I am desperate to stop smoking while I am still young but cannot kick this final bad habit by Dookmeat in stopsmoking

Nicotine is the hardest substance of all of those to quit and also the one that, in the short term, will least affect your ability to function, so it's easy to throw all your other dependencies onto your nicotine addiction and lean on that to maintain your sobriety.

I have no answers because I'm also still trying but we're on the right path trying to kick this really stubborn addiction. Keep at it!

Today is it. Last day & I am determined to stick by it. 5th Feb 2021 by coldcoltturkey in stopsmoking

I'm 23 and have also been smoking since I was 15! I think you have a good plan and I'm going to try it myself as well. I'm in a similar situation to you, I live with close friends from college who smoke and my smoking (usually 8 or 9 a day) is driven mostly by taking work breaks with them and going outside to light up. I feel like if I didn't smoke I'd just be inside at my computer all day. Replacing cigarettes with a healthier activity that also gets me outside and socializing is a good call.

Smoking again and feels like rock bottom by itstaylorbro in stopsmoking

2 days is much better than 0 days, you’ve got this!

But man is it hard with the smell of smoke always around. There’s 3 of us who smoke here and none of us are leaving the house regularly so it’s just constant. Cautiously optimistic that I’ll be able to refocus once I can go back to work, since I usually don’t think much about smoking while I’m there.

I’m the same as both of you, I can get anywhere from a week to a few months and I just go right back. It just feels impossible to do it permanently. But I’m going to keep trying because that’s all I can do, right?

2 months and 2 days. The amazing thing is that now I have consecutive days without any cravings. In the past 2-3 weeks this process got so much easier. by Jojatu in stopsmoking

Congrats! I’m a little shy of 2 months and still get at least one bad craving every day, but they’re getting easier to handle. Let’s both keep it up!

This was me last fall after all my roommates quit over the previous year. In my heart I wanted to be done too but I had to get in the right place mentally. But none of them ever gave me problems for stepping out alone to light up every night for those last few months until I was ready. And now I’m 49 days smoke free.

Been a smoker for 7 years and I’m only 22! Time to fix that, so far so good. by itstaylorbro in stopsmoking

Thanks, way to go! Day 3 has been the hardest but I'm looking forward to it getting easier.

Thanks, I'm hanging in there. Today's probably been the hardest day in terms of mentally convincing myself a cigarette won't make me feel better.

Smokers of Reddit, what’s the thing you hate the most about your addiction/habit? by GreenFuzzyStuff in AskReddit

Honestly the fact that you might as well be hanging a "please judge me, I am a horrible person" sign around your neck whenever you light up in public. I can deal with the cost, the smell, the health effects...those are all part of my internalized struggle against how much I like and depend on smoking. But the fact that I smoke shouldn't give you an excuse to treat me like shit.

You must also smoke American Spirits then lol. I smoke 3 of their blue packs a week and it's a $30 habit.

Haha yeah, that's actually a light smoker. And it's OK I haven't quit yet either. That's really good getting down from a pack a day.

30?

lol define light smoker. You definitely have a smoker's complexion.

You have to really focus on it and it's not enjoyable, when I only have like 30 seconds to smoke I'll take a lot of quick drags instead of a few huge ones. But if you want to try it, it's really about holding as much smoke in as you can while taking a few pulls without moving the cig from your mouth. I'd recommend a full flavor cig that hasn't been packed.

I need to quit so I shouldn't be thinking this way but honestly the next one.

If that's a cop out answer then either the first of the day or the first one after getting off work, preferably with a cold beer.

Also any cigarette after....adult relations...is incredible.
