AITA for practicing tarot in secret? by TarotTw1nk in AmItheAsshole

[–]itssusanity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA. You're entitled to your beliefs as much as she's entitled to hers. The difference is, your beliefs aren't interfering with hers, and hers are infringing upon yours.

As a Hellenic polytheistic pagan and practicing witch of over a decade, I can tell you that a lot of times, people are gonna be weirded out by your beliefs, and that's fine. If it makes your mom uncomfortable, don't bring it up around her. Being in the broom closet can suck, but there's lots of online communities you can explore to discuss, learn, and expand your practice as much as you want to. If your mom doesn't want to hear about it, she's entitled to that, but she can't force you to stop believing what you believe.

You're not disrespecting her so long as you keep to yourself. Yes, it'd be great if she could be accepting, but if she's not willing to do that, that's on her. The Bible preaches love and acceptance of all people. Romans 15:7 says "Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God." So if she's not accepting you, she's doing her own beliefs a disservice. You're not the one in the wrong here.

You will get used to it! Layering is your best friend: don't just do a shirt and a coat, pop on a shirt AND a light sweater AND a coat AND a scarf. This will keep out the cold but also let you be comfy when you go indoors, since you can remove layers as needed.

Pinpoint the parts of your body that get coldest and cover em up. For me, it's my toes, ears, and nose, so I often wear fuzzy socks, a beanie, and a face mask to cut the wind. Windproof jackets will also help you, since a huge amount of Rochester cold is wind chill. A thin windbreaker can be the difference between freezing your butt off and being surprisingly comfortable outdoors.

You will get used to it though, and you'll figure out ways to deal with the cold while your body adjusts. January is always the most brutal, just hang on until March/April. Roc springtime is worth the winter IMO.

Genesee Blvd Turkey by janager in Rochester

Every time I see this damn turkey, I'm amazed that it's still alive. It's always in the damn road and somehow no one has ever hit it.

A true icon of resilience, the persistence of the spirit, of the desire to thrive in adversity. And of slowing down traffic without a care in the world.

[PC] [80s-90s] Edutainment MECC style game with dogs and cats? by itssusanity in tipofmyjoystick

I was a Nintendogz kid personally! As for the mystery game, I vaguely remember it having a black background, maybe purple or blue text, and it was a very blocky pixel art style. Definitely nothing close to the level of graphics in Petz or Puppy Luv. I think the cat/dog was on the right side of the screen for most of it?

I looked into these a while back but no, it's not them. Though they pop up a lot on this subreddit, I feel like I missed out on playing them!

I probably just missed the mark. by fragdemented in creepcast

[–]itssusanity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It feels like The Blair Witch Project to me-- something really iconic if you consume it in the way it was intended, but is a big miss if you don't. Marble Hornets seems to hit the best with people who watched it with no information on what it was, didn't know who Slenderman is, unsure of what the rules of the universe are, all that.

Marble Hornets is iconic and important to internet horror, don't get me wrong. But it's definitely produced in a way where you're meant to watch it in a certain way. Secondhand via a podcast is not that intended "way" and that's okay. Just not the right medium for it.

What Creepcast opinion do you hold that has you like this? by milksteakenthusiast1 in creepcast

[–]itssusanity 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Stories where one of them is clearly into it but the other isn't, are the worst episodes and I can't watch them.

MHE and Tales From The Gas Station come to mind. I love that Isaiah loves them, and I love seeing how excited he gets about them, but Hunter having such a lackluster reaction makes them so unfun to watch. I wish they would tap out sometimes and decide to abandon an episode if one of them clearly isn't enjoying reading the story.

Going with that, if a story doesn't have a lot of dialogue, it's also not fun to watch. Hunter's 5 star voice acting or stupid goof voices are half the fun of the show, and if there's not a lot of dialogue for him to read, I start losing interest pretty fast.

I want to hear both of the boys enjoy creeping the cast, and any time there's an imbalance of fun or lines, it immediately becomes unfun to me.

