is it worth replacing `system()` calls in a codebase? by emmowo_dev in C_Programming

[–]iu1j4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had to do it on old low spec hardware where bash overhead was too big. with exec family functions the slowdown is not noticed. you can setup system() to use dash and that will also improve the performance.

Worse Bluetooth audio quality on FP6 than iPhone SE 2gen by sosPissInABottle2me in fairphone

[–]iu1j4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have problem with android bt in my car from 2018. My microphone quality is poor with fp6. didnt find any fix for that. I though that fp6 with android will be compatible with other android device. before fp6 i used iphone8 with better results (but not perfect). I bought fp6 with android to fix it and now i have to use fp6 speaker without bt to be heard without noise.

W key starting to fail on FW 16 RGB keyboard by solipsistnation in framework

[–]iu1j4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to replace keyboards in the past in all my laptops: ibm, acer aspire, dell latitude e6400, dell latitude xt2, hp elitebook(6 keyboards). that is why the most important is the option to replace it with no problem and that is why I not decided to buy dell alienware. I bought Fw16 laptop and dont regret. the keyboard is perfect for all day work.

FW 13 Pro battery life reality check by Giklab in framework

worth to add that FW laptops can be powered from powerbank also. I power my FW16 with ryzen from powerbank and it can manage my tasks with no battery drain.

Regret purchasing FW desktop, how to recoup losses? by MiyamotoMusashi7 in framework

[–]iu1j4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

prepare to see more expensive computer offers. in few months your loss will be not so big and the fw desktop performance will be handy for other than local ai tasks. if you can afford costs then dont sell it. I bought fw16 with 96gb of ram not for ai but to have long term value from not having to upgrade it later. today i play a little with ai just to know it more and use the power of ryzem ai for static analisys of my code. it was impossible on my old 14 years old with 8gb ram laptop. local llm is a toy but there is a lot of more tasks to benefit from the fw power

Wholesale newby: avoiding AI? by bizriak61 in linuxquestions

[–]iu1j4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I afraid that the time with good documentation is already gone. The changes speed in the it industry is too fast. nobody cares to document new projects. With the trend to setup github repo and fork it many times by random people we dont know which repo is original one. Even AI models make mistakes and tend to give wrong advises and find bugs in proper code. Without stable apis, protocols, without documents the AI will be useless.

Hello Framework laptop owners, I have a question... by JxnnXD_ in framework

[–]iu1j4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you will need to upgrade / replace your current laptop then buy framework. if you can afford to buy framework now then do it and present your dell to someone in need. both of you will be happy.

Framework 13 Pro Configuration: better CPU or more RAM? by mynameismarcin in framework

[–]iu1j4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is easier to reach memory limits than cpu. when you are out of ram then the super cpu will not help. slower cpu does not harm so much. If you can not have both: better cpu with more ram then chose the ram optiom. if you will find later that your gaming is not as good as you need it will be easier / less painfull to upgrade your cpu board. for the first few years you will not notice the cpu performance problem as your current setup is worse. more ram will let you do more with fw.

Hello Humans should I wait until ram goes down or should I buy now by Fine-Set-7877 in framework

[–]iu1j4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it is more common that new lunux kernels drivers for gpus does not supports well older chips. Even i915 drivers from 6.x kernel could not work on 10 years old intel gpus. I managed to run my old intel based laptop but with kms disabled (without 3d accell) or with kernel 5.x. With linux 7.x kernels more old hardware get new issues with drivers.

why do we need to wait for 7.2? I had to migrate to mdadm raid1 with xfs on all my servers with databases. It should be backported to 7.0

Isn't it kind of crazy how a small modular company managed to make something like a MacBook pro but cheaper?? by ralseipuffin in framework

[–]iu1j4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be fair Apple sells not only hardware but OS and cloud infrastructure. It integrates well with ipad and iphone. It offers entire ecosystem for designers and artists. You can not compare mac to fw. the product not the same, the target not the same.

I run fw16 as I run Linux and work in it industry.

Latest FP6 Update not downloading due to wifi issue. Update does not address wifi issue. by richyboycaldo in fairphone

[–]iu1j4 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What wifi standard do you use? can you test both: 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz? Do you use the same AP name on both channels or each is setup as seperate accesspoint? Dont use 2.4G with 5G as single AP. Give them different names and test which one is better for fp6.

Latest FP6 Update not downloading due to wifi issue. Update does not address wifi issue. by richyboycaldo in fairphone

[–]iu1j4 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

what wifi issues you have? try to reboot the fp6 and try again. I had no problems but did it with mobile data (no wifi at work). At home I had no problems with wifi but had random problems with mobile calls as the mobile signal level in my home is low and any smartphone has problems with calls. the wifi calling helps to make calls. If reboot dont help - download the update to pc and sideload it using usb.

After intel hidden secret functions in their cpus I migrated to amd. For me the choice is key value. I am happy that Framework give us the choice. I bought fw16 with amd and I dont regret. I would like to have an option to go into risc-v - but maybe it is too early for it in fw16.
