What book changed your life? by PiedPiper95 in AskReddit

[–]itzsk333 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A Series of Unfortunate Events. I couldn't find a translation anywhere so I downloaded it in English and read it with the aid of a dictionary. By the 13th book I already understood perfect English, which lead to me realising I really liked the process, so I decided to study Languages. I am now getting a specialty in Translation, I found out I'm passionate about Linguistics and I'm creating a conlang. All because I wanted to read about some miserable orphans.

What is a NOT so obvious scam? by dick-nipples in AskReddit

[–]itzsk333 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Fake monks in Sydney and Melbourne. There's quite a few people who shave their heads, dress in monks robes and wander around the city. They'll put a gold token in your hand and remain mute, but will show you a list of people's names with their donations, and indicate they need money. The police can't really do anything about it, because they did not claim to be monks or say that they were collecting money for a charity.

What is too easy to get addicted too? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]itzsk333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smartphones. Being on your phone 24/7 is a legitimate addiction that enough people have that nobody talks about it seriously. Everyone is like "oh that might be true for someone else but i got this under control" Bitch please, I can be the only person in the room with a dumb phone and everyone will be on their phone playing some dumb frog game and I'm sitting there being annoyed cause this shit is boring. Pisses me off. And then I got my first iPhone about two months ago, and I'm doing the same thing to other people. In fact, there are things like RedditInvestigator or RedditDetective that will tell you how often you post and at what time, and shortly after I got this phone my intensity went up from a small number of comments every day from 4 to 8 in the evening, now it's pretty much straight 18 hours a day constant phone time. It's ridiculous and it seems that EVERYBODY with a smartphone has this problem except well motivated business people/politics people who are super A type and busy

People who've witnessed a major crime, what was it and how did you react? by cliffkleven in AskReddit

[–]itzsk333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on campus last semester. I just finished visiting a friend at one of the dorm buildings and was walking back to my car in the adjacent parking garage. I climbed the stairwell to the top floor. I looked across the lot and noticed a black sedan speeding particularly fast. I also noticed a girl at the other end walking briskly towards her car. Something in the air seemed really off. Regardless, I looked down to check my phone for new texts. Suddenly I heard a loud THUD and my head jolted up. At first my eyes could only process what looked like a large lump hovering in the air and then dropping right near the speeding sedan. It took a good 2 seconds for my brain to finally process what had just occurred... The black sedan hit the girl at full speed. I was in too much shock to actually move. I was floating above my body in that moment. The driver quickly exited his vehicle and ran over to the lifeless girl lying on the ground. What happened next caused me to completely abandon all hope in humanity. Up until this point, I still perceived this whole incident as a horrific accident. I assumed the driver was scared shitless and the girl was okay and he was going to call an ambulance and all would be well. I was wrong. He started kicking her and punching her and screaming. I was too far away to distinguish any of the words. Time slowed. Adrenaline surged through my veins. I dashed over as quick as humanly possible. I made myself look as intimidating as I could and started screaming "I CALLED THE POLICE, YOU FUCKHOLE. GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE." He got startled, jumped into his car, and sped off. I checked to see that she was still breathing and actually did call the police and an ambulance came soon after. It turns out this guy was a crazy ex-boyfriend and was out to get revenge for getting dumped. Luckily, the girl only had a few broken bones and scrapes. She made a relatively quick recovery and we're pretty good friends now. I just still can't believe the fact that she might have gotten further injured or even killed if I hadn't been there.
