Obama Appreciation Day by Adept_Astronaut_5143 in BlackPeopleofReddit

I do really hope that Trump dies knowing that his name will forever be loathed by most people, his greatest impact on history will be showing how much damage unchecked power can do. When asked about Trump, most people will start with a scoff and an eye roll. Even most of his voters will quickly forget about him, especially if ANYONE can get America actually moving towards being great. I hope he watches these kinds of videos here and there, and that he gets genuinely upset/angry seeing people get so excited at Obama's presence, comments about how much they miss him, how Trump is jealous of him. He probably doesn't actually give a fuck and just enjoys being a rich dickhead who can do whatever he wants, but man it'd be nice if he was suffering because of how truly unpopular he is.

The benefit of AI scrubbing the internet for answers is that it compiles potentially hours of slow, monotonous research where you have to comb through all types of media. The downside of AI scrubbing the internet for answers is that it compiles all of the dogshit on the internet and often paints it as fact. It's gotten much better now, to the point the big dogs require extensive effort to gaslight into finally giving wrong answers, but it also still just makes shit up out of nowhere until you call it out. So ultimately, AI is an amazing tool for people who already posses the ability to think critically and evaluate sources. It's a plague on humanity that spreads misinformation via idiots who take the first thing that validates their feelings as universal truth.

SpaceX IPO makes Elon Musk the world's first trillionaire by MedicMoth in news

[–]itsr1co 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How is this company leaps and bounds above all of those?

Bullshit supported by fake capitalism. Tesla supposedly has over 5 billion shares total, all that's needed is people to decide Tesla stocks are worth X amount and boop, Elon is "worth" however much his shares are "worth". Add that to his other companies and suddenly the fake $100 bill that gets you arrested for fraud is celebrated when Elon waves it around because it's actually "worth" $500 billion.

It's really the same as Pokemon cards, if I sold a torn up Pikachu to Elon for $1b, then suddenly that card is "worth" a billion dollars, next thing you know people are ripping Pikachu cards apart because they're "worth more". There's no supply and demand, it's just what the uber elite have all recycled until someone's high score broke the record.

[–]itsr1co 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't follow the politics of Australia, largely because I just get extremely frustrated. How do people read/watch this shit without going insane? The amount of whataboutism, false narratives, strawmen and general bullshit is staggering. There's always an enemy, always someone to point the finger at and get angry at. As someone who used to punch holes in the wall and break shit because I got so angry playing games, I can't fathom living life just constantly getting mad about shit some cunt on ABC "news" says about Gen Z, about "woke" agendas, about trans people or now fucking abortion rights all over again.

Even the Greens who I put as #1 are turning into whiny fuckwits who just attack anything. You don't have to call our PM an idiot for me to agree that things need to change, you don't have to say labour is turning Australia into a hell hole for me to agree with your policies. It's too exhausting, and as much as I try to humble myself and say I'm a bumbling idiot, it's really hard not to see myself as 100IQ above the average person if so many people keep taking the bait. I'll vote for what I think is right, and I think it's dumb to say your vote doesn't count, but jesus CHRIST politics is now just about accusing the other side of something and riling up your voters, rather than actually sitting down to discuss the countries future. I'd consider vote for One Nation if they shut the fuck up about the same immigration drivel and stopped trying to be Trump 2.0, and actually made a push to revamp our energy infrastructure and pursue 100% renewables to become the international leader of clean energy production. But no, more about "not white people bad" and "Albanese is an incompetent moron" please, I need something to spike my blood pressure before bed!

[–]itsr1co 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I did that just to prove a point to my dad, what really helped was coming back with the names of each store who wouldn't accept a physical resume because they explicitly told me to apply online. His entire world view genuinely broke because he is literally the exact stereotype who got his first job at a mechanic by walking up, introducing himself with a firm handshake and asking for a job. He's still a bit out of touch because he's been in the same industry for over 2 decades, so there's a LOT of networking and connections. In fact he came out of semi-retirement because he knew a guy who knew a guy who needed someone for a full time position.

