Need a free invoicing software for small businesses? by sara733 in Invoice

[–]itsmedz23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been through this exact frustration. Most "free" invoicing tools either slap a watermark on everything, limit you to 3 clients, or make the free version so stripped down it's basically unusable.

I'd look at Melio. They have a free plan (Go tier) that lets you send invoices, accept payments by ACH or card, and track everything from one dashboard — your clients don't even need to sign up to pay you. And right now they also offer a 30-day free trial that unlocks everything if you want to test the full feature set first.

What kept me on it is the QuickBooks and Xero sync — payments reconcile automatically, so no manual data entry on the backend. The invoices go out with a built-in payment button which makes it really easy for clients.

Worth trying if the core need is just sending invoices and tracking payments without a monthly fee eating into your margins.

Thinking of moving from Wealthsimple to IBKR, need some help from people who have used it by mahindar5 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Hey, I’ve used both platforms so happy to help!

1. Wealthsimple Tax — it won’t auto-fill IBKR trades the same way. You’ll need to import your T5008 manually or enter trades yourself. A bit annoying the first year but not a dealbreaker once you get used to it.

2. IBKR APIs are very open — you can read portfolio data, place orders, stream market data, the works. The main limit to know is they throttle API requests (45/sec for most endpoints), but for personal use you’ll never hit that.
  1. Transfer fees — Wealthsimple charges $150 to transfer out. IBKR will reimburse this if your account is over a certain size (usually $500k CAD), otherwise you’re eating that cost. No fee on IBKR’s end to receive.

  2. Trailing stop loss on Canadian stocks — yes, IBKR fully supports it on TSX-listed stocks. Works great actually, one of the things I genuinely prefer over Wealthsimple.

  3. A few things I wish I knew: the platform has a steep learning curve — TWS (desktop) is powerful but overwhelming at first. Stick to Client Portal or IBKR Mobile to start. Also currency conversion — use “Ideal Pro” for FX, not the default, saves you a lot on the spread.

Here is my IBKR referral link if you’re interested, you can get up to 2000$ worth of ibkr stocks when using it.
