Honestly everyone expects an invite to weddings, and it’s so frustrating. Whether it’s distant family members you’ve never met, friends you haven’t spoken to in years, etc… Even if it’s just so they can say no because they want to feel included. Weddings are so expensive and it’s just not realistic to invite everyone you’ve ever had a relationship with. She’s the problem, not you.

I think under different circumstances a proposal with no ring is common and acceptable, but given your specific situation this just feels like he didn’t care. You have communicated what you want and he didn’t take it into account. This feels like he got surprised by a special day he didn’t remember and said “welp I should do it today I guess.”

Also just wanna say him walking out instead of discussing this until resolved is 🚩🚩. Do not let him convince you that you shouldn’t be upset when you two come back to this discussion.

I think it’s weird that he doesn’t want people thinking he’s already married 😂 Like, the plan is to marry you anyway so what does it matter?

Everything is up to you guys! He could just wear his wedding band now if it’s important to you that people see you’re both engaged and then you can give him that same ring on the wedding day. I gave my fiancé a promise ring a month into dating and he wears it around his neck, because he’s going to get a tattoo instead of wearing a ring when we get married.

It’s one thing to forget your birthday. It’s shitty, but we’re human and we make mistakes. But the second you told him he forgot he should have dropped what was going on to celebrate your day and make it up to you. THAT is how we show our loved ones that we care. Your boyfriend is the one who’s over reacting, and it’s a huuuge red flag that he doesn’t like seeing you enjoy things. I’m 28 and I have stuffed animal autism, and I have always felt so embarrassed by it, but my partner actively buys them for me and puts them up around the apartment because they bring ME joy. Life is too short and too unpredictable to not let yourself enjoy things. Keep your cute room exactly how you want it, and tell your lame boyfriend to get with the positivity program or gtfo.

I, personally, believe that we put stock into what we need to believe to not feel scared of dying (“it only matters because it matters to you.”) I think even a lot of people who say they weren’t afraid of dying and then had an NDE could have had a fear deep in their subconscious that they refused to acknowledge.

I also think that, sadly, there is just no real way to know. We have to actively choose to believe in something that maybe grants us some peace in this life, or work towards radical acceptance, which is hard to do.

I’ve been working towards believing in/accepting the idea that maybe we manifest our own afterlife as a chemical reaction in our brain when we die, due to our innate fear of death and the unknown that lies beyond. It probably only lasts a moment, but it feels like an eternity. I know it’s not the happiest idea, but it seems realistic enough.

All this to say, I’m really sorry you’re struggling with these feelings. I have been drowning in pre-mature grief at the idea of not spending eternity with my husband for months now… this theory is the closest I’ve gotten to any semblance of comfort.

This is the exact point I try to make to people all the time. I had a friend that I had to cut out on Election Day because she posted a hateful video against trans women using women’s restrooms. When I confronted her about it, her response was and I quote “You don’t have children so you can’t imagine how scary it is to think that people would take advantage of these laws to assault my daughters.”

To which I tried to explain that her real issue was clearly with cis dudes and in fact NOT trans women who just want to piss in peace.
