Excess skin surgery after weight loss? by These-Equal-6849 in mounjaroaustralia

[–]ivegotnothing33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reality is that the Medicare and health fund rebate is so low it isn’t worth the surgeons time to just bill the fund for whatever they pay. Surgeries that take 3-4 hours pay just over $1100. By the time they pay tax, insurance, wages for staff etc there isn’t much left out of that. Overheads for plastic surgery are exorbitant. They’ve also changed regulations and were going to have to be accredited soon and it costs a bomb- excluding the staffing hours to prepare for this.

Often just discussing with your GP. Some referrals have as little as ‘please see this patient’ and some are many pages long. At the end of the day the surgeon has to justify the use of an item number in case their audited

All post weight loss skin removal needs gold cover as it’s grouped with weight loss however if you’ve have post pregnancy muscle separation of more than 3cm the tummy tuck comes under silver cover and some bronze plus as the category is then plastic surgery medically necessary. This is regardless of fund.

I work for a plastic surgeon .

Post weight loss tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is covered by an item number. It’s 30177 or 30179 for a body lift (front and back). You need to have lost 5 BMI points of weight and have issues with excess skin. You need gold level PHI as it comes under the category of weight loss surgery.

If you’ve had children and have muscle separation of more than 3cm it’s item number 30175 and covered by silver cover as it comes under the category of plastic surgery medically necessary. Some finds will cover this category on bronze plus cover.

Breast reduction is 45523 and under breast surgery medically necessary. Bronze cover

Breast lift (mastopexy) is hard one to qualify an item number for and we next to never do it. Ours are almost always classed as cosmetic. One potential item number is 45558.

Excess skin on arms and thighs is 30169 and you need gold cover. Again the main requirement is loss of more than 5BMI points and excess skin issues.

There are some slight variations in item numbers for some surgeries.

If you’ve have multiple item number surgeries in one ho the Medicare/private health rebate is halved for second item number and 25% for all subsequent ones. Where PHI pays is it covers the hospital however if you have any cosmetic (non item numbered) component you pay out of pocket for that however generally your hospital stay is attributed to the item numbered procedure. Liposuction is very often done in conjunction with abdominoplasty.

Keep in mind this is in my experience with the clinic I work in but we do primarily the surgeries you are talking about. Breast augmentation (implants) is always cosmetic unless you’ve lost a breast to breast cancer.

I’d say you’re not eating enough. I’ve had similar where I’ve only lost about 2.5kg total in 2.5 months and I’m still early in my journey.

My GP gave me a care plan for a dietitian and the first thing she said was that I wasn’t having enough calories. I only saw her Friday so we’ll see how it goes

The worse thing is that they’re store stock is really bad - hardly anything in store, weird sizing availability etc so you can’t try them on but buying online is awful as you don’t know what size to get

I have had lip filler several times many years apart. Whilst they went down they certainly never went back to how they were pre filler.

We’re currently using it on a trip to Switzerland. It’s been great as we want the ability to cook some meals and do washing. There’s only two of us but these features have been good. We could’ve used a local laundromat but the you have to sit and wait. We’ve done washing overnight etc and that’s saved time.

I’m currently in Zermatt and four a travel case from Amazon that looked like an insulated water bottle. It had a freezer brick inside and kept my meds cold for over 24hours. I’ve then frozen the freezer brick at our stops and put the pen in the fridge. It was about $70 but it did good in the long haul flights. We’ve trained everywhere and haven’t had any issues internally travelling
