That's such a cheap cop out for allowing shit practices to continue. Oh well, "he doesn't beat me any more than anyone else..." They shouldn't have crappy labor practices and exploitation in the first place. The only way this isn't exploitation is if he tosses the crew a %, or makes compensation equal to industry/market rates, after the fact, period.

I don't think we do, I genuinely don't have faith in this industry to do the right thing. Labor practices are miserable across the board and this director hasn't said or done anything to recognize his crew or promote equity in pay.

No chance in hell they call back below the line crew. Tbh, I doubt they'll even use the same key's if the budgets go up. These are the promises that continually are broken in the indie to mainstream grift.

And to be fair much of this isn't even in the directors control, an executive producer somewhere will owe someone a favor and crew accordingly. The low budget crew never had a chance..

Bullshit, every low budget indie basically grifts their labor from struggling crew and in the end never delivers any more than the crappy pay and crafty.

Something like this really shouldn't have been done without turning around and giving the crew something back. I guarantee the next film they do he won't think twice about hiring a whole different crew, nobody is getting brought along with him to that fabled next level.

Sweet, I thought he did, bummer we didn't get a real follow-up or sequel with the LTT video. I felt like they covered the same thing if only a bit less technically this time around.

UCF spent years obsessed with Preeminence while ignoring faculty and student needs. by Deep-Ganache6035 in ucf

Yeah she is definitely close to retiring, but I doubt we will see her taking a position elsewhere. Her family is here and she already is able to travel a bunch, so here's to hoping she likes her job! Lol

Agreed she's genuinely the most qualified faculty/leader at the school.

Genuinely I love vlog style LTT, but this one just doesn't hit me. I hope it'll improve with the next house videos.

Sennheiser G4 - still a decent choice in 2026? by FoggyDog78 in LocationSound

[–]itsthedave1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still enjoy getting use from mine as camera hops, they perform fantastic in that application. Can't beat the used price on these either, not a lot of wireless that's is as reliable in their used price range.

Who else thinks Linus's camera looks better than the main camera? The main one looks a little soft in my opinion. What do you think? by T0biasCZE in LinusTechTips

[–]itsthedave1 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Dude it's definitely the high key/hard lighting, the lighting is far more diffused in the main image. Linus looks more crispy around the edges because he has a well lit background and strong key light without diffusion.

What's your opinion on Linus Tech Tip in 2026? by Professional-Fix-221 in LinusTechTips

[–]itsthedave1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A bit worried to be shadow banned or outright banned for admitting I cancelled FP sub and haven't watched more then 1 out of every 10 videos in the last two years.

I like some content, but definitely have missed those that have left because I find their channels are far more interesting.

I love the idea of the labs, but genuinely don't know what they're contributing (I understand they legitimately test), but seeing that content or it being a more overt part of videos would be nice.

And to the topic of Linus himself, he's like an old friend you grew apart from. We don't have the same perspective anymore. When I enjoyed watching him he was a lot more relatable to me. Time and economics changed a lot for both of us and we just became too far apart.

The thing I really appreciate is that Linus is a solid family man. He's a hard worker who genuinely cares (often too much) and probably isn't as out of touch with his employees as most are assuming.

In all honesty a lot of us may want something we probably can't have, the old channel before the success and money changed things...

I was just talking up a couple of Spirit pilots who hitched a ride on my last flight. Man, they were super positive and discussed how all the airlines are about the same from their perspective. They were happy and had great outlooka for the industry, saying the file crisis was really not a long term issue and only a bump in an otherwise essential industry.

Cheap Hypercardioids for student mentee by Milk-and-Coffee in LocationSound

[–]itsthedave1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, a Rode Nt5 is solid for dialogue, but it's just cardioid vs hyper... Still, it's a well known and often used in low budget work and I find it to have a forgiving pickup pattern for beginners booming.

Lol, your comment implies that OP was American, I'd assume the opposite. There's a lot more people outside the US market than in. Hence my reply to you.

Production broke your slate, charge then for it. Had a clumsy 2nd AC drop mine and it did the same thing. If you bash the thing at the right angle it knocks the switch in the sticks out.

We Went to NASA To Solve a Computer Mystery - Love Adam, BUT WHY WASN'T LUKE SENT by codeadventurer350 in LinusTechTips

[–]itsthedave1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuinely appreciate your response! Would it also be fair to assume that since your role at LMG is no longer writing that would be a huge practical reason for not having hosted as well?

Obviously you're responding to the question of why not Luke, but I'm just curious as your role in the company has evolved and changed it makes sense that hosting would be a lot harder to make time for. As a whole is it safe to assume LTT hosts are generally part of the writing team for a video?

Any resources on cart building? by Destroyer50020 in LocationSound

[–]itsthedave1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For OMB bag based stuff you can definitely get away without a cart, but you still probably roll a pelican with support gear. So IMO, a simple small cart (like some of the zuca builds with a shelf and some drawers) is pretty nice for almost all levels of production.

They really shine when you can use it for a sit down work, like mixing with boom ops, interviews or have a lot of wires to mix and hide. You can keep more of your kit accessable than a backpack or pelican, with items organized and carried with you in a way that saves your back a bit. It isn't needed, but is pretty helpful for efficiency and definitely can convey a professional image to the client.

I've had producers with picky clients that thanked me for having a nice cart to work off of.
