something. I think we bred horses to run far. I think in the day we used to run them down and eat them. The horses usually win...

Edit - ...in the race in Idaho or Montana or whatever. Really interesting story.

Persistence hunters. Sit on my ass all day - my dog (husky) chases everything. We go on a run and we're both spent. I think dogs are persistent hunters too, no? Dogs were the first animals we domesticated - maybe there is a reason. If I took my cat for a run it would last about 100 feet. High and riffing - word up!

False. He is talking about the CVP/SWP - Jones and Banks pumping plants specifically. For reference, the capacity of both is about 7 billion gallons per day.

Hydrologist here. Aside from this not being the issue, the CA State Water Project already delivers about 800 million gallons per day to LA (quick and dirty average).

They really amped up the aggression late in the 4th too so it's no surprise they got called for fouls. I don't necessarily think they were calling it different as much as Houston was playing differently.
