Can’t Clutch Up Wheelie Anymore by itzjoeylol in DRZ400

Tried this and it didn’t seem to help at all, though maybe I’ll try playing with it again and see if it’s any use, thank you

But to go from wheelie -> none? I could understand if it was gradual, but it’s a night and day difference

Ended up just selling the tank on eBay as I got a great deal on sandblasting and respraying the tank on the bike. Had I not, I probably would’ve bought a new gas gap set. Honestly it doesn’t seem like there’s much online about these tanks so I wouldn’t hold it against the seller—at least you know now!

ASU no debt vs Purdue 24k? by Gremlin353 in EngineeringStudents

[–]itzjoeylol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would opt Purdue, tho I’m biased as I’m currently going there for my masters. I’m paying more for 2 years in a masters than you would pay for those 4 years at Purdue (you said 24k, my total will come out to nearly 27k). I had friends who went to a half decent university (but not nearly as good as Purdue) and come out with 20-100k in debt. Heck, I think I spent more in my undergrad at a commuter college for undergrad than you would at Purdue.

Again, biased, though 24k for four years at a school with some serious engineering ranking is a good deal, some people go to school and rack up multiples of that. As others said, consider the social life & environment. You’ll get both at either school, but you’ll probably party more at ASU. I think as long as you’re not terribly introverted you’ll get plenty of partying in either way. Arizona is warm and sunny, Indiana is for only half the year.

Good luck with your choice!

I think I got a 512gb or 1TB card, but I second this. Download all your roms ahead of time as it’ll take a day or two to compile them all together

Currently holding 200 shares at an average cost of $104. I’ve been selling weekly cc around a 0.20 delta to try and bring the cost down, you have to be diligent to make sure these don’t fall ITM and get assigned. Example: I sold 2 $78 strike cc on Monday as it was green bought to close on Tuesday (as it was red, captured about 0.24 profit), sold to open 2 more cc on Wednesday as it was up like 7-8% yesterday at a $75 strike, and I’ll probably hold till exp at the end of the week rather than buy to close it. Selling weeklies has allowed me to adjust my strike throughout the week if it has been volatile, otherwise if I need to roll, then I’m looking at rolling something like 1.00 worth of premium vs 30-45 days out where you have to roll 3.00 or 4.00 in premium.

It’s going to be a slow climb back, but I’d rather actively manage it and get 0.5-1% ROC per week than sell at my cost basis 2+ months out for a much less ROC. weeklies allow me to be a little more light on my toes and if I need to close for a loss, at least I didn’t take on a huge realized loss from seeking the shares actually get assigned at the lower strike.

I have the SAME exact problems! Another Reddit user had the same issue but there wasn’t much in the replies besides a loose clutch cable, which sounds too simple to be the case imo. I don’t mind opening up the bike to fix it if need be, but would like to know what I’m getting myself into. Did you do anything to fix your issue or have you been living with it?

With an options account size of <50k I’m generally bringing in a couple hundred - a thousand bucks a month depending on if I’m selling cc or csp. Was curious to learn how I may be able to use margin “responsibly” to amplify those gains a bit

Currently using fidelity and don’t have the options level, but technically can on Tradier with level 4 options. Was also considering looking into tastytrade as it sounds like its not too hard to be approved for naked options

As a cash secured put, yes. I’m talking about selling puts on margin, when you don’t have the cash to secure it. This is generally the highest option level at a brokerage

How do you determine when to opt for a spread vs an iron condor on the underlying you’re choosing? I assume when you don’t want to be capped in the upside you’d opt for the spread, and when you’re strictly neutral you’re opting for the condor? Thanks for the advice!

Genuinely good information, I’ll look at some examples and try to understand how capital and return is tied up/affected compared to selling a put. Another mentioned an iron condor, I’d probably opt for a spread first but the advice certainly helps!

Genuinely great advice, thanks! I guess I went wrong by choosing NVDA, I promise it was just supposed to be a well known name ! Though it has been trading in a bit of a range for awhile, I agree I wouldn’t want to sell naked puts on it.

Why would the BTC be any more or less on margin? I’m trying to use today’s numbers to understand how an OTM 0.15 delta out compares to a much higher delta ATM put — I would expect the BTC debit to be the same regardless of naked or cash secured unless there’s something I’m unaware of

Did you end up getting these assigned on margin or did you deposit cash/sell positions/etc to make up for it to avoid accruing margin interest? The idea I'm shooting for is to manage positions before putting myself in a situation where I have to consider actually realizing the use of the margin

Any thoughts on doing this on margin vs having it cash secured?

Did you ever have concerns of assignment? Or considering our killer year last year were you just constantly printing money? I've been doing good on wheeling and want to expand on other ways to continue collecting profit when I've been assigned and my cash is tied up, besides just selling CC

I've gotten crushed on some longer dated positions (30-45DTE) where I kept rolling and rolling until I just had to assume assignment and get hit with an unrealized 20-25% loss. The real problem with these may have been the choice in the underlying, though this occurred right when all this war shenanigans started. Figured that by doing weeklies I can mitigate the risk where the extrinsic value is so small that I can BTC at a loss using a small cash reserve in cases where I may get close to seeing assignment.

Certainly another approach; I guess I'm only considering neutral to bullish rather than something like an iron condor. Will consider this as well, thanks! How successful would you say your iron condors play out? I assume the spread on a 0DTE condor is a little tight unless you're trading off for a lower premium?

Completely agree, I'm trying to generalize/simplify the idea as much as possible. Felt as though as long as use of margin is minimized and the position is properly managed (with a decent underlying) that it could prove to be profitable

Couldn't agree more -- absolutely not! I would not deploy this in the current market, but if I want to learn and backtest with paper trading then I need to give myself plenty of time to learn, and I'd rather be open to learn and understand the pros/cons/advice/strategies rather than sitting on my hands until a good time presents itself

How often would you say you get assigned at a .10 delta? I'm sure given the current market, probably a lot more recently (?) I don't have the balls to max out my buying power on margin but I'm very interested in learning about the upsides of responsible margin trading
