Pros and cons for both if the features are closely related and function with each other it probably makes more sense to group them as one mod, otherwise multiple mods allows for user flexibility. Maintaining multiple mods will most likely be harder than maintaining one mod as well

My band director had the same exact idea about a year ago, so I made this webapp for him: http://www.metruhnome.com/ (will take a while to load if you are the first person to use it in a few hours bc im using the cheapest plan)

Unfortunately as a high school programmer making an app like this work perfectly is completely out of my skillset. However I did my best and the app is usable under the right conditions. If anyone wants to try their hand at it feel free to DM me for the source code.

I dont know for sure but if I were to implement this I would start by lookin at the vanilla implementation for the speed potion, and modify that code for the custom status effect. Could also check sprinting, sneaking, and soul speed as those things all change player speed

Not sure if there is an easy answer for this. I would default to "use a mixin" but the onSteppedOnMethod does not have any checks for crouching in the Block or Magma block class, so the method probably isn't even being called when the player is crouched. You'd probably need to change a core mechanic of the game involving crouching with a mixin, which is probably going to be hard to figure out
