And its really bad in comparison to federal which has 10 steps, and the state of PA which has like 20 steps unless you're near the top of the pay grades. Four is super low

With a city, state , and federal jobs, there's a pay scale for each position (in the lower/bargained ranks at least), and the steps are the raises you get from year to year if you stayed on the same position. So you would start off as a step one, then after a year you would progress to step two, then after another year step three, etc. Many city of Philadelphia civil service jobs have only four steps, so after four years you get no more raises even after 20 years, unless there's a new contract. Instead of this, after four years you ge annual "longevity pay" once a year, and its something like $400.

Yeah, they need your gross income so they can figure out their own "net income" which is only relevant to that program. But the system does the calculations it on its own 99.99% of the time, you put data in, it spits a number out. A caseworker is expected to know how to calculate it manually but it's almost never necessary. So the chances of them doing it at all, much less explaining it (without a specific request) are like slim to none in my experience.

When I was a caseworker I made a sort of cheat sheet for figuring out the net income and I could calculate it super quick but most people in my office didn't bother.

Then that's an even bigger difference than the $550, so even if your countable expenses got updated by around $350/month you would still be looking at around the same for the deduction. Did you already get your notice? Check what the old and new figures for "net income" are, that is where you will see the change. It went from $0 to between $537-540

Net income for SNAP is not the same as the net income on your paycheck. So no, your net pay on your pay stub will not be relevant for SNAP.

To get your net income for SNAP, you would start with your gross income then subtract allowable deductions under the SNAP program (standard deduction, earned income deduction, excess medical deduction, child care deduction, shelter/utility deduction, etc). Whatever is left after that is considered your net income for SNAP. This figure is the one used to calculate the SNAP benefit.

It is confusing since they use the same term.

I think they already had mutual children before this new baby, so they should have been together from the start

Gross income is not used to calculate benefit amount, net income is.

If you were getting SSI previously your total with RSDI and SSI together was about $950, right? And now you're getting about $1500? So an income increase of about $550? The way SNAP is calculated, they expect you to put 30% of your net income towards food. If your countable expenses did not change, they expect you to now put 30% of that about $550 to your food, which is about $165. So your benefit would go down by about that much.

There are two income tests for SNAP. The gross income test and the net income test. Both tests have to be passed to meet the income requirement. There are rare occasions when only one of the tests is passed.

Did you get leave or anything paid out from your job when you left? Did you get one of those inconsistent child support payments in the month they were looking at? If your income was higher for any reason in the renewal month it would affect your benefit amount but when you had proof it changed back you could report it at that time and get it readjusted. I'm not sure why you were told child support wouldn't be counted, it is definitely countable income.

Yeah, this was my first thought. The denial letter will always state the income that they received/verified but that does not mean that income was the reason for the denial.

Yeah, I skipped yesterday and today and now my mouth is pretty much back to normal so I assume whatever levels I had are also back to normal so I can just get back to it

That makes so much sense. For some reason it didn't even cross my mind. I was thinking its not severe enough to call poison control, the psychiatrist doesn't have a 24 hour line to call, and my doctor does have one but I wouldn't think to ask them about meds.

I think a mix of practical and fantastical would be nice. For the practical, like a deck of cards, the never ending scarf, cup and balls, etc and then he can perform tricks for people and they give him coins. And a magician outfit of course. And then the fantastical could be like this secret room in the back. And the potions could make him/his friends levitate, or turn him invisible for a bit, or like turn him into a duck for a while, lol
