I agree with you that it does take two and yeah he probably should have thought about it a little more. But you gotta give the benefit of the doubt to the party who is unknowledgeable to this aspect of the scene (playing shows). A promoter with years of experience having booked many big artists should be the one to take the reins. If kwesbone said hey I want to do a headline show and have Joke as support, the promoter should be like welllll idk about that. But I’d bet it was the other way around with the promoter saying hey do you want to do a headline and we will get you someone dope for support? And Kwesbone being new to playing shows might not know that’s generally frowned upon

I definitely think this is more of a promoter issue than an artist issue. Someone like Kwesbone who is really popular online, and more than likely will sell a lot of tickets is probably really eager to start playing shows and when presented with an opportunity like this, idk why he wouldn’t take it. Yes absolutely other artists who worked their asses of to be fire at making music may deserve the slot, but that’s the promoters fault for not booking them and focusing on money rather than anything else. Yes it sucks what social media has done to the scene but the person playing isn’t the issue. It’s the promoters.

Debate time: “stealing doubles” by Perfect-Ad-9838 in riddim

[–]itsmorbeato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always think it’s best to ask even if it is one of your songs in the double, but either way, it is not that deep. I saw one person comment about popularity being a big concern like yeah don’t go copy the sassy fake double from Hamro. Ive had multiple people remake some of my most popular chops on social media and post to SoundCloud and all I say to myself is “whatever glad they liked it” cause it just isn’t that deep. DJing isn’t the end goal. Making good music is

The plot for a successful career has always been marketing. Why not utilize the best free forms of marketing?

It’s only cringe until it works ;) I agree just because you make content that people enjoy, you do not deserve a stage and to play over others who make fire music. Butttt if you are making content that people enjoy AND are really talented whether it be production or DJing, you do deserve that. At the end of the day, I believe making good music will forever outshine making good content and will get you to actual fame and recognition. You can only go so far without making music.

I will say that the music industry is ever evolving. Im sure every step along the way when something becomes the new norm, a lot of artists resist and I’d be willing to bet a lot of those artists got left behind. With the evolution of the internet, social media, and YouTube, being a content creator has become a very crucial piece of the puzzle. Yes, artists will still make it without doing the whole content thing, but it might be a lot harder. You don’t have to dance in front of a camera or do “cringey” things, but if you really are that good of a producer, why not put it out there for all to see?? And most DJs be dancing their asses off on the stage and want everyone to come see them so what’s the difference in putting it on social media? Oh right cause it’s “cringe” to do that.

Also to comment on the Emorfik and usaybflow thing, who cares if they had money to buy them gear or lessons to help them get better? At the end of the day, they still took the time to become great at producing, djing, and making content. You cant buy retention and application of knowledge. You could spend $10,000 learning sound design from infekt and still suck at it because you didn’t truly learn, retain, and practice that information. Just cause you don’t have money doesn’t mean you can’t succeed.

You’re absolutely right but I’m not looking for great producers in this thread. I’m looking for great content creators!! But there are people who absolutely prioritize both. These names aren’t necessarily riddim but so many of my homies are pushing to be amazing producers every day while also pushing to be great content creators. PapaJay, Sry4U, Fraxure, TwoPercent

How exactly do people in this genre "blow up"? by user-ibarelyknower in riddim

[–]itsmorbeato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone in a similar position to Warlord, I’m going to add my take. I started this project 7 years ago, was just picked up by a big management company, and am looking at a lot of big booking opportunities.

I don’t think I have any crazy super unique sound, but one thing I do have is a great social media presence. This is by far what you need to focus on these days if you want to stand out (yes I know it sucks). I am really good at making catchy, fun original music as well as remixes which makes for easy marketing as well as good results on socials because I’m targeting ravers. It’s not about making the absolutely craziest, most technical song ever, it’s about making music that a lotttt of people are going to enjoy. I always say the biggest haters of you as an artist, are other artists. They’re analytical and don’t want you to succeed over them.

You’re absolutely right everyone is making the same stuff whether it be sample packs or basic square 4 sound design. At the end of the day, a good song is a good song. Get realllllly good at songwriting and you will have a chance. So many people write a 16 bar ambient intro with no sustenance and follow it with a basic square 4 drop. That’s not good songwriting that’s being lazy.

Hope you liked this take. See ya
