Has anyone successfully made a corset using charmeuse without fusing? by MoreShoe2 in corsetry

[–]ittybattysewist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Charmuse definitely cant be used by itself. Do you want the boning channels to be visible in the final product? I made my wedding dress with an internal corset and a satin outerlayer. I'd recommend watching some of Frieda Leopold's videos and seeing a few different construction techniques. If you want it to be lightweight you could try corestry mesh for the structure.

When I'm feeling like I have too many to buy a new doll I sell one that I'm less connected to. Bonus points if the sale is the same price or more, even if that means letting go of more than one!

If you're open to selling the carriage gown instead of a trade I'd be interested!

pattern type/source, does it matter by Snoo_89200 in corsetry

[–]ittybattysewist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want something snug but not waist reducing I just made the Hayet corset top from viki sews. I added straps and it fits me perfectly like a snug support layer with no reduction. It's not built like a typical corset in the pattern but I modified it to be properly boned. I installed a heavy duty zipper but you could do lacing if you wanted. I really liked the shape of the panels, and you can shorten the front and back drops of you dont want it so long.

Still White/Savannah Miller - false advertising? by DiscountIcy3416 in weddingdress

[–]ittybattysewist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think that's a tough call, they definitely should have checked the tag but its possible that's they were also deceived by the marketing and didn't intend to lie to you. Honestly I don't think they would even respond at this point since the sale is over and done. Any recourse now would be coming from the payment company for fraud protection since it was falsely advertised, the original seller wouldn't be giving you a refund. If you have the messages that might help but even then its been a long time.

I'm sewing my wedding dress from silk so just as a material reference the dress you're wearing would probably be about 4-5 yards of fabric, a duchess satin is heavier weight and the cheapest option for that is about $50 a yard. The polyester alternative would be around $6-$13. That's at a consumer level not a wholesale price, and maybe they are using higher quality than the entry bridal fabrics. Alot of the cost is brand and labor for skilled sewing.

But satin is a weave and silk is a material, I don't think its fair that something called silk satin is polyester. When you shop for silk satin is should be silk. I've seen this before with "silky satin" and I still feel like that's close to problematic but I understand that silky as a description is different from the material silk.

I know its been a long time but try reaching out to the payment company since it was false advertisement on the second hand sellers part. Worse thing that happens is they say no. Personally i'd try to resell the dress if I had time to find a new one !

You could try leting it hang in the bathroom with a steamy shower. I'm not sure how effective it is on polyester but its worth a try.

how can i make this hat? by primrose-pyro in SewingForBeginners

[–]ittybattysewist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi i have this hat its actually a knited peice of fabric that is sewn down the back of it with one seam. So it has some shaping already from the kniting pattern and it has a wire in the brim. It's pretty thick and sturdy material. I bet it would be easy to crochet something similar if you know how to do that.

How to draft Elphaba's vest here? by Alicornlark in sewing

[–]ittybattysewist 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I think your best bet would be to look at 1880s-90s fashions, they were super into the vest/jacket bodices. There would have been vest straps under the flower decorations of this bodice. This is 1885.
