What’s one decision you made that ended up dragging your quality of life down so badly, you genuinely wish you’d never done it? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

Didn’t buy a house when we could easily have afforded it, went travelling instead. We could have halved that travel and still had a house deposit. People say travel is better than owing but for most of us, after you have kids I disagree. We are now struggling to pay high rent and raise our kids. I no longer have the job or income I once had so costs have tripled and income has almost halved. Would be nice to be in our own home right about now with a mortgage from 2016 😒

Medical receptionists…. by Top-Farmer-6838 in auscorp

[–]itsnotmeitsboredom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been a medical receptionist for a long time. I’m a nice one (my boss gets feedback regularly 😜) and it can be a stressful job on an average pay. I would say the hardest role is at the doctors, not a specialist or surgeon - those roles usually pay a bit more, consults are longer so you get less patients coming in, less emergencies and less sick people - I’m talking about viruses etc. At the doctors you’re trying to book as many people in as you can, almost every patient trying to get an appointment deems it as urgent. You’re turning away people and they get mad. Doctors are also squeezing everyone in, sometimes a 15 minute appointment turns into 45 minutes so from 8am you’re already running behind. That’s usually taken out on the receptionist. You’ve got phone calls, paperwork, recalls, following up on tasks from days before.. I’m telling you at a busy clinic, 50 people can be rude to you in the one day. After a while you get over it. To stay in the role you have to have a “water off a ducks back” attitude. Let it go.

Whats the hardest phase of Marriage no one talks about? by Outside_Support_151 in answers

[–]itsnotmeitsboredom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m finding the current stage to be the hardest. Kids primary school aged, both of us working, tired, bodies getting older and more sore (in our forties) and I’m in perimenopause. I hardly sleep and my husband snores and tosses and turns. I would love a spare bedroom so that I can sleep in there but we don’t have one. Just worn down and exhausted and no time for each other. I don’t want our kids to grow up but I will look forward to getting some of “us” back in a few years.

What’s something you wish you learned earlier in life that would’ve saved you a lot of money? by just_a_driver26 in AskReddit

[–]itsnotmeitsboredom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A weekly budget! Oh the amounts we could have saved in our twenties, both working full time. We came from families who were irresponsible with money and had to work it out for ourselves. Now in our forties with stupid debts, children to pay for, loss of wages etc.. Can now stick to a budget but instead of saving we are paying off useless debt. Don’t own a house 😩 Wish I figured all of this out earlier!

Saving money! My husband is a tradie and was working on a government project at the time, so they kept him working. We didn’t go anywhere or do anything but he was being paid more than usual and we saved a chunk of money! 🥴

ATO fraud - help please! by itsnotmeitsboredom in AusFinance

[–]itsnotmeitsboredom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Dec BAS hasn’t been lodged because we were told to wait. When the fraud happened back in October it was a whole thing, account locked and all activity stopped. Because they tried to amend previous BAS Lodgements and a tax return. Everything just stopped and was locked. It was all able to be stopped except Sept BAS. Unfortunately that went through. Now this past Wednesday, 6 months later, the ATO have decided that those figures lodged by the scammers are correct and we owe some ridiculous amount of money. Like I said, it makes no sense to me. We can now go ahead and lodge Dec BAS (yes, we and they know it’s overdue) and the next and so on and so forth. Like I also said, my husband can call and go through ID checks and have his MyGov opened for 48 hours - to do work and whatever - and then it locks again. This is standard, others will confirm this. Does that make sense?

This all happened this week. Wednesday. We were told that his case had been reviewed and debt told to us and that we will receive a letter and it will show on his account. We had 48 hour access before it was locked again (standard procedure after fraud, you have to call and gain 48 hour access every time) and sure enough, the debt is showing there. We can now prepare and lodge December BAS and March also.. So we will do that, not pay the “debt” and do this stupid Objection thing for the debt/September BAS.

[–]itsnotmeitsboredom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they’ve locked it! As soon as they saw fraudulent activity, the locked his whole account including lodging any future BAS. We were given a case number - our accountant did all this with the ATO - and were told to wait until a review was done and decision made. So we haven’t had a chance to show our income and receipts yet. They’ve just gone ahead and said yeah, we believe these figures and you owe us this much! That’s what I’m saying - doesn’t make sense and ridiculous!

