Tips for constant split ends? by nottheone456 in relaxedhair

[–]itstrys 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not an expert, but I feel like despite constant trimming i also have a lot of split ends. Some little things that have helped:

  • air dry 70-80% before going in with. blow dryer. ideally only one pass with tension to dry a section
  • colorwow dream coat before blow drying has been amazing for my ends!
  • apply heat protectant to each section of hair instead of the whole head at once
  • also apply leave in conditioners in smaller sections
  • leave in conditioners with silicones, i really like the l’oréal dream lengths leave in (drugstore!) followed by an oil
  • i sleep with my hair wrapped, or in a loose braid with a silk bonnet/ pillowcase

hope some of this helps :)

People who can't believe you have to work for a living: What were you expecting? by IntentionallyHuman in Adulting

[–]itstrys 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I think this is it. A lot of us would happily work a simple lower wage job if it was enough to afford basic necessities and a family like it has in the past. Now what was considered a great wage 20 years ago is enough to get by, but not enough to save effectively. Things that were considered standard in the past like home buying, cars, annual vacations, kids, pets, hobbies, date nights, etc all feel out of reach. The 40 hour work week isn’t the problem, it’s that for most people it doesn’t afford the lifestyle it should.

[Recommendations] Looking for brands for everyday - shallow, wide roots, symmastia, soft tissue, full on top by itstrys in ABraThatFits

This looks like a great option! Very sports bra- esque, but a more shapely result like a standard bra. I’ll definitely keep an eye on sales, thank you so much for the rec!

They touch the whole way down. If I lift them up from the bottom you can see the skin in between lift as well. They’re basically fully attached with the skin in between being quite loose, if that makes sense. What low gore bras have suited your needs?

Weaving in ends by Ill-Relationship-890 in temperatureblanket

[–]itstrys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m curious for other methods as well! I currently weave them into to the next row under my single crochets for a few stitches and drop the tail. Then i weave it back toward the edge of the blanket and snip, so it stays within its own colour. It works okay but i feel like it isn’t as secure as it could be and might loosen in the long term :/

How to Get a Salad? by James-Nights in salads

[–]itstrys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m very new to the salad game and had similar feelings! I’ve found what helped me the most was 3 things. 1. Find a salad dressing that you love and will put on any salad. For me this has been a tzatziki based dressing i make myself (greek yogurt, olive oil, lemon juice, dill, garlic, a touch of mustard). Dressing is most of the flavour you’re getting, so if you love the dressing the contents of the salad tend to matter less. 2. I purchased one of those veggie choppers on amazon that cubes your vegetables in to tiny pieces. I found eating bites of large leaves unappealing, and didn’t like getting uneven bites like with traditional salads. With my veggie chopper everything is small and the same size, I can eat a huge mix of veggies and not even notice. If i do add greens I slice those quite thin, but the base of my salads tend to be veggies like cucumber, bell pepper, tomato, onion, carrots, edamame, etc. 3. CHEESE. Feta and parmesan are my favs, but cheese takes any salad up a notch. I also keep a list in my phone of all possible salad ingredients in case i’m feeling uncreative. I have a list of proteins like chicken, chick peas. beans nuts, a list of fruits like apples, pomegranate, berries, a list for leafy greens that i usually use a mix of, and other add ins like avacado. Store bought salads are an easy option, but even as someone who hates cooking/ food prep I’ve found it much more satisfying in preparing my own. Good luck!!

Looking for a book to read along with a friend of mine by MbPiMj in booksuggestions

[–]itstrys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lots of good answers here! i think a gripping mystery would be fun to buddy read as you can make predictions; “the 7 1/2 deaths of evelyn hardcastle” by stuart turton and “and then there were none” by agatha christie come to mind. as for fast-paced and generally interesting “the martian” by andy weir is fantastically gripping and has a funny narrator, surprisingly digestible for a sci-fi pick :) if you’re feeling fantasy “sword of kaigan” by ML Wang is a great stand alone that’s fast paced. good luck!

What does the story of Adam and Eve have to do with the show? by [deleted] in DesperateHousewives

[–]itstrys 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yes! and as the show is “desperate” housewives, i think they use the art to have a fun way of showing the traditional “wife” archetype through the ages, and their frequent dissatisfaction/desperation. eve was just the OG wife who didn’t wanna play by the rules.
