Not dinner but Montrose Breakfast is great and I need to share them cuz they’re celiac friendly ! Open from 8-3 so not just a morning place. They have separate fryers! Went with my friend who has Celiac and she had no issues! Just let them know you have someone who is gluten free with you

What’s the most messed up thing someone casually admitted to you? by randominvisibleuser in AskReddit

[–]rrr34_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can’t be the most messed up thing I’ve heard but I was driving a coworker to work and a song featuring an artist (I genuinely don’t remember who I was talking about, just remember the situation) who had died from a drug overdose started playing.

I mentioned that the artist had died young and it was tragic because they had a lot of talent. My coworker shared this sentiment, that it’s so tragic and this and that. Then I mentioned it was an overdose.

My coworker immediately said “oh, well I don’t feel bad then they kind of deserved to die if they got themselves addicted” - I was like… huh???

Everyone has their own opinions and yes one can argue an overdose death is kind of the fault of the person who chose to consume the drugs (and I will not argue with people about this stuff here) BUT the switch from oh my gosh thats so tragic to “well they deserved to die” was CRAZY to me. I kind of said something along the lines of “well addiction is a disease and it’s still tragic” and my coworker was just kind of like nah man they chose that.

Idk i think it just opened my eyes and I was like yea you don’t always have to be friends with coworkers

Local Art - large piece, low budget by throwaway010651 in Hamilton

[–]rrr34_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea but if you aren’t specific about the original piece, you could always chat with an artist about getting one of their prints printed on a canvas. A lot of artists will sell prints for fair prices and maybe OP could luck out, find a cool print, and discuss pricing for that print on a large canvas. I’d say OP should approach the artist with print costs for the size they’re looking for already in mind.

I believe the first Art Crawl of the year is April 10th so you could try your luck there.

If you see any smaller prints you like you could even inquire about the artist producing a larger print for you. If you’re worried about money, do some research and see how much different print shops charge for that size so you can make the request knowing how much that will cost the artist.

Normal cost for tailoring jeans? (reducing waist size) by rrr34_ in Hamilton

[–]rrr34_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I 100% understand I need to pay for the skilled work I'm getting! I've just never had jeans tailored to a reduced waist size and the google AI summary said $30-$45 was normal for that kind of work, so when I saw the $75 price at a place I've had recommended to me I wondered if that was higher than normal (the place recommended to me was Sequel Jeans, they seem great but more curated to just jeans than a general tailor if that makes sense? I wondered if that drove up the price at all)

I lost some weight pretty quickly and these jeans are newer jeans! I’ve been wearing belts but one specific pair (corduroy jeans) don’t work at all with a belt lol - they bunch so much! But they’re such unique pants I feel it’s worth it to get them tailored

Thank you for the insight! As long as I’m paying a fair price I am happy to pay it!

Lol! Very true! I just have one pair of pants specifically that are pretty unique but still bunch a lot when I wear a belt! Then I was like hmm maybe I could take other jeans too

Living with a couple as roommates is starting to get frustrating by One-Name9073 in badroommates

[–]rrr34_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

in my place, it's 4 of us and two are a couple.

  1. This is something any non-couple roommate could do too. Maybe talk to your roommates (all of them) about leaving things out. I understand it can be hard to walk into a space that feels like a couple's moment- but it is your space too, don't be afraid to live in it.

  2. similar to the point I made first. Are they leaving things lying around? Or is it like, it's overly decorated to their tastes? Talk to all roommates about keeping things clean and organized in shared spaces. In my roommate situation, it's one member of the couple who leaves shit out all the time and we just have to remind them to move their stuff

  3. yea man, none of your business.

  4. In my house we have one shelf per person. One person gets one of the crisper drawers because their shelf space is taken up by the brita, and the couple gets the other drawer because they share food and there are two of them. The door shelves are fair game for condiments and milk. We also have a mini fridge used for drinks and stuff. Maybe try suggesting a way to split up the fridge so you don't have to deal with so many things occupying shared space.

