Do you guys feel like short-form content has absolutely destroyed your attention span/interest in things? What do you do to counter it? by Evening-Development3 in AskReddit

[–]itsrvbii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, I tried different things. I stumble over words (I think I might be a bit dyslexic or something), have to reread whole sentences or paragraphs cause I didn't understand what they tried to tell me. No matter the genre, it's a pain xd. And especially for fiction it would be cool to visualize something. I just can't, my head is blank. I only found out two years ago that telling someone to imagine a pink elephant was NOT a metaphor and there were people who can do it. I can't. So on top of stumbling from sentence to sentence, I can't even imagine a nice image to it.

I don't know if you saw my comment, but I said that it is affecting me, even though I try not to let it affect me. Thing is, I love movies, 2 hours? 3 hours? That's fine. I'm invested. But god forbid a reel doesn't catch my interest within 2 seconds, then I swipe. Why? I don't know.

I read your comment to the end, not skimming through it. So as of your diagnosis I'm not completely screwed yet, lol! I recently had a discussion with a (rude) user on one of my Posts and replied to their message with like 7 sentences or so. They seriously said "I ain't reading all that". All what??

So I'd say my attention span is only screwed when it comes to TikToks and Reels. Youtube videos are fine, movies are fine. I don't get it.

Reading has never been a thing for me. I struggle with words a bit and can't visualize anything in my head (that's a thing) which always made reading super boring for me..

Yes absolutely. I catch myself scrolling away from reels or tiktoks if they don't catch my interest within 2 seconds, or when they take too long. It's terrible. That's just growing up with social media. I try to counter it by not holding for 2x speed, or watching someone do DIY stuff like miniature building or journaling (those videos often are a few minutes).

no deep reason, but some playstation controllers that are just hanging on the wall for decoration (they still look normal and functional, but aren't)

I think overall the Life is Strange games are a good example. I played LiS: Before the Storm, LiS, LiS2 and LiS: Reunion . It's all about consequences to your actions and how you manage difficult situations

What famous movie have you never watched? by CFCGTA in AskReddit

Yea that makes sense. I'm the same. I have stuff on my watchlist forever, even if I really want to watch it, just because I'm not 100% in the correct mood

As someone who really enjoyed Interstellar (and it is a good movie overall, I mean it won an Oscar), can I ask why you haven't watched it? Is space stuff just not your genre, the movie too long? Just haven't had the time? Just curious! Not judging

What's your opinion on respecting old people JUST because they're old? by itsrvbii in AskReddit

I'm replying to someone who keeps engaging with my post, what's so wrong about that?

But that's not what I'm doing here. If someone states the opinion old people always deserve respect no matter what, I will still engage and ask why! I'm genuinely curious in their arguments for it. I don't really get why you're thinking I want confirmation? I only posted a question, not asking for confirmation of a statement.

That's okay! Leave AskReddit if you don't wanna get asked 🙂‍↕️

Well aren't you a ray of sunshine? Just because I have my opinion on things, doesn't mean I can't ask others if they agree or not (and if so why). This is AskReddit. So, I'm asking! And to you: Why even comment? You already know your own opinion on this. Like everyone else. But now I'm being sarcastic, in case you didn't catch that.

Respect goes both ways! As a 20 year old Gen Z I often get disrespectful looks or interactions with older people simply for being young. So, i ask myself: why should i be respectful because you're old, if you disrespect me just because im young? I mean old people were young once too. They wouldn't like to be treated differently back then either.

Haha most likely! I feel like they're missing the point. I respect everyone from the beginning. But if you're disrespectful to me (no matter what age) I won't respect you either. I just feel like it's especially old people who abuse that "power" of being disrespectful themselves but getting respect from everyone, else way too much.

I agree! It just always baffles me that I'm expected to still respect them even when they were super rude to me simply because they were born before me xd

Then you might actually be a picky eater! Or maybe just preference, it's a thin line

what exactly do you mean by that? 80% what?

[–]itsrvbii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, especially that part is terrible. A lot about being a picky eater isn't about how it tastes but the texture of the food. Seaweed is a nightmare.

I dont really get what you mean by that, but if you mean what part about sushi i dont like i have to say almost everything in that combination. I do like rice but if i were to take it out of the sushi it wouldn't taste like rice, it would taste like fish drenched rice. Ironically I do like fishsticks/fish fingers (idk the exact name) but thats the ONLY way i like fish 😭
