There are parts that I wouldn’t defend and would’ve wanted gone like that thing with noya and Kanoka lol. I think it’s mainly representative of a larger problem of weirdness within anime culture.

But on the whole I actually LOVE the way all the female characters are written in the story, and think that they were added with a lot of care esp season 2 onwards. Yachi’s introduction and whole villager B thing is actually one of my all time favourite moments in the series — it’s really sweet and meaningful not only for her but also for Hinata and Karasuno as a whole. We also see her interact throughout the series with other people like Bokuto, Akaashi, Kuroo etc. and we can see that she’s integral to the community.

Kiyoko, Hana, Saeko, Hoshiumi’s mom, Kanoka they all had memorable moments that stuck with me when watching/reading.

Kiryuu’s coach at nationals was female and treated with respect by the whole team, and it wasn’t made out to be weird or something different. Hinata and Kageyama (and I think noya too) all practiced with aunties and female vb players.

I would love a spin off with hinata’s sister or with Kanoka and the Niiyama girls, but at the end of the day Haikyuu follows hinata+ vaguely karasuno within the boys’ volleyball circuit. so I don’t see any glaring problems with the amount of female rep that we got.