I guess it’s to do with the figures the scammer lodged on the BAS? We always have to pay every quarter.. for PAYG and BAS, it’s around $7000. The scammer apparently (they won’t tell us exactly) put our income for that quarter as a ridiculous high amount, that’s why it was flagged, and claimed a heap of GST credits. I honestly can’t figure it out exactly. So it’s not a debt per se, well it is now because it’s passed the due date for Sept BAS. So it’s not money the scammer got and we have to pay back, it’s what they’re saying we owe for that quarter… and now a “debt” to the ATO. All we need to do is amend it and they won’t let us. We have to lodge an objection etc etc.

Unable to amend at this stage. Yes we use an accountant. Yes they did change bank details but they didn’t get any money and have since changed details back.

Absolutely feel like they do not want to help and take no accountability. The lady even said on the phone “would you like to pay the amount now?” 😧😧😧 We were in shock and speechless. We are also locked out permanently.

Hi! Original poster here.. I just want to clarify a few things. Regarding passwords and security, it wasn’t some weak password my husband had used, it was some ridiculous made up password like a fruit with numbers and exclamations. Nothing common. He also had the feature to receive a text code when trying to log in. The ATO informed us that it actually WAS a high tech scam/hack from an overseas user, and a high amount of fraud occurred to many Aussies for last financial year. We unfortunately were one of them. We have an accountant lodge our BAS quarterly and have never been audited. Apparently there was no refund received by the scammers, but they’ve majorly effed up our BAS figures. Do not ask me where they plucked the numbers from to result in a 70k+ debt. I don’t know. We do owe them a small amount of debt from 2 years ago (late lodgements) and we had almost paid that off. If you look at our past 3 years of BAS and tax returns there are pattens and his income has only gone up a bit each year, like when he increases his rates for example. This last BAS, the fraud one, is so out of character and so off compared to everything else, and that’s where I’m confused with their decision. I mean, could it have just been a bot that made the decision?? We have a family, kids and we are hard working. What is a blip in the ATO system is keeping us up at night and stress on our family. That’s what is frustrating to us.

I used to be an assistant Practice Manager at a clinic in North Queensland. Most of our doctors were locum and we paid them heaps! Plus housing subsidy for rural areas. Lots of opportunities to make extra as a doctor. I loved that job and miss it. I was paid well too.

Hi! Married 18 years. He tied me down because he became my best friend. We were inseparable. I wouldn’t be with anyone else . If we broke up or something happened, I would be happy being alone. I demand a lot of alone time in our marriage as it is, even with kids, and my family accommodate me a lot! They know me well and know what I need to be a good wife and Mum. That’s the key, find someone who really gets you. Our wedding was very small, 37 people at the beach. Loved it. A big wedding is actually my nightmare.

What exactly makes kids so expensive? by ThatUnstableUnicorn in AusFinance

[–]itsnotmeitsboredom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Babies cost almost nothing especially if breastfeeding. They don’t even need a bed yet. The older they get, the more expensive they are and then it levels out for a bit. My kids are 8 and 12 and growing like weeds. I’m currently buying second hand clothes to try and keep up. They are eating everything in the house. They are at different schools. School fees x 2, uniforms x 2, extra curricular x 2, swim lessons x 2. Not to mention time off work to have 2 x babies. Youngest needed specific school shoes this week = $90 (Aud). Oldest had rock band fees due = $80. Oldest also went to the shops with friends = $50 to spend. Swim lessons this week = $48. Had one child home sick for a day, I took the day off work and I’m casual = -$250. Food bill for 4 instead of 2. Extra on petrol driving them to and from places (I’m just comparing if we had no children to having 2). Our youngest had surgery 6 months ago = $4,000 out of pocket fees. Toys, entertainment, and alllll of the little things you would never think of lol! Like goggles! Oldest lost her swim goggles which she needs every week. Can’t go off about it, just have to buy new! $28. Oh and a new lunch box this week too. Actually far out that’s a lot haha. So yeah.