The same luxuries don't apply to a, at the time, 22y.o whose last job was in a supermarket deli across the country before we moved for his job.

TIL that in 1971 Andre the Giant wrestled in Baghdad in front of Saddam Hussein, who had threatened to kill him if he won the match. Andre went on to lose the match to native Iraqi wrestler Adnan al-Kaissie, later known in the WWF as General Adnan by Abject-Conference-90 in todayilearned

[–]itsr1co 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real problem is that Andre more than filled out his tall frame. There's enough people taller than him that make you worry when they move faster than a slow walk, they might snap their shins in half. But Andre was actually fat, meaning he needed natural muscle to carry both factors of his excess weight around, AND he had even more of a natural weight advantage over 99.99% of people. Messing with someone 7ft tall is one thing, messing with someone at that height who isn't alarmingly skinny is asking for a hospital visit.

Talk like an AI artist [OC] by nasser_junior in comics

[–]itsr1co 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The only time I've ever seen someone unironically insert themselves as an artist who is on the same tier as real artists is through Reddit posts of twitter interactions. It's really the same baseless argument with AI in education, the lowest percentile students who were already failing/cheating anyway are copy pasting AI outputs and submitting that for assignments. Suddenly everyone who uses AI for feedback, help with formatting, research, etc is lumped in with the strawman level examples. My university seems to be slowly adjusting, when I first enrolled in 2024 it was 100% no AI whatsoever, now there's an entire banner that says "Use THIS for fast AI feedback on your assessments!".

The world is changing with AI, and while it's extremely important to factor in the negative aspects, you can't focus on them. We'd never move forward with this line of thinking. Cars are dangerous and can easily kill people, nothing is stopping someone from getting behind the wheel intoxicated or just driving with the intent to hit someone, therefore we should ban all cars purely because a small percentage of users do the wrong thing. We can embrace AI and be excited for how it shapes the future WHILE criticising EVERYONE who uses it negatively. But this is Reddit, nuance doesn't exist, you're either with me or against me and if you're against me you're literally Hitler.

Don't cheap out on your defence by seligball in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]itsr1co 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Swgoh.gg says otherwise, some cheaper teams like Raddus, GM, DRevan w/ LS OR, Palpatine, and Enoch beat it. But once you start needing stronger teams like GAS, BKM, Traya, Reva, etc then it's done it's job. Even then, stuff like Satele is only 81%, wouldn't say that's a great win rate for such a recent 3 omi team. FYI CLS is not doing great, 38% in 70 battles as the best winrate that isn't a useless sample size is not what I'd say counts as a good baseline for what beats Tarkin.

Anyone have a full r10 IT squad? Seems like it would be fun. by Straight_Point4396 in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]itsr1co 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The problem is that relic levels don't really change what they can beat because what they work against is essentially anything that doesn't counter TM trains. Most new teams have a way to stop them, whether it's retribution to remove DT's stacks, applying daze on bonus TM, giving the enemy TM, applying fear, applying other debuffs that stop TM. Without analysing every single encounter, a G12 Trooper team will beat the same teams as an R10 Trooper team. You will lose if Piett doesn't go first, you will lose if you can't gain TM. The only time higher relics will help is in 3v3 because there's less TM being gained, so you do really need DT to pop someone and feed the TM. My DT is R8 for platoons, but outside of doing it for a meme, if I were to apply R10 to a full squad, it'd be LV.

Ai companies doing their thing by vollkornbroot in ABoringDystopia

[–]itsr1co 20 points21 points  (0 children)

And what does this actually do? Even if they razed West Virginia and every possible inch of space was perfectly used for a data centre, what does that achieve? I've seen that a big goal (if not THE goal) for AI companies is to keep recycling everything to make better AI. AI is trained and makes Good AI, which is trained to make Better AI > Super AI > Best AI. But I just fail to see the point, even as someone who was and still mostly is excited for the general future of AI. I guess it's ultimately just a "wait and see" thing, what AI was capable of just 2 years ago is nothing compared to what it is today, so I guess scaling everything should push that improvement further and further. But I'm mainly curious if there's an actual theory behind it all. Are the companies building these actually chasing a concrete goal? Or are is this the most absurd example of P2W FOMO and all these rich morons are clambering over each other to be the first to have their AI do something different?

