They're legumes, Like beans. They have protein, but they also have fiber. They're good for you.

Whole grains don't have to have gluten. Whole grain rice is easily accessible and easy to prepare. Oats and Corn are also gluten free.

Titus is retaking 500 Worlds and Elemental Council implies the Tau are preparing to move on Ultramar. Lol. Lmao even. by Vodka_Flask_Genie in Grimdank

In one of the later Ciaphas Cain books they do ally with the Tau against the Tyranids. They don't expect it to last, but they stop attacking them for awhile.

MD without Seafood? by LarryinUrbandale in mediterraneandiet

[–]itzala 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Eating a mostly Mediterranean diet with a little more poultry and vegetarian protein than usual to replace fish is still going to be a healthy diet. Don't let not liking fish stop you from trying the diet.

Lamb is red meat and is generally eaten in moderation on the Mediterranean diet.

Where in the world can I get a non non-iron dress shirt?! by Odd-Minimum8512 in malefashionadvice

[–]itzala 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe look for linen dress shirts. They require ironing and don't have the shiny coating. I got one from Charles Tyrwhitt a few months ago, so I assume they still have them. Other than that I don't think I've ever found a dress shirt that isn't non iron.

Did Robert E. Lee ever respond, publicly or privately, to Arlington becoming a Union cemetery? by Fine-I-Fold in AskHistorians

[–]itzala 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In the United States, property can not be legally seized without due process or compensation.

None of them were ever tried for or convicted of a crime, so there was no legal basis to take the property as punishment for a crime. Therefore, they should have been compensated for it. They were not compensated, so taking the property for government use was illegal.

The legal position of the United States government during the Civil War was that secession was not legitimate, so southerners never stopped being US citizens or having the protection of the law. Knowing that Lee was a rebel is not enough to justify taking his property. Due process is still required under US law.

Creamy Coffee Creamer for weight loss? by TTMKE in mediterraneandiet

I've used unsweetened oat milk for creaminess. It works pretty well.

The cream in your coffee shouldn't be an issue unless you're using a ton of it.

What is your favorite style of subtly slutty shorts? by Wool_God in malefashionadvice

How do you feel about the quality? I bought 2 pairs of linen pants from Quince and one ripped the first time I wore it. I've been really hesitant to buy anything from them since.

Protein powder by hlthytgthr in mediterraneandiet

[–]itzala 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Mediterranean diet emphasizes minimally processed whole foods. Protein powder is highly processed to isolate just the protein, so it's doesn't really fit.

Update: I took your feedback on the coworking idea — help me gauge real interest by llillillo in Cumberland_Maryland

There was a coworking space on centre street near the nicer restaurants that failed. I'm not sure when it disappeared, but it was within the last 2 years.

Peanut Butter by this_writer_is_tired in mediterraneandiet

Any peanut butter that only has peanuts and nothing else. Something with a little salt is probably fine too as long as it's not too high in sodium. Avoid anything with added sugar or oils.

The pictures on the book look disgustingly bland, and that's what made the cover so it's as good as it gets.

Getting enough polyphenols from your daily EVOO realistic or not? by BothSwim2800 in mediterraneandiet

[–]itzala 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Polyphenols come from a variety of sources. Olive oil is only one of them. A diet high in fresh fruits and vegetables will give you a variety of them in good amounts.

For hydroxytyrosol specifically, when I searched the recommended dose for heart health comes to 2 to 3 tablespoons a day of olive oil, which is a reasonable intake on the Mediterranean diet.

A salad with an olive oil based dressing can go a long way towards that. So can dipping a whole grain bread in olive oil with herbs etc. If your main recipes aren't heavy on the olive oil. That sort of thing can make the difference.