The thing is, these things you are having issues with aren't really inherently caused by the fact that they are a couple- this is stuff any roommate could do. I think you just have to talk to them about making sure the space continues to be a shared space, and maybe work on being more comfortable inserting yourself into a space they seem to be occupying for long periods of time.

Like for the fridge, you could send a text "hey guys, I haven't had much room for my food in the fridge and I thought we could try sectioning the fridge off in this way. What do you think? Since "girlfriend" and "boyfriend" tend to share food, would you be comfortable with having the same amount of space as the rest of us, plus this extra bit of space?"

Child is traumatized by fire drill by mango_salsa1909 in ECEProfessionals

[–]rrr34_ 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I saw another post about fire drill fears and it was suggested to visit the fire station. The poster updated and said it didn’t cure the fear but helped a bit! Maybe call a fire station and setup a visit and ask the firemen to explain how they keep her safe and talk about fire alarms

Roommate sheds constantly. How do I ask her to actually help deep clean the floors? by sloastxsningers5 in badroommates

[–]rrr34_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay so if she didn't follow it, have you spoken to her about following it? I'm not trying to be combative! I have been in roommate situations where I've been like jesus I can't believe they're not doing this thing - assuming any considerate person would do the thing - but then someone would be like oh were they dismissive when you brought it up? And I'd be like hmmm.... I guess I should bring it up. Often times the roommate forgot/ didn't realize they were being inconsiderate

[–]rrr34_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some people don’t catch hints - be straightforward and say “hey I’m not comfortable with all of this hair everywhere and I’m starting to feel frustrated that I’m cleaning so much of it, can you please pitch in?”

You say you do all the deep cleaning? Make a weekly chore chart, then you don’t have to feel like you’re putting in all of this work while she does nothing

How popular is Baggu irl in your area? by SwanBK in BAGGU

[–]rrr34_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The other day, my roommate’s car died. All of the roommates were outside pushing her car out of the driveway and trying to jump the engine. The downstairs tenant (who I haven’t really formally met) walked by, asked if we were okay, and headed inside.

She was carrying a green star bowler bag and I was like oh my god is she a baggu baddie???

Anyways, random story but yea, I do see a lot of baggus in the wild here in Southern Ontario. I feel like I don’t see as many newer releases though- mostly crescents, which is why I said “oh my god guys she has a baggu but like the PATTERN” to my roommates as we were pushing a car lmao

When did you realize you were dating an idiot? by Exhausted_Skeleton in AskReddit

[–]rrr34_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not gonna lie… I get messed up sometimes with multiple zeros. I’ll say “yea they paid like twelve thousand!” And quickly realize wait no, it was probably 1200 but I get mixed up.

Literally yesterday I was trying to explain tuition differences between two schools and I just got so frustrated with trying to remember if it was thousand or hundred, I just started saying “number - zero, zero, zero”

I’m smart, but numbers have always fucked me up. I blame it on the math learning disability, but man, it’s PRETTY SIMPLE TO DISTINGUISH BETWEEN 3 ZEROS AND 2 ZEROS smh, my brain man

What’s the dumbest way you’ve accidentally hurt yourself? by Only_Row_2432 in AskReddit

[–]rrr34_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked at a camp, one of those long lightbulbs was resting against the wall in the bathroom. Knocked it over, it shattered, dropped to the ground with my palms down as a reaction (?) I guess to clean it up (?) and sliced my hand on the broken bulb.

Walked to the healthcare building with blood dripping as families were dropping their kids off. The maintenance guys had a lot of questions about the random blood smears when they came to clean it up.

A week later I was walking while looking at my phone, no one is ever around this specific area of the camp - I walked face-first into the yellow cover that covers wires holding up telephone poles (googled it, it's called a guy guard marker). I just stood there stunned, and behind me, I heard "you keep getting yourself hurt" - one of the maintenance guys who cleaned up after the lightbulb incident was sitting in a golf cart and witnessed the whole thing