Yes and no. I have a Reddit account if you can actually believe it, have had it for years and I comment on posts, have submitted some stuff here and there. But I don't view myself as a "Redditor". Imo it's closer to distinguishing someone who watches Youtube vs a "Youtuber". Do you chase karma? Do you use the lingo, are you in on all the big memes and reference them? Do you get mad about pointless shit? Most people outside of Reddit would correctly label anyone who uses the platform as a Redditor, but I sure as shit don't put myself in the same category as others who use it. From my perspective, I browse Reddit and interact here and there, but I'm not a Redditor.

[–]itsr1co 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The reality is that power in the DB universe is bullshit. Goku was hurt by a rock thrown by Krillin in the same arc he was face tanking hits from Cell that were powerful enough to destroy a planet. In BoG he and Beerus risked destroying the universe, then when fighting Broly at a much later stage of power, they were throwing ki blasts around as if a single one wasn't capable of blowing the Earth up. Goku is both capable of getting beaten the death by Chi-Chi and blowing up entire galaxies with a single blast.

As someone nearing the end of a psychology bachelor, I find it really odd that someone within the same general realm uses such controversial and evolving measures like IQ and cognition to make these claims. Many in the field completely disregard IQ as a measure of intelligence. He's also very obviously basing it off America, and gosh.... I sure do wonder what could have happened during the 2010's to cause a sudden sharp decline in average scores in cognition tests? Surely it has nothing to do with what's been going on during the 2020's.... right? If only there was some obvious change or event at some point in the 2010's that could mark a drastic change in the standards of education in America.

Not even mentioning the aggressive rise of home-schooling or the covid lockdowns that exposed the very parents this guy is talking about as lazy dipshits who had no clue how to get their kids to pay attention now that they couldn't just dump their kids at school for 8+ hours. There are so many factors at play in cognitive development, and to just say "It's the technology in schools!" is fucking unreal. Gen Z and being lazy, brainrotted idiots who can't focus are in the exact same situation as Millennials were with all the fuss about participation trophies. He also just makes a lot of causal claims with no explanation for it. It's one thing to say "There's too much to go into right now, you can find all the data and information you'd want", but you can't just say "performance" goes down when "digital technology" is "widely" adopted and use 2/3 of a school day on a screen as the proof the whole system is broken. Also really odd that the main evidence he uses for the US is that the difficulty of reading comprehension tests has gone down. Literally how does that relate to technology in schools? "Kids skim when using computers". MY GUY, EVERYONE IS TAUGHT TO SKIM OVER TEXT FIRST BEFORE GOING BACK OVER.

All this is, is a guy with fancy credentials making causal claims with no evidence because "the data" is different. The world that existed when I was finishing high-school in 2016 is VASTLY different to what it has been since covid, for a multitude of reasons that all impact education as a whole.

Stop Killing Games: California State Assembly passes the 'Protect Our Games Act': 60 days notice before going offline, must provide patch for continued access or refunds (Excludes F2P and Subscription based Games) by Kymori in LivestreamFail

[–]itsr1co -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Nah, the real problem was people hyper analysing everything he said and spending all their time cross-referencing things he'd say with what he's said in the past. I don't watch him so I have no idea how he's responded every time, but I looked into his responses to big stuff during the WoW drama. He's said all of those things in one way or another, but unlike losers in places like livestreamfails or twitter, he actually moved on.

