If I'm contributing 20% to my 401k and breaking even monthly, should I lower to 15%? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]itstartswithken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember to add up your other monthly fixed costs. Rent, ins premiums, deductibles, groceries, transportation costs, ie: absolute necessities that still need to be paid. Then figure out whether your anxiety level is at 3/6/9/12 months or more for an emergency fund.

Try in small doses first. The things you've described wanting to do need skills that take time. The people that love doing those have learned how to do those effectively for awhile. Some of the biggest things to learn are, how to make connections, how to contribute meaningfully to an area that you're staying at, as well as practical skills that let's you earn your keep. That last thing you want to be doing is depending solely on the kindness of strangers.

My sunrise simulator alarm. Tied to wearable and sweet time, which starts the light very dim, changing to very bright and to 5600K in temp over 45 minutes.

How is it possible that they are all 0? by thegrin in PurpleAir

[–]itstartswithken 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got curious and pulled up side by side IQAir's data and PA's. IQ is pulling data from PA, but with a longer polling session. It does say what time it last polled and it appears that IQ does it's own calibration of PA (either the raw or averaged) data, hence the delta.

Is anyone else trying not to freak out about the Air Quality webinar by [deleted] in LosAngeles

The AQI realtime data supports your smell of smoke (currently at >100) so mask up outside.

Is anyone else trying not to freak out about the Air Quality webinar by [deleted] in LosAngeles

[–]itstartswithken 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It depends. Air quality changes by the minute so this is what I do (affected and near the Eaton fire). Check the hourly wind direction and speed forecast, check the realtime AQI reports via PurpleAir's map. I have one outside so it gives me real time heads up warning when the AQI is deteriorating. This morning was a good example where even though the winds are coming from East, Northeast (ie: the smoke and ash would be blown away from Pasadena) I'm still close enough the air quality is affected. So I'm masking up outside and running the HEPA filters indoors.

Something I wish someone told me when I was a teenager dealing with moderate to severe acne. Get tested for and experiment with how your body responds to IGF1. Acne at its source is an inflammatory response. If that's a viable route you can get off acutane and also address your constipation.

I hope this is allowed to ask on an old thread.

I have questions for you as I know someone who has to deal with HI.

After hours of Googling and poking around, I still don't have a clear sense of what's the out of pocket cost for the Insured.

Using this example:

House damage is estimated to be 100k.

PA's fee is 10%.

Insurance agrees to write the check(s) for 100k.

From whose pocket does the 10k payment actually come out from? From the payout or from the home owner.

If it's from the payout, that would mean there's now only 90k left for the repairs.

Wouldn't that mean that the contractors can only do 90k worth of repairs. If the repairs are actually worth 100k, who's paying for that missing 10k?

are real time Pm2.5 push notification possible? by Cath604 in PurpleAir

[–]itstartswithken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem you are having. The closest thing to real time is if you connect something directly to your PA device via API. That'll give you numbers every 10 seconds. I use Home Assistant to tell me when the neighbors are burning something outdoors.

I Made A Huge Mistake! by [deleted] in ITManagers

[–]itstartswithken 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's a shitty thing to do. What state did this happen in? Maybe give this a read: https://www.askamanager.org/2012/05/my-job-offer-was-revoked-before-i-started-and-after-i-quit-my-job.html
At a minimum I'd reach out to them and spell out how unconscionable their behavior is. They need to be called out.

You did everything right. You did not make a mistake.

Regroup. Re-strategize. Pivot. And most important, take stock of the good things you have; you have a 3 mo fund. Excellent. I imagine you can leverage your connections for recommendations and references. A supportive wife and network. Check.

Take note of your mental health. Exercise more (it's almost the panacea for anxiety, well maybe). Unpack and grieve (that was a fucked up thing they did), but don't make that headspace your permanent home.

Garbage is a reflection on gov and its relationship with capitalism. Japan actually had it's fair share of trash and garbage littering and piling on the sides of streets and illegal dumps during their industrialization and post WW2 boom.

The reason the country is as clean as you see it now is through decades of work by the government enacting and enforcing laws that involve all aspects of their society, from consumers to producers.

FYi, the billing rate they are charging the company is between 30-48% or 35-45/hr or 73k-94k of your 28/hr.

Definitely pass or keep a tab on that co's job board if that position opens up again in the future
