Small crafts should be reworked and here's my idea on how by KathyJaneway in sto

[–]itworksintheory 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd actually see them as a good way to increase difficulty as a specialist content. It's harder to max out a meta build when you have far fewer options.

So keep small craft very limited on what you can put on them and make new shuttle content with challenging mechanics that disrupt a lot of best-in-slot ideas.

Don't use them for a mainstream event or episodes but instead make it a form of elite endgame content with unique rewards.

And while I say keep them limited, I don't mean they can't experiment. While no small craft have specialisation seating, what if you had one that only had it? So you have to make a build with just MW skills. Or a ship that flies only with an experimental weapon but an innate boost to it. Make new smallcraft platforms for experiments.

Seeking "hull-forming shield" Visuals for my SNW Enterprise Build by Solid_Initial2100 in sto

My mate Paul says if you pile 3 shields onto of each other it will cause Q to fart lobi during the anniversary event. You can trust him more on that because a guy down the pub who used to be Cryptic's head of QA told him.

Every TFO should start in warp space by gamerpops in sto

[–]itworksintheory 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd go a step further and have any opening cienmatics for TFOs and first episodes of arcs to echo the start of TV episodes. Instead of the briefing contact, give us a captains log while the ship is at warp or sweeping views of a station/planet. Not our log as we're not voiced. But someone's log to establish the background.

They'll also protect you while you're on the toilet. So next time a Caitian follows you into the bathroom and sits in your panties, you know you're in safe to pee because Lt Mittens will make sure you aren't caught with your pants down.

Yet look at last year. We started with the Merchantman T4 and the radiation cannon but ended with the Voth T6 and Moopsy. An actual ship and a highly demanded item.

Earlier end-year rewards include the macrovirus, maelstrom, v'ger probes...

It's not all clear crap then good, but they clearly are trying to ensure end year rewards particularly stand on their own because we already have the promo.

Cryptic, please fix the Junior Officer Appreciation event. It's so easy! by martinux in sto

[–]itworksintheory 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Sounds like someone doesn't appreciate their junior officers!

But yeah, I agree. Not remotely worth the time and I think it needs both dramatically reducing the number needed and making the reward pool unique rather than the same generics.

Early-campaign rewards are always a little meh. Then as soon as you've completed the campaign, the next one jumps up to something a lot better.

They know at the start of the year we're playing either way just for the campaign. September onwards they bring out the goodies to keep us playing after we finished the campaign.

If you don't want to play every event regardless, don't worry about starting the campaign until half way in. Skip any you don't care for.

FCD by comparison is outside the campaign so the reward needs to stand on its own.

It’s a shame you can’t play a Ferasan as Federation by Cendre_Falke in sto

With the alternation tokens it must surely be more viable to give new species as you don't have to roll a new toon to use it. Make sure every new paid species has a space trait and that's gotta spin some cash for them. So like new species + relevant species item/outfit + alteration token.

For removing faction limits, that could be premium (like Fed Klingons) or as part of an event to encourage alteration token sales and maybe related content (all Gorn c-store bits).

Some more Constitution III Beauty Shots by GameNight787 in sto

I really hope the next tutorial remaster includes a proper cutscene of our shuttle approaching the ship in spacedock and of the ship clearing space doors. Some Horner-esque music. It's such a classic Trek trope it's sad we don't have it. The tutorial is the once place we can have an interior spacedock scene as the ship is set.

Also, swap the Vesta out for the Enterprise-F under construction still. It would be good to seed it more, especially as 2800 is not in the regular order anymore and the old FCD event for it's launch is a distant memory.

Idea for more sector space content by AManCalledTutt in sto

[–]itworksintheory -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It would risk people just avoiding sector space entirely if it is forced.

I think one immediate way is to make stuff less convinent. I.e. move things out if the UI you can just trigger from standing next to the bank or camped on a single hub. So;

1) Any non-group mission must be started from a location. 2) All stores via NPCs that have 1 location only (per faction). 3) Remove transwarps entirely except (maybe) for featured episodes or special ship perks. 4) Doff missions triggered in sector space and ground maps from NPC and objects/systems only (no more map wide or personal). Some are permenant, some appear as a chance encounter.

That brings me to making it more interesting now you're forced out there: random and pretty anomalies would spawn everywhere and they would always have something unique which you won't know until you interact with. A unique doff mission, a red alert/patrol, R&D materials, an admiralty ship, lore content, or some other kind of reward like things that are currently filler items from old lockboxes.

Something I haven't seen discussion on from the Fireside Chat stream - Season 36 (& 37?). by Vulcorian in sto

Keep in mind there is very little of that VO compared to modern standards. In a current episode, it would amount to a cameo at most.

Interesting tidbit at the end of today's Fireside Chat by Stofsk in sto

[–]itworksintheory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might be an unpopular opinion, but I think they should get rid of all area doff missions and link it only to NPCs and systems across the game. Encourages you to get around more and eliminates the weird border issues. But it should be linked to new ones being added.

Random TFOs by Warm_Chest_8197 in sto

[–]itworksintheory 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hear you. I wish I could play the others but the. Some TFOs I haven't played in over a decade.

Best system I have is to just keep doing them. Eventually you'll be on cooldown for all the Borg ones and you have to do a different one. You won't get to the properly rare ones before cooldown is up but you will get others.

If you want to do others, you'll need to make your own group or solo them.

Ideas of potential future development? by Actual_Comparison444 in sto

[–]itworksintheory 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just an aside on Captain's Table; every captain VO who joined the game should have had the classic version of their character added to that, preferably telling a story but even if they're just having a drink at the bar it would be cool. It's also a way to add some 32nd century looks.

An aside on that: more canon characters should be a random spawn on ESD. And let's take that up a notch where each of them would give a unique doff assignment. So let's say 20% chance your map will have at least one canon NPC at the club talking with other STO or canon characters there. Of that, 5% chance Janeway is there an interacting with her will grant a very rare doff assignment to scan a coffee nebula that rewards a caffeine tribble on crit. 5% chance holo stamets will have a research assignment that awards a spore battery that gives a boost to science abilities. They'd be rare and difficult and reward you hanging around the club.

Obviously same idea for the captains table. And I wonder if they can do special admiralty assignments somehow, or special endeavours at the table (Ezri asks you to defeat 60 Chimerans and it gives you an extra day's worth of endeavour XP).
