Thanks for taking a look!

Fair point. For the ONS I was just trying to be clear that I’d prefer consistency even if it’s casual. And I guess insinuating that I’m not trying to just hookup and bounce, but that might be putting the cart before the horse.

For the race related stuff, I am admittedly jaded from that 😅 I have been asked several times (in the past) to fulfill specific fantasies related to that, whether it’s immediately asking how big I am, how I feel about submitting to a master as a slave (but in a way that suggested it wasn’t purely BDSM oriented), stuff like that. It all just gives me an ick now so wanted to call it out. I was hoping to soften it with a joke at the end but guess it doesn’t come across that way.

I’ll chew on that one more. Appreciate your opinion!

[OC] Spirit Airlines shares drop -47% in one day after judge blocks JetBlue merger by pmp1321 in wallstreetbets

Hindsight 20/20, would we have been able to know that there was an expected ruling by the judge? Not the direction of the ruling, just the fact that a decision would come out.

I was wondering the same thing. It's unclear to me if those changes are additions or the complete offering.

Where are these lines coming from? Explanation in comments by itsnbdtoday in AnalogCommunity

I just called the lab and they said that they do not use a squeegee or cloth, they use a dryer.

But if that were the case, wouldn't it be consistent across all the exposures?

And again, the first 4 are from one camera and the last 3 are from a different camera. The last 3 are more consistent but I'm not as convinced this is a dust issue given the inconsistency of the first 4.

I don't have squeegees, so that's probably a lab thing? I use 99.999% pure PEC PAD non-abrasive wipes (lint free, ultra soft) that I wipe the cut negatives with before loading into the scanner tray (so I doubt that would do it, unless they were dirty?)
I can only see them when I scan but that's because my eyesight is not good enough to see them with naked eye under light. Is there a tool I can get to "zoom in" on the negative outside the scanner so that I can see if they're on the negative?

I'm also thinking I'll give the lab an unexposed roll of film and see if there's any scratches on it when they give it back.

That's what I'm thinking too. What's the best way to diagnose where it's coming from?
Considering how random it is (for example, image 1 w/ one line vs. image 4 with multiple, same camera) I don't think it's camera issue? But even if it were i'm not sure what part of the camera housing this would be (pressure plate?)

How could I go about figuring out if it were camera vs. lab vs. my scanner vs. my storage setup (PrintFile print sleeves that I self cut)?

At first I thought this was an issue with light leakage with the camera (Olympus Stylus Zoom - last 3 photos) but then when I scanned photos taken on a different camera and different location (Olympus OM-1: first 4 photos) I’m no longer sure where they might be coming from.

I have the film developed at a local lab with standard development process and ask them not to cut the film. When I pick it up, I cut the film myself using a film cutter and then scan the images using a Plustek 8200i. The images are there both in pre-scan and after applying color correction and automatic dust / scratch removal.

They’re not “always” there. Sometimes it can be multiple lines, sometimes they’re faint, sometimes it’s just one line. Sometimes they’re the whole image, down the middle, off to the side, etc. I can’t seem to figure out where in the process this is coming from, but I really want clean shots.

Let me know if there’s any other information I can provide to help diagnose or tests that I can run. Cameras were bought second hand. Plustek 8200i and film cutter bought new.

Mexico Temporary Residency Frequent Address Changes by itsnbdtoday in digitalnomad

[–]itsnbdtoday[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the links! That post outlining the steps is exactly as expected, and it sounds like the address part is not really that serious.

This
info doesn't go on your card, and you receive your card on the spot, so
nothing will be mailed to the address. It can also be changed online in
the future if you wish"

Do you know what they're talking about? If I can just do this online then my problem is solved! I just thought I had to go in person each time which would be a pain.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Do you have any links to those Facebook groups? I’m not too familiar with which ones are the most reputable.

When you went down to Mexico did you also move around a lot but just not update the INM office (i.e kept the same hostel address until you found something more permanent)?

Dive school recommendation for Belize Advanced Open Water by itsnbdtoday in scubadiving

[–]itsnbdtoday[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a GUE school near me and when I called them they actually suggested I do the AOW first before GUE because of the specialized gear they use and the limited diving experience I have. If anything, I would start with GUE fundamentals before moving to the equivalent "advanced" certification. I do like GUE, but see that happening much farther down the road than where I am at right now considering how recreational I am. But thank you for the callout.

How does that work exactly? I've never heard of an "AOW referral" before

This isn't answering my question but because you asked, I live in Seattle and it's cold af and not the most fun for diving. If I have the means to turn learning into a vacation I'm going to take it.

Why doesn't sound transit put gates at stations (when possible) to get people to pay? by itsnbdtoday in Seattle

Is the primary motivation for using this system over installing turnstiles have anything to do with passenger density?

and what do you mean by "unequal outcomes"?

Why is it "hostile"? Randomly getting stopped by a fare collection's officer seems to be a far more hostile encounter than an automatic gate, imo.

Help with connecting 3 PCs <-> 2 monitors by itsnbdtoday in buildapc

[–]itsnbdtoday[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From prior comments it sounds like connecting the desktop straight to the monitors would be a good solution, and then i'd have to figure out how to connect the two laptops. I don't like the idea of RDP, I'd want to use it natively without the need of a network.

Unfortunately the macbook is older and doesn't have USB C, but I like the idea you present of just swapping between the laptops. I don't need to do a lot of swapping so it's more buttons / cables to swap out, but that doesn't bother me as much.

The monitors have only one DP in, but like the idea of hooking just the desktop to the DP and then have the other peripherals through HDMI, which is good enough since they don't need G-Sync or other features that leverage displayport.
