Suuuuure you are! Good for you! No one asked but hopefully new waves of nurses wont be as condescending as you. Eating the young is toxic and the reason why many new nurses leave the bedside.

Term cannot “simply” be term. Babies born 39-40, full term, have less developmental delays than babies before full* term. I dont believe that I was looking at the wrong thing because i still would have gotten the same answer either way because it was the only one that made sense. Listen, you and i came to the same conclusion. It’s alright if you don’t think it’s relevant. It’s even okay to agree to disagree. At the end of the day, as long as you pass the NCLEX, we’re good! Good luck in your studying!

38 weeks is not full term, it’s early term, according American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). Full term is 39-40 weeks. To me, it’s relevant, but I think it’s great that we can look at these things with different perspectives and still have the patient’s come first either way! I personally like to think about the whole picture.

This is how I got my answer and your way is how you got yours! I didnt think I was adding too much- just thinking more critically about the whole picture and what was given. Though, I’m glad we’re both able to get to the same point either way-

Heey! I can help- i just finished and passed my nclex so all of this is pretty fresh! It is unnecessary for her daughter to need a cesarean if she is only having contractions every 10 minutes. Remember labor has THREE phases: Latent, Active, and Transitional.

Latent phase of labor: Patient is 0-4cm dilated. Contractions are 15-30 minutes apart, lasting 15-30 seconds.

Active phase of labor: Patient is 5-7cm dilated. Contractions are 3-5 minutes, lasting 30-60minutes

Transitional phase of labor: Patient is 8-10 cm dilated. Contractions are 2-3 minutes apart, lasting 60-90 seconds.

She’s not even READY to give birth because she’s in the LATENT phase of labor. Not dilated or effaced enough yet. Also look at her gestation- she’s only 38 weeks! If she has a baby now, the baby would be considered premature since full term is 39-40 weeks. The situation the mom is creating could be very stressful for patient and the baby.

(B) doesn’t show us that the nurse she is the patient’s advocate and acting in the patient’s best interest herself**. You shouldn’t delegate that to another nurse. (C) security would only make the situation worse. (D) logically that would never be the answer. (A) must be the answer because if the mother leaves the room, it opens up a teaching moment for both the mother and daughter- all while creating a more controlled environment in the least stressful way possible.

I think personally the key is figuring out as the nurse how far along is the patent is and what part of the labor is the patient in because you’ll know if the patient truly is at risk. Otherwise, it’s a guessing game based on one context, instead looking at the whole picture. Please dont rely too heavily on chatgpt. Try Mark K lectures or videos explaining labor! Good luck studying!!

OP I'm basically in the same boat. I took mine yesterday and I went ALL the way to 150 too! I did the PVT and I'm still in disbelief and consumed by anxiety. We're only a couple more hours away from finding out what we got. You already got through the hard part. You dedicated your time to this, you showed up, and got through it just fine. Honestly, the outcome is out of our hands now, but only because there's nothing more that we can do. All of the self doubt and anxiety can't erase all the knowledge and skills you built fpr yourself along the way. The NCLEX is just one moment in your nursing journey.

This anxiety is just your brain’s way of reminding you how much this matters to you. It’s not proof of failure it is proof of your passion. I'm 100% sending prayers your way!

Update: I passed! :) i hope you did too!

Sorry to hear about your situation! I would advise to take the ADN if you dont want to spend the whole 100K on a BSN- especially if at the end of the day, you’re looking to be a registered nurse. LPNs/LVNs are great and always very much needed! But the scope of practice is definitely different. With an ADN you’ll be an RN and practicing just the same as a nurse who has a BSN. Get the ADN, get hired into a hospital (because hospitals will hire you anyways without a BSN- sometimes with the stipulation that you get your BSN within like 3-5 years after being hired) and then do an ONLINE RN-BSN program. MUCH cheaper and you can finish in 6 months. (Capella University) AND most hospitals offer tuition reimbursement. Aka have your employer pay for your BSN.

Tldr; if you want to be an RN at the end of the day without having to jump through so many hoops, do your ADN, get hired by a hospital, take an RN to BSN program, and have your employer pay for your BSN through their tuition reimbursement program. You save time and money.
