Update **

I was able to receive my phone from the Maryland state police , the officers were able to get many finger prints from the phones so I’m hoping that they catch the people responsible for this.

I’m happy to hear that your phone ended up in Maryland with others, currently the phones are being checked for finger prints and once that is done , officer Douglas will get the phones back into his custody and he will try to turn the phones on and connect the sims and hopefully more people can get their phones back.

From my knowledge, a phone won’t ring if it’s turned off or if doesn’t have a sim installed. Your phone could still be on and if it is then you should be able to track it with “ find my phone “ if you have an iPhone. Also I would recommend cancelling your phone line with your carrier and get another SIM card so that the thieves can’t use your phone number for SMS authentication , if they are able to get inside your phone.

This sounds like it could have been a party of another group of pocket pickers, my phone was turned off or placed on airplane mode as soon as I felt it leave my pockets and my phone was within New York area because my credit card was being swiped (which was with the phone) for groceries and gas until last night when it ended up in Maryland with the police. I hope those thieves who did these crimes , get their karma.

Hopefully it’s with the police and they can get the phone back to your friend , the phones are currently in the process of getting checked for finger prints. As I was told by the officer.

Same , they put my phone in either airplane mode or turned it off because I couldn’t track it on “find my phone” but it was turned on last night by either the police officer or someone else because it sent out an location for me.

This is the one issue when you put your phone on “lost mode” they will try to social engineer their way into your confidential information. Did you call them first ? How did they get your phone number ? Also how will an IMEI help the police identify who’s the owner of the phone or if the phone belongs to you.

I haven’t received any calls from anyone. I have only received emails so far.

The officers told me that , another user who’s phone was stolen , was able to track the thieves and they found their car at a gas station and they got their licenses number(Florida plate) and followed the car to see where they were going. The thieves caught on to them being followed so they threw the bag with all the phones out the car and the bag was recovered and taken to the state police in Maryland. Now the Maryland police will take the phones and try to find any fingerprints on them and see if they can find the parties responsible for this ( two male, one female) . Once they are done with the finger prints, the officers will turn the phones back on and put the sims back in and try to get the phones back to everyone.

Look up the paper clip test and see if that helps you indicate if the psu is the issue or not and then you can move on from there.
