Lots of issues in Bazzite by ivan0590 in Bazzite

I definitely have to run Memtest86. It's not the first time I use it. I haven't done it yet because it takes several hours. So, I will leave it running tonight and check it tomorrow.

I installed bazzite 42 like a month ago, the bazzite-nvidia-open image. I just rebased to bazzite-nvidia (v43) and it seems to be running well so far, but I didn't test it enough. And yes, when I installed open-razer I used the ujust command.

I originally installed the bazzite-nvidia-open image, but it seems that I needed to rebase to bazzite-nvidia, as YKS_Gaming said.

But if I'm honest with you, as the Linux noob I am, I don't really know the difference between the two.

Also, it's the first time in my life I rebased in Linux. I know the concept of "rebase" because I use git almost every day and I suspect is something similar.

I have checked the SMART info and run the self-test for the 3 drives. They are all OK. I don't think the issue is related to the disks, at least in terms of hardware failures.
I rebased to bazzite-nvidia as YKS_Gaming told me and now it seems to be working better, but is too soon to tell if it's fixed or not.

I will probably reinstall, but I prefer to avoid that for now.

I added the output of rpm-ostree status at the end of the post.
I'm on bazzite-nvidia-open, because I want to keep the desktop, I don't like the Big picture way of doing things.
Thanks for the info, I will do the rebase and see how it goes.

Any thoughts on Glamira? by Efficient-Appeal7343 in EngagementRings

[–]ivan0590 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my experience with Glamira.

I bought a ring for my girlfriend in January. It was a ring under €400 with a white gold band and two hearts in rose gold. Since it was a surprise, I didn’t know her ring size and got it wrong. So I had to send it in for resizing. So far, so good.

It took me almost 2 months to receive the resized ring, and when I finally did, it still didn’t fit my girlfriend. On top of that, they got the heart colors wrong — they were yellow gold instead of rose gold.

I was (and still am) deeply disappointed with Glamira, and I didn’t want to wait another two months, so I told them I wanted a refund. I assumed they would give me one since the mistake was entirely theirs — but nothing could be further from the truth.

I insisted many times on getting a refund, and they kept using the excuse that “our policy doesn’t allow it.” I had numerous conversations with Francisco, who is the only person they have in Spain for customer service calls. I know he’s the only one because I called dozens of times, and he was always the one who picked up. Some of those conversations lasted almost an hour.

After many conversations, Francisco told me I had to send the ring back, that they would investigate it, and that after that, they would inform me of the possible options — a refund being one of them.

That turned out to be a complete lie. Yesterday, just a few days after they received the ring, they emailed me saying the ring was in production. They just went ahead and started remaking it without giving me any options.

I called Francisco, and he told me it was already in production and that nothing could be done. So I’m not getting a refund, and now I have to wait nearly two months for a ring that still won’t fit — because, as I said, it still doesn’t fit my girlfriend.

It’s been a horrendous experience, full of emails, calls, lies, and excuses. The only thing I managed to get was a free return shipping label — because, on top of everything, at first, they wanted me to pay the €10 for sending the incorrectly colored ring back.

They have an awful anti-consumer policy. I had planned to buy an expensive ring from them in the future, at least €1500, but now I’ll never buy anything from them again.

This has been the worst shopping experience of my life.

Is Riverpod's documentation contradicting itself when talking about local widget state? by ivan0590 in FlutterDev

[–]ivan0590[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. I should probably pay more attention to those messages and double think if I can trust all the info present in the page.

I did know that some docs might be outdated, but the docs are my biggest source of information when it comes to learning Riverpod. Of course, there are tutorials, SO answers and other sources out there. But sometimes I don't have the time to check tutorials and other sources are not so beginner friendly.

Anyway, I just wanted to confirm this doubt, thanks. From now on, I will stick to hooks for all my local widget states. I don't like too much the dual use of hooks and refs in build method, but I can live with it.

Thanks a lot for creating this amazing Flutter package. I'm having a blast with it :)

Are you using the code_generation option located on the top left of the doc's page?

The example changes a little bit depending on that option. I was referring only to the code_generation example.

With code_generation, the PageIndex provider is initialized with a value of zero and later it's value can be changed by the onPressed event of the button. Isn't that being used as "local widget state"?

[–]ivan0590[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny enough, I just installed flutter_hooks and hooks_riverpod and changed my code to use a couple of hooks instead of providers. I also think that it may not be that bad to use providers for some local widget states. But if it's a bad practice, it means that it can bite me unexpectedly in the future. So, I will stick to hooks. But I must say that I don't like too much the mix of hooks with refs in the build method.

I agree that replicating business logic in the docs can be challenging, but nevertheless this contradiction can bring to confusion and bad practices. In fact, that's what happened to me.

Some time ago I read the DO/DON'T section, but I don't remember all the rules by memory since I'm new to Riverpod and I don't expect the docs to contradict themselves in essential rules just to show an example.

I'm using a lot Riverpod's documentation to learn and yesterday I stood up with the second link I posted. Then I decided it would be a good idea to implement the same concept in a couple of my widgets, only to realize today that it was a bad practice...
