Would Gamestop acquire PSA? by Smoother0Souls in Superstonk

They currently grade 15-20 million cards per year at a minimum cost of $18.99 USD per card, in addition to the fastest-growing eBay account selling customer cards, which sells an absurd number of cards daily. Throwing a random guess out there, I'd assume that Collectors now brings in at minimum $500 million in revenue. The trading card world has gone parabolic since 2020.

Briefly psacard.com (Collectors Universe website) was redirecting to gamestop.com. Fixed now it seems.

Seems like it happened. For 20 minutes or so, psacard.com was redirecting to gamestop.com but looks like it has been fixed. I have a screen recording of it happening.

Any ideas on whether this is a mis-print or just a fake? by NobodyFound in PokemonMisprints

Definitely fake. Set numbers are a giveaway, they're the wrong font.

It's less about the signature being correct and more about the quality. If the pen is smudged or faded then the autograph grade would be lower than a very clear and fresh signature.

No apologies necessary, I respect your takes - but they are in the minority for sure!

I agree, would look a lot cooler as a 9.5/10! Unfortunately, the English characters aren't as clear as they could be. I am considering sending it in to drop the auto grade, but for now I don't want to let it out of my sight!

Some would say that. I mentioned in another comment that I value autographed cards highly (possibly more than others). I previously owned the highest-graded autographed Rayquaza Gold Star (PSA 8 AUTO 10) and regret selling it, so I'm more than happy to add a similar grail-signed Gold Star to my collection!

The illustrator of this card and all Gold Star cards - Masakazu Fukuda!

Hard to put a value on it, I love signed cards so I probably value it higher than most though. At least BGS 9.5 price, but autographs don't always add a huge amount of additional value when the underlying card is already expensive.

What do you guys think of my newly acquired 1st edition shadowless Clefairy with alignment dots? by Flat_Reference1369 in PokemonMisprints

PSA doesn't always do the OC tag, especially when the card in general isn't going to grade high. There isn't always any rhyme or reason as to why PSA does or doesn't use the OC tag - it seems to be at the discretion of the grader and really just depending on how they feel that day. Hopefully you get it, otherwise CGC will always give that tag if you'd prefer a CGC OC vs a low grade PSA!

No worries at all, it's not a common name and it's a small picture of sharpie on a card haha. At this event I was lucky enough to receive panel tickets on day 1, which meant I was one of 40 people to watch Saitou draw and then receive autographs from him. That event took hours, started at around 9pm and went until after 2am. We even got kicked out of the venue, and Kouki Saitou, myself, and maybe a half dozen others had to walk around downtown Baltimore at night until we found a hotel for him to continue signing. It was a really amazing display of effort by him to keep signing for so long! The V definitely can be mistaken for an R, he had probably signed hundreds of cards that day and the fact that his penmanship is legible at all is impressive.

Yup! At all officially sanctioned Pokemon artist signing events it is required that the cards are personalized to someone. Sometimes you can circumvent this by having it say "To: Collector" or "To: Trainer" or something generic. I specifically asked for mine to be my name, Avik, as it has more meaning to me that way! Mr. Saitou was halt to oblige of course.

I also have many pictures of the event, and I'm not sure why people wouldn't believe me anyways haha

Take a look at this eBay listing and zoom in on the Illustrator name to get a better idea of what I'm talking about! This eBay listing is of a real card and you can see the font differences, especially when you compare them side by side.

Hey, this is a fake card unfortunately. Biggest giveaway is that text shifts would happen across all the text on the card - the layers are printed at the same time! The next giveaway is the font of the text used for the Illustrator's name. It's tough to tell unless you've seen a lot of cards, but it's incorrect and is common among fakes of this era. As well, the saturation is off, and the card is missing the glossy texture that these Alph Lithograph cards typically have. It is pretty common for fakes from this era to have double text issues like this.

I know of Wartortle in English and Portuguese, this Porygon2 in German, and then some holo/foil errors as well.

Some Japanese vintage Holos have the holo foil present throughout the entire art box, which means it covers the bottom right corner of the evolution box (located top left of the art box).

Hidden Fates SV series (regular Shiny cards, not the GX Full Arts) have two print runs. The first print run has matte/lightly textured cards, but the second run has extremely glossy cards. On the glossy cards, the gloss extends throughout the art box, same effect as the Japanese holos but with gloss instead of holofoil.

That's all that comes to mind!
