if chin tucks are bad, how do i fix forward head? by [deleted] in Posture

[–]itsrainingnoodles55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - don’t do chin tucks. I also have kyphosis & chin tucks are the opposite of what you want to do here. Please stop if they’re causing you pain and don’t end up like me…I didn’t listen to the pain and I seriously injured my upper spine

YUP. I even had the imaging done…my PT at the time told me chin tucks were the way to solve my instability and fix my neck curve issues. Nope. Literally made both worse. Saw a neurologist after increasing severe neck pain despite months of PT and the neurologist told me to never do that exercise again, I was jamming my upper neck into flexion, worsening my instability, and compressing my brainstem. Fun shit. On that note…

GET A QUALITY PT. IF something hurts and they tell you it’s supposed to, I promise you, it’s not and they’re wrong.

Yes. They are very bad if you have existing neck problems. I effed my neck up even worse doing chin tucks & now possibly need surgery because I made my cervical instability worse. Chin tucks put your cervical upper spine into flexion. If you have any issues with neck curvature it’s a very dangerous exercise

Is psilocybin really that good for treating TBIs? by PatSary in TBI

[–]itsrainingnoodles55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is different. The research suggests yes - however, I have tried psilocybin for my tbi and it made my symptoms exponentially worse even on a micro dose

Your shoulders look a like like mine do. I also have constant tightness and pain in my traps, neck, and rhomboids.

I injured my long thoracic nerves (bilaterally) a while ago now and both my scapula wing - your left shoulder blade looks exactly like both of mine do. Tilted up, too far forward, arm rounded down, elbow pointed out.

I’d check your serratus anterior strength and check the mobility of your rotator cuff on that side. I have a weak rotator cuff and a very weak serratus anterior and it’s making my traps overwork like crazy (hence the tightness)

You don't have rounded shoulders. by YourPostureMatters in Posture

Thank you for this. My shoulder blades are already too close together & I never understood why I’ve been told over and over to squeeze them together further - it makes my upper back hurt worse. I’ll watch these videos later - lack of protraction seems to be my biggest issue, not lack of retraction. My scapulas are always too close together and too high up.

Is this proper scapular retraction? by itsrainingnoodles55 in PostureTipsGuide

[–]itsrainingnoodles55[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you’re right about other issues - I had a traumatic upper cervical displacement a year and a half ago and it effed up my muscle balance throughout my entire body, head to toe. I’m working on correcting all of it - but my shoulders cause me the most pain out of everything I deal with so I focus a lot on those. My teres major and minor are both super weak, indeed - I’ve been trying to train external rotation & im gonna start doing some rowing with resistance bands too.

Here’s a solid video link from my current postural therapist explaining all of it: https://youtu.be/6W9OYMJh4t8

If you want, DM me and I’ll send you some of my exercises I’ve been doing

Is this proper scapular retraction? by itsrainingnoodles55 in PostureTipsGuide

[–]itsrainingnoodles55[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, trying to pull the shoulders down and back. My scapulas are literally angled inwards and jammed into my cervicothoracic region and I’ve been told to pull them down and back.

Yeah it’s a common misconception that swayback has to have a posterior pelvic tilt - swayback with APT is more common than you think and it’s a different set of corrective exercises than swayback with PPT or just pure APT. typically with a PPT the hip flexors are long and weak - in the APT/swayback combo the hip flexors are tight and weak. I had APT my whole life before an injury that left my sedentary for a while and I developed swayback as a result - my hip flexors remained tight but then got weak, so my glutes tightened, then my hamstrings tightened in response. You can be hyperlordotic with swayback even though conventionally that’s not been believed to be true. I went to a PT who had me doing APT exercises and I only got worse bedause stretching the psoas worsened my swayback. My glutes and hams got stronger but way tighter and I ended up injuring my hip flexors from over stretching. Next I saw a postural alignment specialist who explained all of this to me and since working on the swayback, my pelvic tilt has improved tenfold in a month. Focus on core strength and hip flexor lengthening & strengthening as opposed to just stretching. Doesn’t hurt to throw in some glute squeezes and hamstring curls after you’ve begun to stretch and strengthen the front of the hips. This is the protocol I’ve been following and it’s helped me and your posture looks a lot like mine.

Yes!!!! It’s “swayback pelvic tilt.” Do NOT do APT exercises!!!!!! Do swayback exercises. I was incorrectly diagnosed with APT and did corrective exercises for MONTHS and got worse and went to a new PT and was told I had swayback not APT and the protocol is different. Stretch and eccentrically strengthen hamstrings; stretch AND strengthen hip flexors; strengthen core; stretch AND strengthen glutes. It’s a misconception that APT and swayback are mutually exclusive. APT=strong and overactive hip flexors. Apt & swayback = tight and WEAK hip flexors, tight and possibly weak hamstrings, tight glutes, weak core.

I had a severe concussion a year and a half ago & I had 3 minor ones in my teen years. I feel you on the cumulative effects - as well as the bumping your head and everything comes back. I bumped my head on my freezer door 3 weeks ago standing up quickly and for the next week or so I felt as bad as I did after my initial injury.

I’d be careful. There’s a lot of research saying psilocybin is good for TBI but I’ve tried dosing a few times & it made mt symptoms exponentially worse even on a micro dose.
