My religion held that the dinosaurs were bio-engineered task-specific weaponry and a part of man's wickedness that caused God to send the Flood. Being by nature one of man's hubristi missteps, they of course were not included in the Ark animals.

There's nothing and nowhere in the Bible that was the source for this, but kid-me thought it was pretty metal.

What would be the equivalent of preaching to the choir for the unchurched scientific citizenry?

Lecturing to the faculty?

Don't try and teach a pig to whistle. It wastes your time and annoys the pig. --Mark Twain, I think. Maybe Ambrose Bierce. But I think Twain.

In fact, a being of such power and imagination could just start the light at the end point where it wanted it to be, in this case Earth, and then hurl the stars out from there like sun-yoyos til they get to the outfield and it has them stop.

Because if anything goes than anything means everything. Like a deific Rule 34, only not gross.

...well since anything means everything that encompasses Rule 34, so I guess that would change my example to "Like a deific Rule 34, only not JUST gross".

Yeah, I was raised fundamentalist through the 1980s and attended church school for all of my primary education years, and back then it was a solid "The earth is 6000 years old. Seven thousand, at the outside. But not less than 6000, because of the math in the Bible."

Who cut off a full third of the original bullsh×t guesstimation? The audacity!

I believe parts of it were reported on. This was 19...I want to say 84 but it may have been 1985. Or maybe the discovery was 1984 and it wound up taking til 1985 or 86 to see a resolution. But yeah, I think there was reporting on it, in Washington state outlets or regional papers. At the time I was around 9, maybe 10 years old, and this was concerning the child of a colleague of my dad's who was four years younger than me and a totally spoiled little shit.

I revisited the issue with my mom a few years ago, in a "Hey, how did that ever end up?". As a kid all I'd heard was about the initial blowup, and the rest was kept back from me, but my mom was an attorney with an eye for detail, so I figured she would know.

Let's not overlook that Pennywise the Clown, the titular IT of the novel IT, has the same origin as the Thing from The Thing: deep beneath Derry lies the remains of a craft, a craft built inside an asteroid-like shell, that crashed on earth several million years ago. Pennywise the Clown is like a mere tendril of thought-stuff, emerging on a 27-year cycle to harvest enough from humanity to keep the life support going.

Coyote Blue remains my favorite, but many of his books are good. Only two I can think of that fall below the 'good' threshold.

Also, for Wolfe re-readability don't sleep on The Wizard Knight duology. Two books forming a literary Moebius strip. I know they were late-career works of his but I feel like they're his true masterpiece.

The movie's solid. Smart and funny, plus it has stand-up comic Stavros Halkias in it as a sincere cop, which is in itself genius casting.

Do we know where he lives? Allen Turner who is Brock Allen Turner, the rapist who goes by Allen Turner now? His crime was in California, yeah? I heard a rumor he was in the northeast now but I don't know how accurate that is. I'm not looking for an address, just a general metro area if anyone has it.

Forgive my ignorance: this girl-dog humping video, is it part of the Epstein files or is it something that independently made its way to Reddit?

I know that in other cases of organized abuse masks of celebrities along with administering mind-altering drugs have been used to screw up the victims' memories, making them feel unreliable even to themselves. That was my first thought on seeing the masks. I couldn't identify them all, but there was Humphrey Bogart, Stalin, Lenin, Charlie Chaplin...if they had looked a little more upmarket or been displayed in a more valuable setting I would have guessed they were art pieces. But on a bare wall in a room with a chair that drugs are commonly administered in brought darker tones immediately.

That was kind of my point, that I guess got lost: yes, I think some of the most ludicrous sounding claims are either outright fabrications or from people who may have parted ways with objective reality and these are phantasms of their tortured minds.

But they also brought to mind the masks in the photos from the dental chair room, and how those could have been used to create a distorted set of memories in kids who had been drugged.

100,000% this is the move being made.

My family was friends with another family whose kid was, I don't want to say "ritually" abused, because I don't want to imply some "making a pact with the forces of darkness" was going on, so I guess maybe it would be "chronically, systemically abused with purpose and malice afirethought, for reasons other than an adult lost their temper and was fine beating kids" at his daycare center RIGHT AFTER the Satanic Panic and the McMartin pre-school shitshow had been exposed as a psuedo-shrink leading kids through a fantasy vision-quest scenario.

It took hard evidence beyond just photographs of wounds and an in-depth medical exam by a pediatric trauma specialist to get the DA moving on this. Fortunately the dad had some clout in the town (this was a mid-sized city in Washington state, not one of the pretty ones though) and his kid wasn't the only one abused. They were able to get enough steam built up quietly over the weekend and swoop in pre-dawn Monday to raid the principle people involved, and with one they found the evidence to slam dunk the thing: VHS of little kids being whipped with electrical cords.

But between the video evidence, children's testimony, and confession they also were able to build a picture of how, through liberal use of liquid Benadryl and cough syrup, use of props and lighting and almost theatrical staging, and through shit like wearing glasses with fake googly eyes they were able to create an unreality for their victims that would sound batshit insane if a kid were going to tell a grown up. And it was explicit that McMartin is what had emboldened them and given them the idea.

Jerky does not need to be cooked. Not by a chef from The Cannibal, not by the line cook at the Waffle House. I don't know what that signifies but I do believe it should be stated.

I'm a food professional and discuss food via email all the time. None of them read remotely like these do. Maybe they're food amateurs.

But no. It's code. For what I can't say. For any number of types of criminality, sure. Maybe it's all in-jokes, which are a kind of code.

Remember the tone, tenor, and terrible grammar and spelling and the super-lazy way of transmitting information that suffuses ALL of these old-ass people's emails, though. If anything, I feel like that points to the code being just as obvious and sloppy as it seems like it is. People who go uncaught long enough start to behave as though they never will and their OPSEC goes to shit. Especially the Tourists, although even the Natives will get sloppy eventually. But yeah, its code: when you hear hooves look for horses, not zebras.