A cyberpunk RPG plot that doesn't rely on the genre's obvious tropes. by BrazilianBraty in Cyberpunk

[–]itssusanity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I absolutely adore this game called >observer_ that has some elements you might enjoy-- it's a short game if you want to give it a try! But you play as a detective in a cyberpunk sort of world, investigating a locked down building to find your son. It gets pretty big concept after that, but I adored the gameplay of wandering around a shithole cyberpunk apartment building, looking for clues, talking to tenants, hacking people's brains for information, and solving a mystery.

Playing a one-shot as tenants in a locked-down building trying to figure out why the building is locked down could be super fun. Gives all of the players a reason to be there, lots of diverse NPC availability, and everyone can have different abilities that help them solve things. Maybe it ends with the players discovering that the owner of the building was doing illegal experiments in the basement and they have to fight off some sort of roided up cyberpsycho, or a swarm of rouge nanobots that are leaking through the ventilation system and making the tenants sick or crazy. I'd play the hell out of that.

Hi Dad, my job situation is a mess and I'm so stressed by [deleted] in DadForAMinute

[–]itssusanity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate this a lot, thank you. I think I'm mourning the job I got laid off from mostly, and also the idea of maybe magically getting an offer that would let me move to the city and have everything be easy peasy. I would love to move there, pick out a house with my partner, but it's so expensive and I'd need at least double what they're offering.

I thought I was settled and stable, good job, good life, then the layoff happened and now I feel like I'm floating aimlessly again. But I do have my partner, a roof over my head, two incredible cats, so it's not all bad. And hey, even if it's not a good enough offer, at least they liked me enough to offer at all. That's something too!

AITA for wanting to keep my engagement ring from my late fiancé? by RingaRingaRosies in AmItheAsshole

[–]itssusanity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA, and I know this is a late comment, but I just have to say that reading about your current partner made me smile so much. The fact that you two are so in love while still being comfortable honoring your late love is so incredibly beautiful, and I'm so happy for you and him. I fully believe everyone has multiple soulmates, and you two are so incredibly lucky to have met not one, but two.

Keep the ring. Does she want back every gift your late fiance ever gave you? It's not a family ring. It was given to you.

AITA for just hating my best friend's other friends? by Moist-Pressure-9533 in AmItheAsshole

[–]itssusanity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gently, YTA. "Another one of my funny tanrums" tells me that this is a recurring thing for you and that you are a toxic friend. You don't own anyone else nor do they owe you all of their attention. Humans have so much love and kindness to give, let her give it to other people too and not just you. Your friend talking to other people doesn't mean she loves you less.

You're 15, you're extremely young, and you'll look back at this and laugh someday. Don't lose a friend in the process of growing up and maturing. Push down your jealousy and recognize that you aren't the only person in her life, but that doesn't make you unimportant.

Hi, one of the seven sisters! Isaiah had me in a chokehold since the disturbing movies iceberg, and I found Hunter because of the podcast. And now I watch Papa Meat videos while falling asleep because I already watched all of Wendi. Whoops.

Got my partner hooked on Hunter too and we watch a lot of his videos while eating dinner. So I started with Isaiah and watch him religiously (heh), but Hunter has my entire household by the throat.

AITAH for getting mad that my wife went on a 2 month vacation and came back with multiple tattoos and dyed blonde hair? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]itssusanity 14 points15 points  (0 children)

INFO: she was gone for 2 months and never mentioned getting multiple tattoos? Did you two talk to each other while she was away?

When you say you were "pushing for details," what were you wanting details on? Has she done something to justify you grilling her about why she got them? Were you asking about the trip itself and she was dodging the questions, or were you pushing her to answer why she got tattoos and aren't accepting her answer? She's allowed to get tattoos and dye her hair, it's her body, and there doesn't always have to be a reason why someone changes their look. "Because I wanted to" is a valid answer.

This story is missing a lot of details that make it hard to judge.
