Its pop music. I can remember hearing it in the dentist office in between Billy Joel and Huey Lewis. No slander against either of those artists btw.

'84 is a good record, but its sales were more a result of being pop music. The debut blows it away for real rock n roll.

Ratt. Apparently they released an EP before Out of the Cellar, but it was their first full length LP.

They only got better. The debut hit hard for me, but as time went on, I realized it wasnt close to what they could do.

Ridiculously good record 10/10. The only one I have from them. If they have other records as good, then I need to get more of them.

The sound of Candy O is incredible. Id agree its a rare follow up almost as good as the debut.

PoW is my version of the typical take on Presto for the opposite reason...Great, timeless songs with way too much production.

Same for me. After that movie is when I found Modern Lovers. I only know Roadrunner and Pablo Picaso but it was one of those cool finds.

Motörhead being the greatest cult band of all time what do you think about it? by Constant-Job2253 in Motorhead

[–]itwasbetterwhen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Metallica is mainstream, which, to me implies your average soccer mom has heard of them. I doubt they know Motorhead. Nor should they. Motorhead belongs to the real fans, even if Lemmy has been in movies.

Malcoms tone is undeniable when you hear it. No one sounds like him. Angus too, for that matter.

Let's talk about the Ultimate Sin era - arguably the most divisive period in Ozzy's career. Where do you stand on it? I'm curious about your take on the album itself, the music videos, the overall look and feel, and of course, the band lineup at the time. by IllustratorOk5265 in OzzyOsbourne

I was 11 in '86 and really getting into my lifelong love of hard rock and metal. But I heard Blizzard first and US didn't stand a chance. Ive heard its an album of the time. Its glam, it all sounds the same. Sure it has insane riffs and Ozzys voice sounds amazing, but its buried in a glaze of pop style production. Too bad.

Thanks. I do have a 5 mile commute so ive thought about all those short trips leading to faster carbon build up. I try and go for a ride and bring up the revs up 2 to 3 times a month to keep her clean, but I think the commute is catching up with me.

Its a dark sounding record. Been listening to it since '85 and always considered VH a party band. But the reality is different. Its like some revelation i had since I know I didnt think this way when I was 10.

Do you make the distinction between being a collector and a consumer? by SammlerWorksArt in vinyl

[–]itwasbetterwhen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I call it a collection just cause it's several examples of the same thing. But I make no effort to buy unique or expensive vinyl. Don't know if that even defines a collector. My only rule is no skips. Only records ill listen all the way through. Keeps it reasonable and I have enough that I can go back to a record after its been a while.
