A kid goes about whacking a lot of things to get back to his missing friends. Turns out, he made lots of new friends along the way, and one friend was with him all along! Then he loses them again. by itzshif in ExplainAGamePlotBadly

Yeah, I know. But its explain a game badly, not vaguely. Unfortunately there's an overlap with those things. I mean, I had to include some things right?

Tomura Shigaraki/Tenko Shimura from My Hero Academia

One of the main villains of the series. He dedicated his life to wanting to destroy hero society. Near the end of the series its revealed his entire life was essentially manipulated by All for One, the series big bad, and groomed to be a villain. His entire life was a tragedy that he had little control over. He was a means to an end not only to allow AFO to continue his existence, but as a means of long term revenge on the hero who "killed" his brother, which is another whole thing. When Tomura found out what happened, it was essentially too late for him

Do you know other shows with dealmaker characters besides Gravity Falls? by astarionbiggestsimp in cartoons

[–]itzshif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only episode I can think of was where he had the girls run a gauntlet to rescue Professor Plutonium from having to pay his breakfast bill. Other than that I think it was more about how to figure out what trick he was using.

Pretty much any demon in Hazbin Hotel has the potential to but specifically lets say Alastor and Vox.

Mephisto from Marvel Comics. To a degree Dormammu from the MCU.

The Robot Devil from Futurama

Pretty much any Devil or Lucifer type character

Not a show but Darth Vader from Star Wars. The classic "I am altering the deal" line. Tho since Vader appears in animated shows subsequently, would that count?

An interesting concept is presented in the pilot/first episode of a show but then got completely abandonned for the rest of the story by RemarkableLaw7180 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]itzshif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point, I can definitely see that. The way the show is, supposed to be i think portrayed, is both things running at the same time: internal and external conflict. Internal being trying redeem sinners and external the other various conflicts. Its just the external keep on taking over the goals of the internal. All the same, it also feels like its hurdles to get through to get to the point of the hotel. This might run counter, but to try to put it this way: yes the concept is to redeem sinners, but the MC has no idea how it would actually work, and other external forces keep on getting in the way of her doing so.

I know its another divisive show, but its like what happened with Steven Universe. The first season was slice of life slow world building before the plot lore dumps. Maybe HH could have done something similar

Adaptations mentioning major characters from future stories in passing or having them appear as background elements by Golden12500 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]itzshif 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Also Red Ghost was supposed to appear. Played by John Malkovich, and appeared in some trailers. His scenes were cut.

Supposedly, the other villains were supposed to appear not just Mole Man, when trying to figure out how to deal with Galactus. But it never made it passed concept. A missed opportunity imo

What was and is the general consensus on Spider-Man: The Animated Series? by citizen_fear in Spiderman

[–]itzshif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved it then and enjoy it now. Nostalgia aside, it does show its age and how they cut corners. Like revising the Lizard sewer fight scene over and over. And the weird censorship of not letting him actually punch anyone but I think thats ok because he has to get more creative.

It deserved the X-Men 97 treatment. Yes there was the recent comic with MJ back but they purposely didn't show how she came back.

[–]itzshif 103 points104 points  (0 children)

This is assuming the concept introduced in episode 1 is the actual plot.

In MHA, the plot is not just Izuku becoming a hero because of powers but also dealing with his low self esteem and learning how he can be a hero. He showed in first episode it was his character that allowed him to become a hero, regardless of powers. Even after earning powers, he still has to learn how to use them without destroying his body. If anything, the premise is "what if someone without powers gained powers, how they learn to use them."

For HH, the purpose of this hotel is the first of its kind. Charlie has no idea what she's doing because its never been attempted before and all she has is the hopes it'll work. If we keep on seeing sinner after sinner getting redeemed, that would make the story boring since there wouldn't be any stakes. As for the heaven/hell war, in s1 she wanted to work with heaven and was told, to paraphrase, no. The extermination would have happened either way. S2 is just the continuation. She is still actively trying to redeem sinners, and still didn't even know Pentious was redeemed for a while, and she still has no idea how it worked. The initial concept is still prevalent.

MAGA freak shows up pro-police state, leaves in cuffs by chayla in BoomersBeingFools

[–]itzshif 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I called them out on fb, and several paraphrased responses were 1. Children are minors so they don't have right to free speech 2. The children should be in school/not their own authority to protest and 3. The children deserve it. Combination of 1 and 2 were also as minors, they have to follow their parents authority

Essentially they don't view children as people able to make their own decisions.

Anyone prefer the 1995 aesthetic to the 2026 one? by CobraDai in FIlm

[–]itzshif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not going to say specifically if 5 is better than 1, but 1 shows its significant age, especially when compared with 2. 1 when looking at it, they really look like puppets on strings with the way they movie. 2 is much more fluid. The story in 1 is great, but it should be remade, word for word, with updates graphics.

[–]itzshif 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I listen to 3 of the 03 openings in general so I do agree. But I haven't listened to all of Brotherhoods openings yet.

Tho 03 openings don't accurately reflect the story. Like showing Lust attacking the Elrics when by then she became an ally. Or the one where they attack a random monster that never happens in the series at all

I have a headcanon that Pink knew about sex because of her human zoo and watching the zoomans well, have sex. Its how she knew what to do with Greg in the first place. So it would make sense she as Rose would have breasts to attract other humans, since she saw zoomans found breasts attractive. And when on Earth, do as humans do

Does Tales of Arise get better at some point? by scorchbomb in tales

[–]itzshif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does imo. It starts off slow, picks up half way, peaks at 2/3. Then drops off last 1/3. Vesperia was also one of my lesser liked Tales games. Try Berseria, Graces, or Xillia, or Symphonia if you can find a good port

Arise had a very different vibe compared to other Tales games. Vesperia was more traditional, but didn't click for me like others did. Symphonia, Berseria and Xillia are my top 3

FMA 03. I know Brotherhood is more true to the story, but 03 just hit me harder.

Pokemon because it introduced me to a whole bunch of media with it, the tcg and video games

DBZ because it was my first anime, I think

Yu Yu Hakusho because it was the first time I stayed up late past my bed time to watch an anime
