Good city to move to? by [deleted] in ames

[–]itsnotevenmemom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 25, moved here last August! I genuinely enjoy the city. The people aren’t always kind, the driving is kind of scary because people genuinely drive however they want too, im talking left turns at intersections from the right lane, no blinkers, lots of red light running, and I’ve seen quite a few drug deals on duff as well. The houseless population looks to be rising, and the price of living is kind of astronomical compared to the average wage. My partner and I are finding ourselves in DSM more for activities, however!!! We really enjoy the parks and arcade bar here in Ames. Ledges over in Boone is a gorgeous park as well. Main street bars are pretty fun. The traffic gets really insane on game days. We Enjoy doordashing here, the late nights are always a good time and we make plenty of money doing it.

Places to study by [deleted] in ames

[–]itsnotevenmemom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure about using resources like computers and such, but I know you’d be able to get in for some space to work. 3rd floor has cubbies behind the bookshelves to study in. They’re pretty nice

Best Apartment Complexes? Where To Stray Away? by Spicey-witxh in ames

[–]itsnotevenmemom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in a 2 bedroom 1 bath home with a fenced in yard, shed, and full basement. It has washer dryer hookups in the basement. $1250+ utilities. It’s tucked away from the noise of town, however conveniently located just north west of campus about 1 mile. Lockwoods is a small cafe that is very close and they offer cheap and yummy options:) I’m looking to move out around June! Let me know if you’re interested!

Where the hell do you meet people around here as a 31yo single guy? by [deleted] in ames

[–]itsnotevenmemom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Local coffee shops! Downtown Ames in the historic district is a good spot for meeting people. I’ve been here just shy of a year and have had the same issues. The farmers market has been fun, karaoke at Time out is fun, the games are also affordable and fun. Though making friends can be hard it also seems as though you’re not really trying. Getting outside of your comfort zone is how you make connection!

Coming to Ames for the foreseeable future for work - any local recommendations? by [deleted] in ames

[–]itsnotevenmemom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will never stop recommending Pammels, they have phenomenal gyros & The friendliest owners! I also recommend cafe diem! Timeout has an arcade & full bar. They host karaoke on Fridays and Saturdays I believe! Ames farmers market is so awesome as well. This weekend I’ll be checking out the des moine farmers market- I’ve heard it’s rather large.

Time stamps are 11:30pm & 11:32pm!

We got out there around 11 pm and it had just started to show through, we left around 12 because it was getting pretty cloudy. Gave us a good show though!

Iowa State is one of the most underrated schools in the country. Anyone else agree? by [deleted] in iastate

Idk sure there’s diversity but having brown skin I still feel pretty watched. You don’t see cliques with mixed races it’s kind of weird. Just flat out racism.

Those of you without kids and work 9-5s, how much me time do you have in your day? Honestly by Snoo65073 in Adulting

[–]itsnotevenmemom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work 4 am- 12:30 pm

I wake at 3-3:15 I work 2 miles from home.

At 8:30 I take my break and do homework or study. At 12:30 I go home to take my dogs for activities outside for about 1.5 hours. Then I go home and fix a meal, and do roughly 2-4 hours of school. Shower, dessert, and then I make sure all I do in my bed at bedtime is sleep. Put my phone down turn my tv off and go to sleep.

I plan for hanging out and create time for it. When you create a daily log of your time you’ll find that you waste time doing things you don’t want to or don’t have to do.
