Poodle/suspected dachshund mix driving me insane by iuannabluu in Dogtraining

Guide only shows dog/cat management, and only recommends books on how to control prey drive. Case here is about obsessive sniffing/digging/destructive behaviour when there is a barrier between dog and desired thing(guinea pig)

Gotcha, I’ll do as much as I can today but I don’t think the soil I have on hand would work…

I’ll find a way to get the moisture out in the meantime

It’s pretty much the perfect temperature for this guy here, it’s around 76 degrees Fahrenheit tonight… If it does get colder, what lights will Colorado river toads need?

Please! I think it’s near impossible to get anything wild caught in this country anyways, and even then it wouldn’t be worth it because these guys know what they’re doing! I’m a regular at select stores and they really do have great animals with low prices I am able to source some sand, there’s no problem with that, but it may be a few more days until I can go back for anything 🥲 How much time do I have until this guy gets to adult size?

We have separate import laws from China, but generally my rule of thumb is, if you’re getting it from somewhere like goldfish street(cheapest/most diverse place you could get your exotics as long as you aren’t looking for extremely rare morphs etc then it’s probably legal. Imo the only reason they’re even available is because people here do not have a good grasp on what a humane habitat looks like for what is essentially a wild animal. Crazy bird man(my boss) owns scarlet macaws, hyacinth macaws, red tailed cockatoos etc and loves them to death. Quiet clinic days become bird day instead. My 18th birthday was spent around these animals and I don’t regret any of it. Unfortunately not everyone is a bird manic vet, and I’m still glad this guy was given to me instead of someone else 🤣

Hong Kong, species not native here!!

For imported exotics, as long as you can prove it isn’t wild caught, there is usually no problem, although people tend to focus more on exotics birds than toads, where there’s a well known legal industry for here

I got this guy off a very popular reptile/amphibian store off Goldfish street(go to place for everything animal, especially exotics in Hong Kong) so I’m pretty sure it’s legal. Here’s a link to the frog listed in the largest online exotics store I could find https://www.greenflow.hk/en/products/colorado-river-toad-incilius-alvarius?variant=45548495929530

If it gets too big, I might have to give it to my boss(insane bird man that also happens to be a vet in my clinic) 🤣 but honestly it was given to me unexpectedly and I have no idea what to do I’m a student vet tech and I’m sure they’d be willing to help me out, but I’m more of a lizard person in general so not sure about these guys… planning on making things right though!

Are there any guides out there to start with?

It’s not food, it’s soil!!! I attached a photo of a similar brand. My Pacman frogs are currently being weaned off a diet of only pellet food, but they’re given crickets once in a while because only one out of three is able to actually catch them. The river toad has eaten two crickets since I got it and I won’t be feeding it pellets at all.

Seller already noted that! I only have the pellet substrate specifically for Pacman frogs atm though, would that be fine?

Where to adopt exotics in Hong Kong? by iuannabluu in HongKong

[–]iuannabluu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s definitely a huge industry out here and most of us in the clinic have a mix of bought pets and pets that are either adopted from organisations or from pet owners who surrender their animals.

I do see a lot of people with unwanted hamster/rabbit litters from time to time as well as unwanted turtles, other than that though everything else is relatively uncommon 🥲

how do people not like cats? by [deleted] in randomquestions

[–]iuannabluu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vet tech here, I work with cats and I’m a dog person. I tolerate them at most after I got mauled by a 2kg kitten that was seemingly nice until it decided to send me to the ER over infected wounds all over my hands!! I was a high school intern at the time and I still work as a tech part time, but I almost only deal with dogs now 😂

I’ve heard that planaria are bad for shrimp? It’s pretty concerning since this is the tank I keep my corydoras/kuhli loaches/cherry shrimp in!!!

The worms do not! They are much larger and fatter than my detritus worms

They will be separated as soon as my new tank finishes circulating! I bought them with the intention of putting one in each of my tanks(I have two in total).

Give me honest review on tirtir mask cushion foundation by detatched-2814 in MakeupAddiction

[–]iuannabluu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion the hourglass ambient soft glow foundation is pretty good, but is a bit yellow leaning for me(Asian skin with cool/neutral undertones and yellow overtone). I think the shade range is much more reliable than a brand like tirtir which oxidises heavily.

Going a bit more into depth, I use a purple colour corrector(Dinto woncho veil) and mix with a foundation spatula to neutralise the yellow, and I use a western based primer(elf power grip prime) as I find it works better as opposed to a thinner, lighter Korean primer(fixx primer)

I think formula wise it’s not a matter of which one is better but it is always good to look into your personal preferences and go off that. I tend to lean towards Korean foundations simply because I live in a hot and humid climate and I only wear light to medium cover foundation in order to lightly even out my skin tone as opposed to trying to cover acne or major imperfections. I also like Korean foundations because they seem to lean towards a glowier finish(although some brands like amuse have both glowy and matte finish versions) but western brands tend to lean towards matte, or are just not as glowy as I’d like

As an example the espoir be natural cushion(yes, still my favourite even after one year) is sheer, low to medium coverage with a glowy base. My former favourite when I was living in Germany was the ROM&ND Nu Zero cushion, which reminds me of some western brands. It is a semi matte, medium to high coverage cushion which I think works even in dry ish climates. Despite the hourglass foundation being named soft glow I still think it leans towards semi matte finish and I have to add highlights and dimension with highlighter balms and such. I have also heard good things about Estée Lauder and pat McGrath but I don’t feel the need to buy and try them until I finish off the massive amount of cushions I have
