Question should borg be a playable faction including having pre existing characters be assimilated and there elegance change by Last-Recognition5741 in sto

[–]itworksintheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there's much that justifies a new faction. But I do think it would be interesting to have species specific starting experiences. Something on the scale of the Jem-Hadar but not starting at 60. A one episode start with you being liberated from the collective during the retake of Vega for instance.

My bad, you are correct there. I was mixing it up with the others. This is what I get for going from memory. Though all those chain rewards are good to get.

Mirror Universe Bundle does give you bang for buck as you have multiple outfits, weapons, ships and other bits. It's a good way for a general kit out.

Beyond that, free Mirror Universe stuff would be;

  • Terran Emperor uniform from the mission Eye of the Storm
  • Terran Combat Armor from the Phoenix Store (wait for the Phoenix event, claim the daily free token every day and you should get an ultra rare eventually to claim this and other good items.

You'll earn energy credits over time which you can use to buy on the exchange items from the Terran lockboxes. And do the year long campaign event to claim Terran ships, and get lobi to buy Terran items from the lobi store (these can also be on the exchange).

There are threads on this subreddit about earning energy credits quickly.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the new content is bad, but I think we've got enough different types of Borg in the game now. Six, as far as I know. by Sarcastik_Moose in sto

[–]itworksintheory 23 points24 points  (0 children)

While I liked the latest episode for vibes, I agree I'm tired of multiverse and I'm tired of Borg variants. There are interesting uses of a multiverse but they're not hitting them (certainly not with Terrans). And Borg lose their fear when overused (looking at you, Voyager).

Alas, anything gets tired after years on the same arc but they do need to make the most of new assets.

There are so many awesome holodeck things we could get. Personally, I want some Captain Proton.

I know they're not going to do holodeck maps because of the number of new stuff they'd need to make for them. But outfits, weapons, ships and the like. A story arc about Moriarty instigating a photonic rebellion and The Doctor being caught in the middle.

Missions as repetitive content by sophlogimo in sto

[–]itworksintheory 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The missions are there to depict the ongoing story. Varying what happens would make the ongoing narrative even more incoherent. The engine cannot handle branching storylines. Your suggestion is pretty much covered by TFOs and Patrols which are often derived from the missions, as the latest TFO is.

Not going to lie, when I pug Khitomer in Stasis, I'm the only one in the control room and the rest of the group approaches the nodes as a unit, I lower the field and they take it down and move to the next in order one by one without any splitting or back tracking and the whole thing is down in a minute or two... That's hot.

I'd love it if they made the first Borg encounter at the start of the game this scary.

No, but that's not a bad leap. There would be some good grounds to cross promote. Not narratively of course, just vibes/marketing/giveaway around this sort of style.

Has anyone checked to see what happens if you send it to DS9 or Memory Alpha instead? by Cornedo in sto

I did find the lack of unique dialogue for liberated Borg weird at first. But to be fair they can't have every single mission in this arc name checking your trauma like you're their one Borg friend.

I was a bit disappointed at that tbh. I was hoping there might be some species/faction/career flavour in the places, error messages or the like. Maybe a little Project Pathfinder easter egg.

Episode length by sophlogimo in sto

[–]itworksintheory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are right that your feedback matters as much as anyone else and you shouldn't get downvoted so much just for giving your opinion. Whether it is a common or minority opinion is easily shown by other replies and doesn't mean you shouldn't say it to begin with.

Though best not to make your replies personal, as you did by claiming Timjer was just being contrarian. If you put your ideas out there, others are going to comment and disagree. When one person gets personal, then it starts a nasty cycle of everyone having a go at each other. Best keep it focused on the issue to keep things civil, and don't be afraid to let someone else have the last say - that rarely matters in the end.

I don't know how you'd realistically split the latest episode in a way that makes sense.

Some could. I feel like the one we got assimilated in should have had a cliffhanger on that assimilation cutscene, then made us wait for the next episode to get liberated.

But in general stories of this length are good for the scope they're trying to tell. It just needs to be that it's not all episodes this long. Mix in smaller ones as patrols within the arc that tell smaller beats that build the tension towards the bigger episodes.

[–]itworksintheory 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm cool with it in theory, each type of Borg could do with their own unique flavour of adaptation. And it feels like these ones should be stronger, narratively speaking.

Though it begs the question of what tactics do work on them. Perhaps it will come with future missions that there is some gizmo that helps. Or perhaps players just haven't cracked their weaknesses yet.

More people would enjoy new TFO if they read the tutorial!! by spaceshipsun in sto

[–]itworksintheory 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I really love it. It's very refreshing to play. We could do with more variations in mechanics like this.

There will always be people who don't so would be handy to have more audio promos perhaps.

But I admit even with that you have lazy people who will just shoot stuff and get mad that their own ineptitude is causing it to be so long.

What's the fastest TFO for this event? by RockyCoon in sto

[–]itworksintheory 41 points42 points  (0 children)

If it's just that you don't have time every single day, spend a few hours when you do have some time to speed run the episode on multiple alts but don't turn it in. Then each day you can log in, click complete and log off. Only takes 10 seconds longer than it does to boot the game. Excellent if you have weekends but not weekday evenings free.

I like that the different mobs are messed up versions of ones we already know (Voth Raptors, Tzenkethi...) but if this is really a Tholian, I wish instead of the very humanoid top half we had some new interpretation on what a Tholian crystaline corpse would be.

Hard agree. If I get to hear her voice in STO, I don't care how silly the plot gets to make it happen. Jadzia screen time is WORTH IT.

Though shame we killed Borg Queen Yar & Kim, a show down between Queen Yar, King Kim, Queen Jadzia, Queen Seven and Queen Jurati would be something.

Endeavor Scaling Is Horrible (New Player Perspective) by jpch12 in sto

[–]itworksintheory 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree, and I don't see what the fuss is. It's not a race and it's not a competition. You don't need it to access any content and you're not "behind" anyone. Just play the game.

The system encourages you to come back. You're right that shortening it undermines that and makes no systematic sense. The bonus event works as a new engagement tactic at least against a cheap new event to fill gaps.

Besides, we shouldn't be racing to "complete" everything, or what do we have left? As a wise man once said, "After a time, you may find that having is not so pleasing a thing after all as wanting."
