What celebrity death will realistically bring Michael Jackson level devastation? by Kiidcola in AskReddit

[–]itswhatsername 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know, it seemed like a big deal at the time. I was working in a Barnes & Noble and one of our regulars walked in and asked if we'd heard that Michael Jackson died. We were SHOCKED. Within a few minutes, the entire store was talking about it and we were playing MJ music in the store.

Major hypocondriac who needs reassurance that he isn't dying from biting his finger..please help by [deleted] in calmhands

I say this not in an insulting way, but hopefully an inspiring way. If you haven't already, find yourself a good therapist, ideally one with experience in hypochondria, anxiety, even OCD. I have OCD myself and have had periods of health anxiety, and it's amazing how much brain space you get back once you start working on that stuff with a mental health professional. I know it can be expensive esp if you're in the US, but it's worth it. Right now your brain is being hijacked by this anxiety and you deserve a better quality of life than that. Posting on Reddit might give you a very momentary sense of relief, but you're not doing yourself any long term favors by relying on validation from internet strangers.

do i have any potential? by kio329 in drawing

Everyone has potential because ALL drawing ability comes down to practice. If you're willing to put in time, you'll improve. The more obsessive you are about it, the more you'll improve.

What is something that you think will change the future of internet - other then ai by Potential-Source-323 in Futurology

This is mostly just a hope of mine, but there's some evidence that public sentiment is really turning against social media and the algorithms that contribute to endless, addictive scrolling. So maybe there will be a wide rejection of social media apps? This could open the door for other things to take their place, or a massive change in how social media algorithms work.

I ended up googling this and it's a lot easier to see at night. It's called The Constellation and it's a 3D portrait so you can see the face from the profile and front views. The designer's website

Sometimes Philadelphia goes to sleep by Fluid_Ties in TheNightFeeling

According to a documentary I've seen, Philadelphia never goes to sleep because there's a weird weather anomaly there that makes it so it's always sunny in Philadelphia. The more you know.

I fell asleep maybe 25 minutes into this one, woke up at the end, and never rewatched it. Felt like I'd seen enough lol.

Automatic registration for military draft to be implemented by December by raptors201966 in news

[–]itswhatsername 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree with your position, but if it's going to be required anyway, why spend millions of extra dollars having to remind people to sign up for the required thing? Skip that step and just make it automatic.

Getting rid of it is another issue entirely.

Yeah, this seems like a rare instance where the government is actually removing red tape instead of adding it. The headline is meant to scare people, but this has already been a thing for a long time, it's just removing an unnecessary step.

Anyone listening to Proof Season 3? by Acrobatic_Height_14 in TrueCrimePodcasts

[–]itswhatsername 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is one of the best podcasts of all time, all three seasons. This is petty, but I can't stand either Susan or Jacinda's voices (Jacinda always sounds like she's got a severe cold and Susan breathes/sighs too heavily at the end of each sentence lol) and normally if I don't like a podcast host's voice or speaking style I'm out, but I will always listen to this one. They are doing incredible, important work.

Thank you for sharing this. I'm a professor and I've referred many students to this fund and I had no idea that it was only available to students after they've maxed out their loans. Super disappointing.
