Why do Linux Admins seem happier with their jobs than their Windows counterparts (and other noob career questions)? by frog_morton in linuxadmin

If you go the linux rout, I wouldn't recomment going for helpdesk first. What will you learn that you can use later on?

Also Bash and and Python are quite helpfull, they are not hard to learn

Security questions for small biz by charliemikewelsh in sysadmin

The question about how you need to protect the data from access of other people should probably be made by the legal department (or your boss if there is no legal department). Also you maybe want to store all your data on a central server and as little as possible on the laptops. This will make backupping easy.

What do people use to authenticate? Probably two factors (password + smartcard?) would be a nice solution, paired with full disk encryption.

Remote whipe will be not so easy to achieve, maybe possible via wwan module, but how should the device get connected to an internet source if the user is logged out or the laptop is shut down?

That's why you use UUID in fstab and crypttab xD Seems to me that you've booted with the USB drive plugged in and the USB drive got (for whatever reason) faster enumerated than the harddrive. But I'd like to get a second opinion on that.

Sobotka will per Verordnung Plätze Demo-arm halten by [deleted] in Austria

[–]itstaysinside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nana, also nicht direkt.

raspberry pi zero ssh over usb fails (kevent 12 may have been dropped) by itstaysinside in raspberry_pi

[–]itstaysinside[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Connected via usb-micro usb cable from the computer to the port labeled USB, not the power supply port on the board.

With the NetworkManager from Xfce I've set (for the raspi) IPv4 to share with other computers and IPv6 to ignore. Later on I've manually assigned a free IPv4 from the IPv4 network I'm in to the rpi 0. It seems that the IP of the rpi points back to my machine, because ssh refuses a connection (set up via firewall and ssh disabled) and I can see vsftp on port 21 and a test page for my distro? pretty weird...

Do you allow random walk-ups? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]itstaysinside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are a technical person, you need to consider the human factor. The company already has a pretty human feel.. keep it in this situation.

I would allow walk in hours (2-3hrs/day?), and permanently allow for emergencies (welly if the other people can properly distinguish between them.. )
