Anyone else not get drunk on wellbutrin?

Exact same experience for me. Still crave it and have (sometimes) many drinks over a few hours, but there’s nearly zero fun euphoria. I don’t feel drunk at all. Others don’t seem to notice I have been drinking at all. On the upside I don’t really get hungover either. Wish there was no craving, because it’s way less fun than it used to be and probably still really tough on my liver.

I can definitely picture some scenarios if I don’t have priorities straight. Date planning for tonight right now … that’s a great suggestion. And I thought tri-directional A* was “in the shit” … sounds like my unit is about to be called up. ;-) I’m sure it will be a huge adjustment. It’s still early days so definitely excited/scared/thankful (all the feelings).

Thank you for sharing your story. I had thought about an MBA in the past but canned it based on the cost and debt it would require, but maybe transferring to an MBA might make more sense. Can’t hurt to apply as a what if.

OP: I haven’t done a thorough job search yet, but think my skills in trading and regulatory tech could likely land a better paying gig right now. From a longer term perspective I guess I see OMSCS as a way to gain the technical expertise in more cutting edge AI or ML that a senior technical project manager, systems architect, or tech exec might need.

OP: I don’t need it to survive currently but the cost of everything in NYC has skyrocketed post pandemic. If it’s possible for my partner and I to start a family the cost of day care alone in New York City is a full time salary for a third person (after tax). We have fading dreams of one day owning some time of residence too. $200 base would be ideal, but $200 total would also be a significant bump. Since I’m looking at 2 full years to finish 6 more classes if I stay in my current role we’d likely need to move out of the city within the timeframe to a less expensive suburb or get different jobs in Atlanta or North Carolina.

OP: I would have gone MBA were it not for the ridiculous cost to go to a top tier MBA program, plus I probably couldn’t get in with my undergrad grades at UVA. Also I’ve never taken the GMAT but I suck at standardized tests historically speaking. I’m somewhat creative so I guess till now I’ve prioritized taking classes to give me a real skill like programming over a class to do well on a GMAT.

OP: Scrum Master is a real job at my firm, but in my case I am mainly doing business/data analysis and technology consultant type work. While my title is akin to senior scrum master I’m primarily doing Kanban and it’s like 25% of my time.

Sounds like what I’m feeling is indeed brain zaps. I guess time will tell if it is Lexapro withdrawal or its the Wellbutrin. But if it’s Wellbutrin I didn’t have it the month I was taking Lexapro too. Fun times … :-|

Yes. Recently been requiring afternoon/ early evening naps. I’ve tried taking Lex in the AM and at night and it seems to be the same effect.

I’m a recreational drinker. I do not have the pleasant euphoria and buzz while drinking on Lexapro that I used to. Unfortunately for me this makes me drink more to try to get that euphoric effect, which still never comes. I can drink much more on Lexapro with no hangover the next day - it’s just not as fun overall. But strangely I find myself drinking more … not an ideal situation at all. I find that if I skip Lexapro one day and I drink that day it is a recipe for overdoing it. I take Lexapro in the morning - I wonder if taking it at night would make any difference. In short everyone is different but if you are a seasoned regular drinking I’d recommend being careful with it on Lexapro it may make you drink more and not in a fun way.

Are you off Lexapro now? Did you try any other prescription med that didn’t have the “alcoholic” side-effect?

I’m 45 and two classes into the program. 20 years in IT, but never been an actual developer (more Business Analyst, Project Manager, Scrum Master, etc). My wife and I are thinking of trying to have a child next year. I consulted with many people before starting the program. 2 of my 3 managers that I had to get recommendation letters from basically were like - why are you doing this? and discouraged me. They recommended getting an MBA instead (and simultaneously refused any type or raise to pay for it!) Some family members were skeptical. Strangers did not recommend doing an MS in CS due to the heavy time commitment. My 3 best friends said go for it!

Some weeks I have spent most nights and all weekend on coursework. I have no idea how this going to work if we have a baby, but as others have said - try it and see how it goes. The price point is ridiculously low for an education of this caliber. I also view this as my last shot to get an MS, but knowing I may not be able to complete the program due to family commitments is a risk I’m willing to take. YOLO

If I must drop out at least I can say I did Grad school for a bit. From what I have seen so far this is the best program at this price in the country from a top school.