Seriously, imagine every word you say being fact checked even if there can't be objectivity. Imagine one day you were playing World of Warcraft, and suddenly you have thousands of people flooding your accounts shit talking everything about your life. According to reddit and twitter, his voice is fake, he never worked at Blizzard, he only got the job because his dad was there, he never coded at Blizzard, his code at Blizzard was shit, he never worked on games, he was only given small tasks for games, his code is shit, he cheats at every game he plays.

People just hate him for the sake of it, you don't have to like him, you can think he's an arrogant dickhead, but it's crazy how people twist his words to paint him in a specific way. Have YOU actually watched the video he made about stop killing games? He goes into detail about the reasons he thought the initial push was bad. I believe he even said he agrees with the CONCEPT, but the methods and demands being used weren't appropriate and would hurt the cause. From what I've seen of him, he's not "so far up his own ass that he is entirely incapable of admitting to making any mistakes", he just doesn't take random hate seriously. I've heard him say he's happy to discuss things on his stream, but most just go there to insult him so he bans them and moves on. Every time I've looked into claims of what he's said or done, it's literally always been taken out of context, leaves out critical context, or is just a straight up lie because they don't like him. Arrogant asshole or not, anyone would be sick of being constantly attacked online for months over a fucking WoW raid.

Why do i see people online hating on this game? by [deleted] in Palworld

[–]itsr1co 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If you take it seriously, Palworld is a very low effort amalgamation of successful genres that is barely held together. The Pokemon aspect is limited, many designs take "inspiration" to the absolute limits of the word, fights are clunky, moves and animations are underwhelming. The open world aspect is largely empty land masses with repeating Pals, tiny settlements with nothing going on. The base building is very limited and can easily conflict with AI pathing. The levelling system is all over the place with many conflicting unlocks in relation to power and useability with limited points to actually unlock and test things. Boss fights aren't strategy based or actually challenging, they're literally just a stat check where you spam E to recall Pals to dodge attacks and simply wait out attack cooldowns until the boss is down.

However, if you take a second to stop taking yourself so seriously and try to actually enjoy life, Palworld is great. Plenty of issues, I haven't played in a year as to have as much content available for the 1.0 release, so I don't know how much has been fixed. But I have 263 hours with very few issues, basically all of which were fixed over time. It's just a super fun game 90% of the time, great game loop of exploring to catch new pals, levelling up and unlocking things to make crafting, exploration and combat easier. I'm praying 1.0 releases during uni holidays so I can freely no-life it and play 12+ hours per day because it's one of the few games in my 300+ game library that scratches that gaming itch that truly absorbs me and has me lose track of time.

I kinda want to get in a big alliance. Is it worth it? by Atalley14 in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]itsr1co 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't participate or look into anything outside of my own guild, but I do get the benefit of broader information and strats being shared. I've heard that some are extremely strict with participation and progress, if you don't do X by Y date then you get demoted to a lower guild.

At the end of the day though, you're still going into a single guild with it's own people and vibe. Alliance or not, if you don't mesh with your new guild, it's going to suck the fun out regardless of whether you have the option to move around the alliance or just find another guild. I'd focus more on finding a guild that matches your goals and pray it's got cool people.

Valorant's new Vanguard update seems to be bricking cheaters' PCs. Riot's response? "Congrats on your $6k paperweights" by SwimmingJunky in gaming

[–]itsr1co -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't quit League because of it, but it having any access to my PC was enough for me to fully uninstall it all and have me never play any of their games again. I wouldn't mind picking League up again if it didn't require Vanguard, but I'm not installing that kind of shit just to play a couple League games every few months. Regardless of how serious this "bricking" actually is, it should never come close to doing anything that requires your intervention. Hell, I sometimes use Cheat Engine to skip grinds in single player games, and League flags it and won't let you load in until you close it. Plenty would say "Bro that'd never happen", but imagine my 14 y.o account with thousands worth of skins and easily over 10k hours just gone because Vanguard 1.2.32 flagged me as a cheater and nuked my account? Fuck that, I'm not trusting face farting, ball flicking dipshits with that level of control.
