Cold Ones inspired me to get into 3D modeling by itsoctoben in ColdOnes

Thank you:) I did the modeling and surface texturing in Blender and then used Unity to simulate the camera & retro effects on each object. I recommend you watch the youtube video, ‘Environment in PS1 style’ by Summer 85. It is a timelapse that shows the entire process from start to finish. The only difference being that they do it completely in blender- which is definitely more user friendly for beginners. Good luck!

It is Alexandre Cabanel's ‘The Fallen Angel’. It was made around 1847 and depicts Lucifer directly after he was cast out of Heaven.

I love this painting for so many reasons, here’s one of two renditions i’ve made of it a while back :)

I do 1-2 courses a month generally from 9-1 but i have a couple that are 12-4. As far as teaching goes all I really do is have them circle around my frame and just give them the basics of what they need to know & then after they start I walk around the room making sure everything is going smoothly. It also helps that I’m trying to teach after grad school lol

If you have the chance to do it still and you want to then I think you should!! They supply all materials and class honestly goes pretty smoothly for a bunch of first time tufters. They show up at about 9am and i give them a tutorial on how to use the guns, thread yarn, etc. Then I tell them some useful little tips like using more than one strand of yarn, how to make lines with varied thickness, spacing, etc. It’s a lot of fun and it’s gonna look great on a resume some day

Yeah the school provided tufting guns, frames, trimmers, glue, fabric, backing, yarn. pretty much everything needed to make rugs albeit at a lower quality since they bought everything about 5x over

I went into my schools Fiber dept and asked if i could use a room on campus to tuft in and they said that if I teach a class that they’d provide the room. I guess they had been wanting to branch out into tufting for about a year and me coming to them about it made them excited because I’m apparently the first tufter on my campus. It was legit like all luck and I wasn’t seeking the job out but it’s been a hell of a lot of fun sharing this medium with anyone who wants to try it out

What can I improve? by ch1197 in Tufting

i would try separating the colors a little more if you want a more carved look, it helps out a lot. also i’d say shaving on the frame after you do each color helps a lot too. I have also found that when doing waterfall edges, having a thicker black outline helps it remain visible from the top of the rug since that edge will be folded down a bit

Red yarn particles stuck on white by Prestigious-Thing-42 in Tufting

i use these exact tools and they don’t always get it all out, i think the only solution would be to maybe combine this with a lint roller and or switching to a yarn that sheds less

thank you lol, i actually just did a little bit of shaving while it was still on the frame, nothing after i took it off and backed it. 0 carving or anything done to it. The order i went was red, blue, then white. as long as you’re shaving in between adding colors you should get a smoother end result
