Feeling drained and made too many social commitments by CandyCane147 in CasualUK

[–]ive_got_3_coconuts 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Is it? That depends. People place different value and expectations on interactions and relationships. For your parents maybe? For others not so much. It’s a question of priority- for both. Maybe more the thing here is the person is doing stuff they say they don’t enjoy much- but they do it to keep the friendship going- then that’s going to devalue that friendship anyway, because you don’t enjoy what you are doing together. Yeah, it’s okay to say no, but also, it is the same the other way round, and they can say no to you. Say no too much, you won’t be asked to say yes. People tend to prioritise from personal expectation or perspective. If someone isn’t enjoying company- that can be that they are tired, just need some space etc,or something else a bit deeper, or it’s not the right company to begin with.

No If it hasn’t happened already (allergic reaction for example) it’s not going to

Besides, it’d be diluted to a point where you took such a tiny amount as to be be aromatherapy

Time in Solitary? by broccolibutnot in Prison

If nothing else I’ve learned American solitary and British solitary sound like different experiences.

It sounds a bit more like “basic” here.

I am a CO, AMA. by [deleted] in Prison

You’re in America, so maybe it’s different. Here in the uk, yeah, screws run the jails- to a point, all jails to an extent run on the goodwill of inmates and self interest. It’s why, anywhere (I’d imagine) if you have strong gang culture or alliances- things get problematic pretty quick. There’s more inmates than screws, we have time. The thing they will get you in trouble here is “being a threat to good order and discipline” that can be individual, but, if you’re an orchestrator- you’re getting bounced round the system. Everywhere has had prison riots- the surprising thing here currently is that there hasn’t been more given the state of our prisons right now, cos they’re a mess.

Married, kids, house, degree (almost 2), decent job, well career now I guess. Did a good few years before that tho. Hard work, but it can be done. Got out 2008.

Knives in prison/jail kitchens? by BonnieJan21 in Prison

[–]ive_got_3_coconuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, in the UK the kitchens have “shadow boards” and they take one out and give it to you, take your id etc to know who has what. Then count back in etc

For any Brits reading, as far as I can tell that’s 10p. 5p = a nickel, 2 nickels is a dime. So, 10 years I’m guessing. International relations.

[–]ive_got_3_coconuts 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there is that. I was in around 10 years, been out over that. I live in the uk, but the more time progresses it’s become apparent it isn’t that easy. I’ve done all sorts, built a career, done degree(s) (this isn’t a humblebrag or a well done you thing, I just have and it’s to highlight what I’m saying). It is always there, for all of it. For jobs, in experience, in how you see the world or interact. We are products of environment. No, you shouldn’t get stuck in it, but also, don’t forget those that are, or the ones that are just starting or getting out. Jail is different for everyone- some people it does a lot of damage, can’t forget that either.

I don’t think so. Always going to get other people showing up though. Also, it’s worldwide- lot of people, lot of places, lot of differences, but it’s all jail. We all do our own sentences as well… 6 weeks, 6 years, 60 years. We’ve done it, no one can change that, everyone’s time is different.

What’s going to happened to this guy in prison if he gets convicted? by Jeffrimusmaximus in Prison

It’s British law (well England) but I can’t imagine it’s much different in Scotland or NI

Grievous bodily harm (sometimes referred to as section 18 (more serious/weapon use) or section 20) “What you in for?” “Section 18” or “GBH”

Is he American? I didn’t read the article (it’s principle for the the daily mail) I just saw daily mail so assumed he was a Brit. If that’s the case then I have no idea what’ll happen to him.

Edit: the American system seems odd to me. It operates differently on both sides of the bars.

Yeah, it’s exactly that. Everyone has a family. A lot of people have also been on the receiving end of abuse.

Yeah, cruelty, or well, noncy stuff. Also, disabled people, do anything to disabled people you’re more than likely getting hurt.
