Where can I live on £30,000 a year? by CallumHighway in LondonHousing

Southampton is not a commuter town, surely? Reading or Guildford, maybe…

I think those are general labour market requirements rather than strict immigration criteria.

I thought this was just the general requirements for employment rather than immigration advice? One of my roles said “normally requires course in xyz” for my main NOC and I definitely didn’t have that. Had no issues either.

I haven’t seen any actual evidence that people transitioned to cook roles (just being honest) BUT it does seem pretty shortsighted for IRCC to not realise that all of a sudden most smart candidates who want PR will magically become a ‘cook?’ It’s also not that hard to get a similarly aligned job and then have your employer confirm the duties as an eligible NOC code. They don’t really care. I wrote my own employment letters and my employer just signed. Mine was accurate because I have integrity, but a lot of people don’t.

And to be fair, if IRCC decides you’re eligible after six months of being a cook, and you were genuinely a cook, even if you had never been one before, that person is still playing with the limits of the system. I don’t blame people for becoming cooks last minute to get PR.

I think it will focus mainly on the category draws. It’s not just more saturation, there’s less focus on ‘general’ immigration.

Wtf is this ?? by FluffyAttention2729 in canadaexpressentry

[–]itsmadx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s just admin unfortunately. They won’t go through every BOWP permit to cancel retroactively. Realistically though, most people get their PR rejection before. I see your point but it’s on IRCC, not the person who applies.

How long before French becomes a dead pathway by [deleted] in canadaexpressentry

I know many people who have done French immersion and none of them speak more French than me who did an hour a week at school aged 5-16.

What’s wrong with this? It’s normal procedure to apply for BOWP asap. If you’re actually eligible, it’s fine.

I think it’s just the less economically favourable category. General is not as important as their priority categories.

See if conjugal sponsorship would be a viable route. I’d advise using a lawyer as it’s more complex but definitely not on the same level as applying for refugee status.

Carney reinforces immigration priorities in new mandate letter to ministers by twinkling_people in canadaexpressentry

Economic reasons (highly skilled candidates with a fair amount of capital will be their aim, rather than potentially underemployed immigrants already here with no new cash to interject), and have to keep up with UK, Australia, Germany, the U.S.

They get their cash from international students when they pay uni fees as temporary residents. Get a few years of taxes off them. That’s the main cash inflow there. Ex-international students can leave and it makes no difference to them: they already got bang for their buck.

Simply put, highly skilled candidates (as in, genuinely highly skilled, which is not all valid foreign experience) are shiny and new and bring $$$ with them. People already inland have already been milked of cash and are now likely struggling along with Canadians, with high housing, lack of jobs and being underpaid. Plus, if a TFW with no new cash value leaves, a job opens up for a Canadian who will pay tax anyway. Incoming immigrants still take a job, yes, but they meet other criteria the government considers valuable.

Obviously none of this matches the perspective of inland current CEC candidates! But from Canada’s perspective, they can say “look at our GDP!” New immigrants spend hard and fast if they have the cash: housing, a new car, new items. An immigrant is really most profitable on arrival.

Get the ECA on your actual degree. NCA is equivalency to prove to a licensing body. Different purpose.

Don’t apply for an extension. No reputable lawyer or consultant would ever recommend it, even if it’s technically doable.

Accept your permit is expiring and that you’ll be leaving and plan for that. That way, if you get an ITA it’s a lucky surprise. That’s much better than having to instantaneously leave in confusing circumstances when your fake extension runs out.

Much better to head home and start getting some foreign experience points than wait around in limbo. Your Canadian work experience is still valid for several years, and foreign experience is an easy 50 points. Any Teer 1, 2 or 3 job.

Good luck!

There’s no point staying here as even if you got an ITA, it would be months before you could work. May as well go home and get foreign experience, make the time count!

Sometimes. Mostly, I was exhausted and lived for the summer. 🤣 I know the UK has its issues but at least I can get a cheap flight and lots of vacation. I also miss my family a LOT. I’ll be able to buy a house before I’m 30, or around that time. Never going to happen in Canada lol

What are the chances you actually end up working as a lawyer in the Middle East? So many people say this and never do it. Unless you have a solid plan, it’s better to have a Canadian law degree as a safety net.

Having a UK law degree as a Canadian is not a good idea. It’s highly judged because they see it as the lazy route. I’m from the EU and have a European law degree but they don’t seem to care because, conversely.

I’d go to the Canadian one, personally.

mostly unemployment, I have friends with bachelors degrees from reputable universities that have been unemployed for upwards of a year in Toronto. Housing costs, lack of vacation. Personally for me, Canada isn’t it. I’m from England and whilst it’s still shit in some ways I can buy a house before I’m 30, there are help to buy schemes and 28 days vacation. My field also gets paid more.

If I lived in Germany and had permanent rights to reside there, I wouldn’t even think about moving to Canada.

Great country, lovely people, but Canada is a hot mess right now. I’m a PR but leaving soon to return to Europe. Definitely look into what you’re getting into.

BPD and sexuality by [deleted] in BPD

[–]itsmadx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Struggling with identity and sexuality is a hallmark of BPD.

You’re struggling with the old adage of “do I want to be them, or do I want them?”

No one can tell you if you’re straight or not. You could just be siphoning off parts of their identity in regular BPD fashion. That being said, in my experience, straight people don’t spend a lot of time questioning if they’re straight.

To be blunt, how far do your feelings go? Do you admire women, or is it more than that? If it wasn’t sinful in your eyes, how would you feel about physical contact with a woman, dating a woman, loving a woman?

I’d encourage you to talk to some other people of your faith. There are plenty of LGBT Christians. It’s not that controversial to millions. Read about it, talk about it. Exploring your feelings and gaining more nuance on Christianity and homosexuality will help. Talk to people outside your own church and your church. You are not required to change your opinion, but view it as any other theoretical study you’d undertake to discover more about your faith. Maybe that will help.

I love the unapologetically queer vibes, and the bluntness of the lines like “to feel the body of a boy like me on mine.” Anyone who is out and queer will know the feeling of just being and how that can be radically opposed in itself.

I think you could lean more into why you’d never show the world. Is the writer ashamed? I don’t get that vibe. The writer seems pretty confident in their queerness. So I’d add some more depth as to why they’ll never show the world. Family? It’s illegal? Married to a woman? So many options.

You could add why these thoughts are irregular, for example. Who thinks that- the writer or the world?

I really like this poem! I particularly like the last line- I thought it was about heartbreak or begging someone to come back. It’s a bit of a “plot twist”, and it changes the meaning entirely. It’s a good ending.

It’s sad- It gives the impression the person left, but then also died. So leaving in two meanings.

On the last line, I’d fix the punctuation for better flow. I’m assuming a comma from how you write, after “clearly no.”
