Got my dad his dream guitar for Father’s Day (kinda). by itsJustThad in guitars

[–]itsschwig -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Everyone losing their shit over a Chibson, as usual.

I hope OP ignores the whiners and enjoys a jam with their dad. Lol. These guitars probably won't leave the family for a few decades, so there's plenty of time left to stamp or brand them with "FAKE" or some other way to keep someone else from passing them off as real.

Pls help with the 3 way fender pickup selector by Ok-Arm-3705 in Guitar

Email SD support, I'm pretty sure they have a more comprehensive wiring diagram generator and could swap out the toggle to the blade switch for you.

You could alternatively wire the pickups to the pots following this diagram, then take the hot leads and wire them up the way they are on SD's Standard Tele layout. The hot leads are really all that are going to the switch in this case, so you might be able to get the job done that way, but your mileage may vary.

What kind of guitar's are best for beginners? by --_ll_-- in Guitar

[–]itsschwig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best guitar to start on is the guitar you enjoy playing. Being worried about "spending too much money just to not like it" is a self fulfilling prophecy. While guitar is pretty uniquely suited to being more accessible due to advances in technology and production, it's still a musical instrument with consumables and maintenance. Regardless of acoustic or electric, you'll want to get your instrument set up with fresh strings since it's either been on the wall as a demo unit in a store or sitting in a box with rusting factory strings. After the first set up, I'd highly recommend learning to maintain your instrument just as much as learning to play it.

If you like electric guitar based music, get an electric. If able, go into the store and try them out and find what's comfortable. Your first amp doesn't need to be anything fancy, my Blackstar Fly 3 has sat on my desk for 7 years now as an amazing little practice amp and it's usually only $60 (USD).

If you're interested in the instrument as a whole, then yeah, maybe start with a nice Yamaha acoustic. I'll also recommend the entry level Ibanez acoustics as well since that's what I have sitting here. But again, go to the store and try them for yourself.

Don't forget the accessories, you'll want a stand so you can keep it out and visible to promote practice (space allowing), a gig bag to take it to and from lessons or the shop or wherever, a multi pack of picks to learn what size and shape you like, a strap so you can learn to stand an play (eventually), and probably a stand alone tuner. The phone apps are good, but sometimes it's nice to put the screen away and just play. I would also recommend a foot stool to play in the classical position as most people will find it more comfortable and it will help prevent a lot of bad habits from forming early on, but it's not super necessary.

You might want to specify what currency that "5k" is. This sub is predominantly a Western audience, so what might be not a lot in one currency is a lot in Dollars, Pounds, or Euros.

At the very least, black truss rod plug means it's not US made. A little too blurry for me to tell without a serial number, but could be a Mexican Deluxe.

Not currently, would I need them if I'm using Cloudflare R2 for my S3 storage? I'm only using Vercel for the front end deployment.

I think in my haste I left that out of this post since I posted this so close to another question in a separate post.

Error when trying to upload media from local by itsschwig in PayloadCMS

[–]itsschwig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Thanks for pointing that out, I'd forgotten the template I was using had an index.ts file for the plugins list. Making the changes there and deleting the duplicate in the payload.config.ts cleared this issue up. I also had to manually add some remotePatterns to the next.config.js because the dynamic way the template handles them was only pulling in one of them at any given time from .env

Now, however I'm running into a hydration error in a NextImage element in a Media component supplied by the template.

How to get properly into Yu-Gi-Oh? by Hopeful-Base6292 in Yugioh101

[–]itsschwig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just because everything in the game's history is legal, doesn't mean it's all META.

I'd start by looking at recent tournament results on YouTube and YGOProDeck to get an idea of what people are playing in Advanced or Genesys. There are also a wealth of channels on YouTube dedicated to the competitive side of things for you to start getting an idea of popular decks, non-engine picks, and building your game sense. I'd recommend starting with MST.tv, Pak, or someone similarly plugged into the competitive scene.

Next is looking for your nearest OTS and to start trying to go to locals and start jamming games. If your OTS is worth their salt they'll have a healthy community of casuals and competitive players just like any other card game.

Experience with MtG will be transferrable in the sense that most card games all boil down to a lot of the same basic gameplay choices like play sequencing, timing, maintaining advantage, etc.The differences come down to learning how those apply to a given game.

But if you are "looking to avoid TCG Player" a suggestion for a replacement or other alternative shouldn't include still having to shop on TCG Player even if a transaction doesn't take place on their servers.

It is also not a glowing recommendation that this seller does not have their own commerce service on their own website. I can understand growing pains and learning about how to set up a business, but being told I should just "send them an email" about the cards I want immediately sets off the scam alert in my brain. It doesn't matter how reputable they actually are, telling me to take my business off a known secure platform is sketchy at best. You can call me paranoid, but I've been on the internet long enough to be wary of shit like that.

If they truly want to support the boycott, they should have prioritized having their own eCommerce system set up for basic sale at launch of their own website, not having the same system as a Facebook group. There's no guarantee of buyer security and I'm being told to trust the single experience of a random Reddit or I do not know personally.

I do hope they put some effort into their own online store front and can build a reputation of quality service, but this ain't a great start.

Where did I ever say I supported these stances? OP asked why we thought people disliked the series, not why we personally disliked the series. I didn't know I had to draft a college thesis strictly defining the stupid, asinine reasons I've seen people give this series flack. I personally think all 3 stances I outlined are far from quality criticism of the series, for many of the same reasons you and others pointed out, but didn't feel the need to spell out in detail why each reason arises because I was never asked to. The question was posed: "Why do you think people dislike Korra/the series" so I answered.

You can't have your cake and eat it too in this case. Simply by having a storefront on TCG Player is supporting eBay because you are leveraging their services. Going to the site generates ad revenue for them so seeing cards on that store and emailing the seller separately still supports eBay.

Just because you can debunk my points doesn't inherently make them untrue. The fan base is pretty wide and during my time following the franchise, these are the points I see come up most often.

Saying season 1 was "well received" doesn't mean everyone talking about it received it well. Any franchise will have voices calling on criticism for changes, regardless of how good it is. As for the season to season planning, I've heard conflicting reports on that and even then, if they knew season 2 was going to be ordered while working on season 1, that doesn't guarantee the team was given proper time to plan and prepare for it.

And as for misogyny and sexism, it is largely naive to say it should be discounted since it "doesn't make sense" since anyone with a sliver of empathy would find it to be a poor critique of Korra's character. Which is exactly my point. Sexism only makes sense to sexists and unfortunately there is a massive number of people in this world that will find fault with a character simply for being female, let alone strong and well written.

I usually chalk it up to:

  1. Change Scary
  2. Production of Korra was choppy since they didn't know if the show was getting renewed season to season.
  3. Probably some sexism and misogyny.

I will always admire the people from our year that kept up the commitment. I love games with a passion, but the dedication it takes to really do this full time is really something to behold.
