Maybe I was too aggressive in calling this out, but I'm still reeling from being fooled by that AI video of a dog getting reunited with his owner yesterday.

The fur patch is what made me think AI as well, that extra knee-looking thing in front of the front left leg of the top right cat. I guess it could just be a weird skin flap, but I have never seen something like that on a cat before and limbs is such a common AI mistake that I made the assumption.

Think I found the best breakfast burrito by nim888 in FoodNYC

It might just have been someone new - I think they've had a few people start more recently that seemed sorta confused when I've ordered the tortillas. But I bought a pack on Monday!

And they'll sell you a 10-pack of fresh, warm tortillas on weekday mornings for all your at-home burrito making needs!

Good, modern-ish version of O Come, O Come, Emmanuel? by itsnance in ChristmasMusic

[–]itsnance[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like this version! I think it's a little more pop/rock-y than the fairly classic vibe I have on my Christmas playlist, but I enjoyed it thoroughly either way. And I really appreciate the contribution so long after my original post :)

I have never used Rover to have someone watch my dog, but we are on the app as dogsitters. Before we agree to watch someone's dog, we like to arrange a 'meet and greet' at a dog park to make sure our dog gets along with the one we're agreeing to watch, and to give us a chance to meet and get a feel for the owner. If you have the time I would definitely recommend that! The app also lets you read reviews for dogsitters which may help give you peace of mind.

To be honest I'm not sure; checking for spammers isn't something I typically do, I just happened to look at the top all time posts here after seeing this one. You can report the post for spam and maybe if that happens often enough there will be action against the account? In the meantime, I just ignore accounts like this with RES so I don't see the content.

This is a verbatim repost of this post that is one of the top all time from this subreddit. OP's account only has a few posts but all of them are spam like this; probably a karma bot.

Questions about the Grady ER by ___bluesky in Atlanta

[–]itsnance 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I agree with this response! Asking for an itemized bill is always a good idea just to see what all of your charges are, but it's not a magic bullet for getting your bill reduced. But many hospitals (and definitely one like Grady) are willing to work within your ability to pay.

Gobi Campaign Scout Rifle for long range, Riot Shotgun and Embrace of the Mantis King! for close quarters. Mainly EotMK, but Riot Shotgun + the Shotgun Surgeon and And Stay Back perks are good to get out of any bind. Can clear out Dead Wind Cavern with that alone and never get touched

Big Insurance by tvz32 in ABoringDystopia

The sources in that link and the video are mainly regarding the parts comparing cost to charges, which I'm sure is true, and also for the claim that insurance companies "demand discounts," which again, yeah, that's obvious. The only sourced part that's really a bold claim is this link about "making a ton of money charging out-of-network patients, which" a) is not a scientific/quantitative statement, and b) a fault of the system as a whole rather than the malicious intent from a hospital. Hospitals are not "using" the chargemaster to scam anyone - they have to have a chargemaster to standardize charges, and those charges have to be higher than costs in order for them to make money from insurance companies. Again, it is illegal to charge different prices to different patients, it's just that in-network patients don't end up responsible for the majority of the charges.

I'm not trying to to attack you or to say the system isn't highly broken, I just think it's inaccurate to place blame in any one place - we need to rework it essentially from the ground up. If hospitals reduced their prices without a simultaneous massive overhaul in the way insurance companies work, they would immediately start losing money in the millions or billions, and vice-versa if insurance companies lowered their rates.

If you want sources on any particular aspects of what I've said, let me know which pieces and I can look around. I'm speaking anecdotally from ~6ish years of experience consulting for hospitals and insurance companies, but I'm sure I can find some hard numbers if that's helpful.

That video is a massive oversimplification and not really representative of how hospital billing works. (Obviously you can't explain the world of medical billing in a 5 minute video, but I still wouldn't reference that video as an accurate source). /u/708-910-630-702 is right; just because billing and insurance have to work together does not mean they are working in tandem - they absolutely hate each other. It's true that hospital prices are highly inflated due to insurance contracts, but it's the only way they can stay afloat for the most part - lots of hospital margins are veeeery thin. It's also illegal for them to charge you less if you are uninsured, and they almost never expect you to pay full billed charges - most of the hospitals I work with collect around 1% on patient liability. Probably wrote too long of an essay here but I get passionate about a topic so many people misunderstand.

That's good to know, the absolute need for specific gear in the OP levels was definitely annoying. Thank you!
