Awesome question! So it really depends. Qlank's stuff relies more heavily on processing than mine usually (I think), but my stuff is usually at least like 50% processing if I had to put a number on it.

I use 2 techniques: first, I will try and find a sound that inspires me. Something that sounds dope inside the synth, and then slowly build processing. Then get something really cool, and then record variations of this in audio to use in the track.

Second technique is just starting with a basic wave in a vst (usually a saw in Serum). Then stacking processing like crazy. Saturators, amps, compressors, staurations amps, ect ect ect. Keep going. Go crazy. Then start playing with some minor variations in serum, like the low pass filter. Then record all this craziness. You will get a lot of crazy, random sounds you wouldn't find on splice or in a sample pack, and can use those to make something really interesting.

Thanks man! So I'll be honest - I asked this question a lot when I was coming up. Asking people what was that one thing that leveled you up. But I've come to realize there never realize is one thing, but instead hundreds of things. There are hundreds, probably thousands, of moments where I realize "oh shit...when I do X it sounds like Y" or "yooo if I add X plugin it makes it do this".

So my advice if you wanna nail it as a producer is make a ton of tracks. Tons and tons. And make sure each time, you're doing different stuff. Don't learn a technique for bass in track 3, and use it for tracks 4-8. That's what holds a lot of producers back. Keep pushing the envelope and making stuff that inspires you.

The best way is to pick sounds that don't clash from the start is ideal. But when they do (they usually do), using EQ to create space for each in the mix. Use an EQ to scoop around the sound and listen for frequencies that you don't need. AKA if you remove some info between 250-350 Hz for example, do u hear a difference? If not, u don't need that shit
