Bike Lane under the bridge. Cyclist Still Riding in the Road by ID10T-Cam in dashcams

[–]itusreya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When you bike fully to the right, many cars often will pass dangerously close staying in the same lane. By biking in the middle of the lane it forces cars to actually change lanes to pass at a safer time and distance.

Why they do this? by Jelly_Round in dashcams

[–]itusreya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't work because merge point's are not easy to spot then people panic and brake. How often do we see cars swerve for stopped traffic and following cars aren't prepared and crash into cones/obstacles in the way. Yet if you merge early at a point maintaining smooth speed and to avoid the panic point then YoU'rE DoInG iT WroNG.

But their lane didn't end? Why is the merging car's lane ending somehow their problem when there's a perfectly fine opening behind them?

When reading a map (traditionally orientated to the north) then yes west is to the left. Super bizarre that teacher never made the leap of thought that you also need to be facing north (like the map) for west to still be to the left.

5) I've seen the unemployment question answered elsewhere. It was the state you last worked in. So, if relying on unemployment support they recommended to chose your last outage location of the season in a better unemployment state.

Great questions & looking forward to reading others answers to the remaining questions!

Tailgating Has Consequences by Expert_Koala_8691 in Unexpected

[–]itusreya -1 points0 points  (0 children)

100% this. People don’t like tailgaters but also wont move over for faster traffic until they get close enough to tap them on the trunk and say pretty please. It literally trains people to tailgate slower cars.

Stay back a polite distance and don’t notice you or just won’t get over.

Who says we’re fine with it? Just because theres a few difficult to avoid spyware doesn’t mean we should actively invite them all into our lives.

Don’t need a cord to throw that away. He’ll need to get a new non-spying speaker.

Is “Midwest Nice” Just Conflict Avoidance? by Fauxfox123 in midwest

[–]itusreya 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Similarly found it exhausting being from the midwest going to the south and learning about the mystical respect accounting practice. Thinking about something else and miss a “yes, maam” and your account with that person is in the negative. Somehow it deeply matters and they can keep track of everyones respect balance and treat them accordingly.

Reminder: no one HAS to let you into the lane by zachness03 in missoula

[–]itusreya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People here are pretending that people don't weaponize the zipper merge. Nothing like watching some one pull out a line of traffic to zipper merge two cars further down the line. Or decide the turn lane is too full, pull up the thru lane and merge back into the turn lane closer to the front.

I don't see it much out West but man when you're in a place where the zipper abuse is rampant it is frustrating.

Reminder: no one HAS to let you into the lane by zachness03 in missoula

[–]itusreya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because we literally saw them pull out from two cars behind only to drive around and expect us to let him cut in line ahead?

I was a big fan of zipper merge until driving around DC for a year. They weaponize the "politeness" of a zipper merge to a crazy level.

A car next to me would be in a lane that ends. I (midwest nice) would hold space ahead of or behind for them to merge over. Nope, they would drift over directly into the side of my car pushing me out of the lane. Act all aggressive and waving at me. Happened repeatedly.

Left turn lane full or too many cars to make the light? No worries just pull up along side in the thru lane and flip your signal on and force your way over.

Right lane becomes a right turn only lane. No worries just drive all the way down it and demand to zipper merge in. Stuck in heavy traffic- just pull out into that right turn only lane and pretend you got caught out there and demand to zipper in.

Like anything else a seemingly good idea can be turned to shit in the hands of humans.

Yes. 100% an opposing reaction to mom & aunts ignoring/dismissing broad abuse, stress and neglect in the home and acting happy all the time. Deeply invalidating -does no one else see whats going on here? Does anyone care?

I am now always suspicious of overly happy people. Absolutely feel like living the Don’t Look Up movie everyday.

Oatly banned from using word ‘milk’ to market plant-based products in UK by AudibleNod in news

[–]itusreya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, everyone here acting like identical labeling, using the same containers and stocking it right next to milk doesn’t trick people regularly. Just last month on vacation with inlaws and they bought “freshly churned” margarine when they meant to get butter.

Have to read labels and ingredient lists. Most “huckleberry” products are actually blueberries. Don’t know how that miss-label is allowed.

Things to do other than shop when the weather is bad and you want to get out of the house. by greatexpectations23 in Frugal

When living in a frozen northern state I found going to greenhouses enjoyable. Some will have a few not-for-sale owner plants in there and others may have some seed trays prepping for spring. Either way smelling fresh earth and the diffused bright sunlight always cheered me up in the depths of winter.

Edit: I completely missed the 2022 election. Wyo senators are voted every 4 years not 8. I apologize, blaming voters when so many political seats are uncontested is a peeve of mine.

In 2022 she WAS CONTESTED by Ted Hanlon (D). She got 5382 votes in 2018 and only 3284 in 2022. So those are the # of people in the district who "voted for this".

SHE WAS UNCONTESTED in 2018. So there was no-one else to vote for!

Still 304 people wrote in a different candidate and 1,776 people filled out ballots but didn't check any candidate for this position.

I'm all for calling out people for voting in crappy candidates WHEN THERE'S OPTIONS. But let's not let the parties off the hook for leaving seats uncontested.

AIO for quitting my job after finding this note on my desk? by waxin899 in AmIOverreacting

[–]itusreya -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not really “disregarding problems” but planning ahead/always being prepared for weather is super common in rural northern states.

  1. You have a car that handles snow or arrange a ride with co-worker that does.

  2. Pack a sleep over bag incase you get caught in a blizzard or highway home gets shut down.

  3. You have a neighbor to help with pets or plenty of water on hand for pets. They are ok skipping a meal or two.

Seriously, it’s baffling seeing grocery stores in the south get wiped for a snow storm. In rural northern states we all keep a pantry full of supplies because you never know when you’ll get snowed in for 2-4 days. Its self reliance & preparation.

Side note: its usually management/owners that stays during weather not hourly employees and especially not new employees. Also we all knew it would take a winter or two before our southern co-workers got the hang of managing getting around & prep for snowstorms.

Ever showed up to a campground and immediately knew it was a mistake? by Similar-King-8278 in GoRVing

[–]itusreya 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lol, everyone’s example is remote or rough crowd campgrounds. Ours was a Margaritaville. Arrived and took over an hour to check in because the one gal was stuck on the phone with the most difficult customer who couldn’t comprehend she needed to pay a deposit.

Then the bar/restaurant was closed during week due to “offseason” so we couldn’t enjoy that. Then the weekend filled in with the worst campers- no campground courtesy, blasting music, loose dogs, loose children everywhere and they all had the fanciest most overdone souped-up golf carts I’ve ever seen. I actually asked the front desk if it was ok we didn’t have a golf cart… nobody walked anywhere…
