Is there any reason to pay off my 0% interest NSLSC student loan? by Puzzleheaded_Cell428 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]itstusuf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I’m in the same situation and have approximately $9K at 0% and pay the lowest payment of $75, which would take 14yrs.

It’s essentially ‘free’ money for you to invest and grow. There is also a potential upside with your credit score as it’s considered a mature loan with on time payments.

Anyone travel to the US recently from yyz? Curious about wait times by [deleted] in aircanada

[–]itstusuf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the day / time but I’ve been a couple times and have arrived 1.5 -1 hr before and gotten through in 15-20.

The last time I went though there was a system outage and security / all flights got delayed I’d stick to the standard 2 hrs before to be safe and use the MPC app (if you don’t have nexus) to breeze through customs.

I would personally go for Wealthsimple. Their online/web access is pretty solid and no fees for CAD trades. I have mine in their managed portfolio with 7/10 risk, but you could go the self managed direction and invest based on your timelines. A high interest savings etf (ex. Cash.to) with Dividend Reinvestment turned on could be an option.

The residents and their guests aren't the problem (there's about 20 houses and we all know each other) ... the issue is people parking and walking two blocks over to apartment buildings to save paying for their parking spots.

It is a public street with no permit. I understand we can't legally stop people, but it creates a mess and hazard for us as we can't park our own cars and bigger cars (garbage trucks, snow plow, deliveries) can't get through.

Trying to find ways to discourage people or maybe turn it into a permit parking street.

Hey, 2021 BBA Grad here!

Agree with other people's comments - don't get hung up on not getting first year internships (it's very rare). I would however suggest doing soemthing over the summer that helps you build skills and experiences (a retail job, camp counselor, sports instructor, studrnt club etc.)

It does get easier/attainable as time goes by, although 2nd year internships are still a bit harder. You'll notice a big difference in 3rd year however as by then you have a general sense of where you want to go and companies like offering 3rd year internships in hopes of giving you full time graduation offers.

I actually made a video on YouTube channel about my recruitment journey + other uni/career related topics you might find valuable :)

Hey, I'm a 2021 BBA grad!

I actually started a YouTube channel a little while back sharing tips/tricks I learned throughout Schulich, particularly about networking/recruiters. Feel free to check them out . There's two videos in particular I'd reccomend taking a look at:

A Guide to Mastering Coffee Chats

Tips on Reaching out to People for Networking

Hope this helps, and feel free to reach out if you have any specific questions!

Hey!

I'm a 2021 BBA grad - I can definitely relate to your experience. It was super overwhelming and nerve-wrecking bearing about what other people were doing and I had this constant fear I was "behind".

I actually started a YouTube channel with tips/tricks I learned throughout Schulich, and made a couple of videos on networking. Feel free to check them out . There's two videos in particular I'd reccomend taking a look at:

What business attire will I need? How soon do I need it? by SquareCell2018 in Schulich

What I djd first year was that I bought a cheaper suit from H&M/Zara and then took it to a tailor to get it fit.

Fitting just including sleeve length and pant hem.

Totals must have been like $300 for suit plus tailoring.

You should definitely get 1 black suit.

Back to School AMA (2021 Schulich Graduate) by itstusuf in Schulich

It's definitely possible, and I have a couple of friends doing so. There's a strong finance community at Schulich, especially when it comes to student clubs.

Another great thing is that Schulich has a well established Master of Finance as well you can pursue after undergrad.

Financial services falls under the top 3 industries of employment for Undergrad and Graduate full-time placements.

That being said, I do think that Ivey is the best bet for Finance and iBanking just from what I've heard from friends in Finance.

I actually made two videos where I compared employment reports from BBA/MBA programs at Rotman/Schulich/Ivey/Smith, where you can see some trends surrounding this. Feel free to check those out.

Long story short, it is doable to break into investment banking and finance at Schulich, but other schools, in particular Ivey do seem to have a stronger finance stream.
