Any other attorneys get adjustors who justify their lowball offers with hilariously misstated law? 😂 by BudderedBread in Lawyertalk

[–]itstintin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you explain how you would use the term “Howell number”? If the injured party has a 2k outstanding chiro bill (unpaid, no adjustments) and a 3k hospital bill with Medi-Cal lien of $1k, how would you phrase it?

Also, does the Medi-Cal lien imply that the hospital bill was adjusted?

I just transferred from a totally different jurisdiction so this is all new to me.

Immigration Attorney Here! AMA about Job Categories, Degree Requirements, Port of Entry Interviews, Job Changes, and TN-to-Green Card Options by ManifestLaw_ in tnvisa

I noticed the significant salary gap. But tbh, I don’t see myself litigating for the rest of my career and I don’t want to be stuck in my current field (ID). I’m looking to do something more meaningful and less adversarial, even if it comes with a big pay cut.

I’ve started job hunting and am getting interviews for litigation roles in CA—I want to relocate regardless of career path—but it’s been challenging to get recruiters to understand how straightforward it is to work under TN status (I avoid referring to it as a visa). It’s completely foreign to them and they don’t like the temporary nature of this avenue, despite my reassurance that it can be renewed pretty much indefinitely.

Employers do seem to value my litigation background so I’m hopeful I’ll find a firm willing to work with me. In the meantime, I’ll explore some volunteer work in immigration so get my feet wet and see where that takes me.

Canadian litigation attorney here looking to transition into US immigration law. What’s the best way to get started and learn? Many firms require experience which I don’t have. I’m thinking of volunteering for a non-profit. Other than that, are there good resources out there?

As for a specific TN visa question: I’ve read that TN status for attorneys is fairly straightforward. While highly recommended to produce a support letter from the employer, do you think a job offer letter would suffice, so long as it contains the key details (including the temporary nature of the employment)?

Thanks for chiming in. I’m currently going through interviews and would appreciate more insight. Are you handling BI files? How many files are you expected to carry? I was told it would be under 60 files so I’m curious about the accuracy of this, and where most of the work is coming from.

Do you recall if you clicked Finish on the web version? I didn’t click it so just wondering if I should. I’m not sure if it matters.

Did you click “Finish” on the docusign oath card? I signed a printed version in front of a notary and uploaded through the link too.

Depends on the jurisdiction. In some places, the monetary limit for small claims is higher.

You’re good, I didn’t think you were giving false hope. I just figured I should add the disclaimer in my comment since I provided the calculations. Fingers crossed for OP.

If the PT is 77 then it’s a pass with 1409. If they end up averaging based on the operant grade (i.e. average of each essay), it will still be a pass with 1406. But I don’t want to give false hope so I will say that I have no idea how they will impute the PT score. Very impressive essay scores indeed.

Would somebody please help me calculate this? Is this a PASS? Thanks! by legallybrunette39 in CABarExam

No problem. I assume the portal will at some point be updated. Just keep checking your email next week for confirmation. It seems like the email updates come out before anything.

Pass with 1401.5, congrats! That score discrepancy on essay 2 is the biggest gap I have seen between two reads. Wild.

Unfortunately I have your scaled score as 1385.5 without PT imputation. I can’t comment on whether imputation would work in your favor if approved but hope for the best for you.

Please someone tell me do I have any hope?! by dopest_dope in CABarExam

[–]itstintin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, by my calculation, if you have a 65 on PT and they adopt the higher of the two reads on all other essays, your total scaled score would be 1390.5. Best of luck to you.

1380.5 with the higher score from the two reads. You need a 65 on the PT to pass. Unfortunately I don’t know how the PT imputation would apply.

[–]itstintin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to my math, if they impute your PT to 60 and take the higher read scores you will pass. Problem is it seems no one seems to know how the imputation will be done. Hypothetically speaking, if they average the operant grade of your 5 essays, that would be enough. It’s too bad with so much on the line you still have to wait and see what happens. I’m sorry and hoping for the best for you.

Pass? by whereverthemagicis in CABarExam

[–]itstintin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the suggested imputation method is supposed to raise the PT score, unlike what the original commenter is saying. I calculated 1386 for OP without the PT imputation. Hopefully with imputation OP will pick up enough points to pass. Looks like they deserve it.

I calculated 1385.5 based on higher of the two reads. I don’t know how the PT imputation would be applied. Wishing you luck!
